Neither, put new bearings in the Cub Cadet, new belt and keep it. Save your money for more important things in the future. 4k for a new one versus renewing the old work horse for $500 is a smarter move. My opinion.
I'm a fan of JD. Whatever you decide, buy the biggest one you can afford. Always easier to have more than you need, rather than wishing you had more power.
i’m a mower mechanic and if it was me, i would go with the bigger cub. john deere is a good mower but parts are overpriced and they’re no better than a cub. having said that, they’re all made cheaper every year. hope this helps. i’m enjoying ur new channel
Good thing somebody has good luck with them. I bought one few years back I bought one. I couldn't keep deck belt on it and the engine blew up at 138 hours. Luckly it had been took to the shop enough and they honored the warranty because it was just out. They replaced the engine. But I continued to have issues with deck belts. Good luck. If I had a property like that. I would look into getting a 4x4 with front loader. Or just use old type cub cadet with cast iron axles and drive shaft. They were made to use.
I bought a John Deere Gt235 23 yrs ago that still runs great except for the mower deck finally rusted Through always kept it in the shop out of the weather.Last year I bought a John Deere 758 series that's desiel,so my vote is J.D.
I put over 2000 hours on my cub cadet. It had a Koehler engine and a hydro gear transmission. And I did the same thing. I pulled boats and trailers loaded with logs. It lasted a dozen years then I sold it and bought a ZTR.
Bought a J.D. at Lowes. Has 185 hours now and had broken down several times. New carb, 2 new mufflers, new starter and misc. other problems. Last one for me.
Bought a new JD X570 6 mos ago. Love it. My grandfather had a JD dealership back in the 70’s so for me, the JD was an emotional purchase. Love your channels. God bless you brother, from Farragut Tennessee! 😀
Keep the cub! I've not had a deere last anytime like my cub. Have a deere that's shot in my back yard now that needs to go to the scrap yard. Briggs & Stratton engine still runs, but the rest is a bunch of junk. EVERYTHING that could go wrong has gone wrong, but engine keeps running. Have an 25yr old craftsman to throw engine on and it will keep running!
YO BROTHER , YOU ASKED SO I'M GONNA GIVE MY OPINION. YOU PROBABLY WOULDN'T GET MUCH RESALE SO RUN IT TILL IT BREAKS. 4,OOO DOLLARS BUYS ALOT OF FREEZE DRIED FOOD THAT'S GOOD FOR 20 YEARS AND LIGHT TO MOVE. ❤🙏
My John Deere was junk, the carb had to be reamed out to run right. Briggs ain't what they used to be. Cub Cadet would be my choice. I only got 65 hr before the Deere started screwing up. Maybe I got a lemon, but once bitten twice shy !
My 26 hp Husqvarna is beginning its 17th year with zero issues. It is mostly just a mower on 1 acre but I have put it to the test several times. Cubs are good ones, if ya like it stick with it.
i held off of buying stuff to just focus on SHTF prepping stuff. Imagine all the prepping stuff you could buy for 4000.00 .If you can get by with the Cadet id keep it going until we start getting some good news about the future right now we are in a world of crap and getting crappier by the day.
I've got a Craftsman GT w/50" deck & 22 HP Kohler V-Twin that I bought new 22 1/2 years ago. I kept it to pull my cart, broadcast spreader, dethatcher, yard roller, etc., and got a Hustler Raptor zero turn for the mowing. I've run the old Craftsman pretty hard, but I've also changed oil & filter regularly and transaxle oil twice.
Check for parts. Are they available near you? Which is most expensive parts to replace? Of course which one will suit your needs. I know you know all that. I just don't about either one...lol
A man I work with has been commercially mowing over 20 years. Cub Cadet. He said they constructed as well, and the Deere parts are typically more expensive. Good luck Patriot.👍
We have had a Cub Cadet since we moved here 4 years ago. It has been brilliant but we can't mow hay or bale with it. I've been scything and putting the hay into recycled big builders bags. Now we need more hay for bedding and I can't really do that much, so been thinking of a small tractor to save buying in extra bales. I call our CC Bumblebee! Sadly it won't transform, but it is a super machine even so. I enjoy whizzing around on it too! Will be eager to see what you end up choosing.
I would have your deck rebuilt and keep it another 8 years. Take the $$ you save and buy some ammo or some tools. I think with all the shortages we have had things in general are not as well made as they used to be. Take care and God bless.
MD. I am a John Deere fan myself. I have run the snot out of mine and it just keeps going and going. But if you have had great luck with your CC maybe you should stick with that brand. Good luck whichever you choose.
Love my old Cub Cadet! I last went with Husqvarna because of price and have been very disappointed. My neighbor has a Deere and is very happy so good luck.
Thanks for this new channel! Re: Choices - I guess adding up all the costs for all the attachments and the unit will probably end up as your decision maker. Common Parts Availability right now could be a concern as well? Please consider if either has a Power Take Off (PTO) as I noticed your PV Panels and think a PTO to run an External Alternator would be a great Emergency Electrical Backup Supply, especially if your winters will be cold. Could you address "comms", for your current location in a future episode? Cheers and Best Wishes! B&M
MD, John Deere is what my grandpa used and how i got my job running bases top of 5th, rainbowing outfield, and diamond cut the infield. Only girl to do it. I was in my early 30's. 🍀✝️🙏💜✌️😎👍
Hands down, JOHN DEERE. End of discussion. Buuut it's up to you, dear. Whichever works best for your needs. Good luck with your decision, MD. Take care, and God bless 🙌 🙏
DUDE MAN >> you should get a Red Rocket by Oree . Simply the best out there. 28 hp Kawasaki motor, 4 wheel drive, large grip tires, 5 year warranty bumper to bumper,
I never had a lawn until this past October. I suppose I will need a lawn mower at some point after the snow comes off. Probably just a push mower since I only have 8,000 sq feet.
I can't tell you the differences in a cub or a deere but I would probably buy the same one I already have....why???? Because, you can interchange parts if needed....God Bless!
Creek I like your new channel and Content.... I have a Diesel John Deere A little Pricey but one hell of a Lawn/Garden Tractor. I believe its an X-758.... it is 4wheel drive, my place is hilly like yours and it gets around great
I’ve got a 1990 PP2050 with a kohler magnum v twin 20 hp 6 speed manual transmission. She runs like a top too ! It’s a little bigger than yours with 5 lug rear tires. I’ve pulled my 4x8 trailer with it stacked with firewood outta the woods with it no problem. I’d go with a John Deere myself if I were in the market for a new tractor/mower.
In my opinion you should go with the club cadet once again MD simply because it been good to you man. Look at it like a really good woman MD,because if you got one that’s been good to you keep her!🧐✅
I had that cub Cadet xt2 gx54d and I hated it. With less than 40 hours on it the automatic choke failed on it and the part was back ordered it took a couple months to get it. In my opinion the fast attach blades are a joke. As soon as I got it back from the dealer I said it and bought a John Deere X580 it was considerably more expensive but I have no regrets.
Cub cadet. Grew up with one. I think it was a 1984 model. My cousin still uses it. He turned the john Deere into a go-cart and it still sets behind the garage.......
It's really comes down to the transaxel. Stay away from the K46 Tough Torque. Most others will be fine. Cub has the XT2 with a diff lock pedal that may be a good choice for homesteading. I was checking prices just last week and wow have they jumped my XT3 GS was $4000 four years ago and an XT2 was $7000 last week.
I've went through and read all the comments so far. And I've come to the conclusion most of the people who comment don't have a clue about either machine. My reply is go to a cc and jd dealer and compare for yourself for what you need for the job. Myself I went with jd x590. Because it fit my needs. And remember one thing it's your money don't let anyone else spend it for you.
I have a 2006 SLT1550 and beat the crap of the deck I have lots of quartz rock in the yard ( 1 AC) it just bubbles up and I just run it over. Also 10+ oaks and 20+ other trees. I just run those leaves over in the fall. Replaced deck spindles 1 time. 17 years old, still runs, but time to replace. IF I could get an CC XT2 w/ 50in deck I would. Better yet would take XT3.. XT3 not being made. There are no shops near me ( 40Mi radius ) 1/2 the price of a JD X300 series line. JD just down the road, never owned one but my mind is made up on JD x384 (4 wheel steer) Or X394 Power 4 wheel steer . both had Tuff Torq K58 transmissions.. I did stop by JD 2 days ago and was solidly impressed at the quality of these mower. Not so on the plastic lid.
I have a JohnDeer lt100 42 inch cut from a box store the belt want stay on 39 hrs there is no adjustment on my deck I bought a smaller belt for a MDT. Also I know JohnDeer stores have heavier duty models than mine.
I've been trying to decide as well. My zero turn and all garden and lawn equipment burned up in the fall from lightning strike. I've been debating between a bad boy and cub cadet. I read that cub cadet quality has gone down hill but I know John Deere parts are expensive. Sorry no help here.
Take out the valve stem cores and turn the stems to the up position. Fill the tires with water and antifreeze. Air the tires the rest of the way up to normal pressure. It will then pull like a mule without adding extra weight to the tractor itself, causing stress on the bearings. It's well worth it. I do all mine that way. You'll like the benefits. As far as which tractor to buy, I can't say. Both are good.
I can only speak to John deere zero turn. I've been using it as a commercial mower and it's a residential. It's held up. I've heard cub cadets are great mowers too.

You're going to be waiting a long time for that depression. And it could be a recession that isn't even noticeable until after it's over. The big box stores tractors just don't seem to be as robust as the specialty dealers.
I would rather have a 1970s Hydrostat Cub Cadet running in good shape than anything on the market today. I have quite a few Cub Cadets starting with a Oringinal then moving up in years. The new models no matter who builds can not even stand up to the old Garden Tractors/ Mowers.
I have a 2023 JD S170 and it has 15.7 hrs on it. So far cheap plastic steering wheel cracked and took weeks to get in. Now the belt to the lawn mower deck broke and I have to pay $100 for the service center to pick it up and they seem unsure if it will be covered by warranty! Less than 16 hours of cutting my flat 1/3 acre grass in the suburbs. The hood has no support to stop the wind from catching it and breaking it, just plastic junk. I was going to get a snow blower but found out the impeller is made of plastic! Are you kidding me?! The dealership said this is entry level so they’re plastic. Total junk. My neighbor has a cheap tractor with a snow blower and it has a steel impeller, so does my push snow blower. JD Is greedy and resting on their laurels and ripping us off. I thought JD was top of the line and just bought the best one they had at Lowes. I’m going to sell it this spring and look at the competition.
Cub, Creek they may make MTD, for Wally world but certainly not to the same standards. And, as was said before JD is real proud of their parts. Besides they, at least their full size tractors are made in France not USA anymore.
Ive had 2 JD riders and not the best of luck for me they always bresk right away and or the decks have cheap pulls. I have a Cub Cadet 2206 now 20hp Kohler and its better then the JD riders where for me personal.
I’m not sure which one’s the best because some say John Deere‘s not as good as it used to be. I would look to see what is most cost-effective what has the most longevity and also which has the easiest parts to obtain? Should you need to replace them. See which one if any is strictly made in the United States. Will you still have John Deere place here in Ohio. With the way the world to go on you’re gonna want to find something that’s made domestically as much as possible. Who knows how much of the parts they outsource but that would be my thinking. A lot of these riding mowers you can get parts of the auto store as well. You probably know all this, but that’s just what crosses my mind. Hope you’re doing well. Hugs.
Neither, put new bearings in the Cub Cadet, new belt and keep it. Save your money for more important things in the future. 4k for a new one versus renewing the old work horse for $500 is a smarter move. My opinion.
The one that you can most easily fix yourself if it breaks down or has issues. Good luck!
I'm a fan of JD. Whatever you decide, buy the biggest one you can afford. Always easier to have more than you need, rather than wishing you had more power.
Cub Cadet used one for years , cut 4 acres of grass every week! Excellent piece of gear!.....ATB

Just went through the same dilemma...JOHN DEERE is the only way to go in 2023.
👎 jd holds their customers hostage to “update software”
Keep the cub!
I've not had a deere last anytime like my cub.
Have a deere that's shot in my back yard now that needs to go to the scrap yard.
Briggs & Stratton engine still runs, but the rest is a bunch of junk.
EVERYTHING that could go wrong has gone wrong, but engine keeps running.

If you do decide to go with John Deere good luck finding a dealer that ain’t full of whole asses.

I don't need any more food, to be honest. No more room. I have the Preps taken care of.
My John Deere was junk, the carb had to be reamed out to run right. Briggs ain't what they used to be. Cub Cadet would be my choice. I only got 65 hr before the Deere started screwing up. Maybe I got a lemon, but once bitten twice shy !
Cub cadet is made by MTD who also makes most of the big box store mowers and lawn tractors. It all really depends on your budget.
My 26 hp Husqvarna is beginning its 17th year with zero issues. It is mostly just a mower on 1 acre but I have put it to the test several times. Cubs are good ones, if ya like it stick with it.

We’ve had both. Hubby still misses his JD. The cub we have now will not pull the hill like the JD did.
I'm a John Deere man, myself. And I remember that video. I commented that you might consider tire chains for traction on hills.
Cub half the price of a deer and very well built and reliable. Especially the Enduro xt 2 series I have the gx 54 d and I like it
Same dilemma here about mowers. I was looking at the Cub Cadet last year and so many were out of stock.
Buy a small Kubota diesel, under 25hp and be set for as long as you'll need it. They will last into the 5,000 hr range and sip fuel.
A man I work with has been commercially mowing over 20 years. Cub Cadet. He said they constructed as well, and the Deere parts are typically more expensive. Good luck Patriot.👍
Always had good luck with cheapies, but when you said what the cost was, I grabbed my heart and said, Elizabeth! I’m come’n to see ya honey
oooooh Sanford and Son reference! love it
I'D STICK WITH WHAT'S SERVED YOU WELL AND HAS PROVEN ITSELF TO BE THAT WORK HORSE. TAKE CARE.
We have had a Cub Cadet since we moved here 4 years ago. It has been brilliant but we can't mow hay or bale with it. I've been scything and putting the hay into recycled big builders bags. Check with the repair people on both of these and find out which is best..also, Google the pros and cons on both.Good luck
Love my old Cub Cadet! I last went with Husqvarna because of price and have been very disappointed. My neighbor has a Deere and is very happy so good luck.
Newer Cub cadet spindles have changed to the s style in the blades and spindles are very expensive no aftermarket

Keep it for the heavy work. Remove the deck. Get a new cub for the grass.
Creek I like your new channel and Content.... I have a Diesel John Deere A little Pricey but one hell of a Lawn/Garden Tractor. I believe its an X-758.... it is 4wheel drive, my place is hilly like yours and it gets around great
If you can find one made International Harvester I can't recommend anything more.
I think I would stick with what you know works.
I had terrible luck with a 27hp cub cadet lawn and garden mower. It was with the deck i always had problems with it. But the motor was a still good
I’ve got a 1990 PP2050 with a kohler magnum v twin 20 hp 6 speed manual transmission. She runs like a top too ! It’s a little bigger than yours with 5 lug rear tires. In my opinion you should go with the club cadet once again MD simply because it been good to you man. Look at it like a really good woman MD,because if you got one that’s been good to you keep her!🧐✅
Cub cadet, we had issues with our Deere and went back to cub cadet.
Cub for sure JD your paying for the name IMO
Either is good. Just make sure you get a locking diff.. I wish I did.
I suggest you get the one where parts are available...wouldn't go with one where you can't get parts...my opinion...
Neither. Fix the one you have and save your money.
A real man would get a herd of sheep.
Why sheep ???? are you afraid of Goats ??
I've went through and read all the comments so far. And I've come to the conclusion most of the people who comment don't have a clue about either machine. My reply is go to a cc and jd dealer and compare for yourself for what you need for the job. Myself I went with jd x590. Because it fit my needs. And remember one thing it's your money don't let anyone else spend it for you.
Gathered from Mike Adams the John Deere stuff is now impossible for you to repair: Everything is proprietary. IOW: *stay away.*
The price sounds reasonable and if you have had good luck with cub cadet I would stay with that brand an trade in your old tractor for the new one .
Stick with the Cub M.D. Hard to beat them IMO 👊
Which dealer do you feel is most reputable in your area is the one I would go with.
WTH? I know I check “all alerts” good thing I get your newsletter
I would suggest a cub cadet zforce xs60 with steering wheel it’s fun to drive and it’s like mowing with a go cart
Stick with what you know works. 👍😊
Flip a coin. Lol. That's how I make my choices.
I like JD, but if that Cub works for you I would say be a loyal return customer.🙏🙏👍👍🤠🤠🇺🇸🇺🇸
Below the JD 300 series all mowers are made by MTD
Sounds good to me 😊
I can only speak to John deere zero turn. I've been using it as a commercial mower and it's a residential. It's held up. I've heard cub cadets are great mowers too.
Absolutely John Deere over Cub Cadet. Or local TYN.
Algo boost.
So you are looking for a garden tractor, for ground engaging implements. Deere and Kubota are the best garden tractors with the best dealer network and parts availability. Please don't buy anything from the big box stores. Support your local parts and servicing dealer. You could also consider used. If you can wait, the coming depression will put many on the market along with bank and finance company repos.
You're going to be waiting a long time for that depression. And it could be a recession that isn't even noticeable until after it's over. The big box stores tractors just don't seem to be as robust as the specialty dealers.
Kubota with kawasaki engine.
Cub Cadet.
I wish i could afford one to mow my lawn with
I would rather have a 1970s Hydrostat Cub Cadet running in good shape than anything on the market today. I have quite a few Cub Cadets starting with a Oringinal then moving up in years. The new models no matter who builds can not even stand up to the old Garden Tractors/ Mowers.
John Deere is a member of ESG.
Cub
🙏
I use the Husqvarna 24 hp fast pulls good😊
Im a John Deere girl. Love my tractor
I know nothing about riding lawnmowers. Never had one. Good luck deciding!
John deer is the way to go
Brother has a j deere
I know I'm late on this but if ur getting a garden tractor john deere is hard to beat
Cub, Creek they may make MTD, for Wally world but certainly not to the same standards. And, as was said before JD is real proud of their parts. Besides they, at least their full size tractors are made in France not USA anymore.
Definitely vote Cub Cadet.
Cub Cadet or rebuild what you have
Iv got both and the cub xt2 is absolutely superior.
A lot of these riding mowers you can get parts of the auto store as well. You probably know all this, but that’s just what crosses my mind. Hope you’re doing well. Hugs.
Cub Cadet has been good to you. Why change.
