  • Should you draft an RB in Round 1? Chris (@CSimmsQB) and Ahmed (@ahmedNBC) answer that question and more as Simms reveals his top RBs for the 2023 Draft. Plus, the guys take some of your other draft questions, and an atmospheric scientist finally puts the red-orange-blue debate to a close (we really really really hope). #NFL #ChrisSimmsUnbuttoned #NFLDraft
    (0:00) Hello and welcome!
    (3:45) Power to the Sheeple: Ahmed has a theory about good RBs seem "a dime a dozen."
    (15:45) RB scouting: Chris has changed the way he looks at speed for RBs.
    (21:30) #1 RB Bijan Robinson (Texas): Is he a better RB prospect than Saquon Barkley?
    (37:30) #2 RB Jahmyr Gibbs (Alabama): Why is he in the same tier as Bijan?
    (48:20) #3 RB Roschon Johnson (Texas): "He's an NFL starter. He just got stuck behind a stud."
    (59:10) #4 RB Sean Tucker (Syracuse): "A little ball of muscle."
    (1:06:40) #5 RB Chase Brown (Illinois): "He is all about violence and twitch."
    (1:12:50) Robin Hood RBs: Kendre Miller (TCU), Zach Charbonnet (UCLA), and Devon Achane (Texas A&M) are among the honorable mentions.
    (1:26:45) CB rankings reactions: Chris addresses concerns about about Devon Witherspoon's speed and CB Emmanuel Forbes' size.

    De’Von Achane ended being one of the biggest steals of the draft (at least at the RB position). As a 3rd round pick, he put up some nice numbers despite missing a few games with injuries. Miami’s week 3 game vs Denver (203 rushing yards, 30 receiving yards, and 4 total TDs) was quite the coming out party.
    2023 stats: 11 games played (4 starts). 800 rushing yards and 8 TDs on 103 carries (7.8 yards per carry) and 27 receptions for 197 yards & 3 TDs.

    Alvin Kamara was 5'9 215 ran a 1.55 10yrd split on a 4.55 40 and had a 40inch vert. His legs are extremely explosive. Vertical is where acceleration can't be hidden. Fast 40s with low verts means they're slow in/through the hole. Alvin Kamara would hit the hole at Tennessee and be moving so fast that linebackers couldn't touch him.
    Aaron Jones had a good 10yrd and vert also. I think Jahmyr Gibbs might be overrated.
    D'andre Swift had good 10yrd and vert also.
    A lot of good NFL running backs have good 10yrd and vertical.
    Dalvin Cook was the only guy that didn't have good numbers on either, his 40 was a lot slower than his game speed so he was probably injured during the drills.

If I lined up Chase Browns' and Bijan's college projection and workout measurables right next to each other side by side without listing their names, you wouldn't be able to tell them apart. I'm not saying he'll be as good as Bijan, but just saying you can get a super productive workhorse back who has really high level elite athleticism in the 5th round. That's why I don't take RBs in the Top 50 picks. Not when you can find Isiah Pachecos running 4.37 at 215 lbs. in the 7th round.

    I think you mean he shuffles his feet more than picks them up.. Alvin Kamara sort of glides and cuts with such smoothness ..wouldn'think he'd be that good after watching his Tennessee highlights… He didn't look that impressive coming out of college but then he became a better pro… How the hell did that happen?

    I disagree with his scouting take on Emmanuel Forbes. He must’ve not seen the game that he played against Jameson Williams last year. Emmanuel Forbes has great change of direction speed and does well on scamble drills. He had no problem against Alabama this year as well. I think he’s got better hip fluidity than Chris gives him credit for. Maybe needs to watch more tape.

But I like Tony Pollard because I wanted to draft him for the Bears

    @NathanDean79 Рік тому

    Hell yea I know who Joe Morris is. New York Giants. He was my favorite RB growing up. Tajai Spears from Tulane should have been in your top 5. So should Dewayne McBride from UAB. Zach Charbonnet from UCLA too. Charbonett is better than Gibbs. I like Tucker and Brown. My top 5 would be 1. Robinson 2. Charbonett 3. Spears 4. Brown 5. Gibbs followed by Tucker and McBride. Tajai Spears is the truth. Also there is a running back from Pitt I can’t remember his name. It’s some kind of crazy name but he is phenomenal too. So many good RBs this year. There are 10-15 RBs that I would consider drafting. There is a guy from Minnesota that’s good and the RB from TCU is good and the one from Appalachian Star is good. Just tons of RBs. I’m confident the Bengals can get a starting RB in round 4 or 5 this year. Easily.

  • @Bradyisthegoat12
    @Bradyisthegoat12 Рік тому +27

    Zach Charbonnet way too low, he’s a better prospect on a per touch basis than Roschon Johnson, also much better tape. He’s my bet to be the RB2 in this class, because of his bellcow size and underrated receiving chops. Gibbs just won’t be effective enough between the tackles at the next level to support a workload sufficient of the RB2 in this class. He was the worst RB in the class on non perfectly blocked runs between the tackle. Definitely has 3rd down role appeal but isn’t gonna be the back people want him to be at the next level.

      roshon johnson doesnt have a lot of highlight tapes because he was the backup of the best back in college. watch the one from sickeditz. one of my favorite tape i watched. deuce vaughn was also another tape i really liked.

    • @Bradyisthegoat12
      @Bradyisthegoat12 Рік тому +2

      @@dodu8281 That’s why I based my assessment off per touch numbers instead of total accumulation of statistics. Roschon is definitely a solid player who is probably the best pass protection RB in this class which NFL teams really value. My issue is when Simms ranks him RB3 in the class ahead of players that have much better prospect profiles and objectively better tape all around. Really like Deuce Vaughn’s tape, one of the most skilled and explosive players in this class. Think he can be an impact special teamer and eventually evolve into someone that can take on a 3rd down role, I see him similar to Tarik Cohen where he can have an impact in multiple roles if things break right for him.

    • @SSschultzZZ
      @SSschultzZZ Рік тому

      Only based on stats or did you watch film?

    • @Bradyisthegoat12
      @Bradyisthegoat12 Рік тому

      @@SSschultzZZ It needs to be combination of film, context and stats. Film is very subjective unless it’s a player like Barkley or Chase where they clearly jump off the screen when watching. Wouldn’t be fair to a player like Roschon if I just used total year over year stats to compare him to other backs in this class because the context is he played behind Bijan. That’s why I prefer per touch, gives us a clearer picture and doesn’t punish a quality backup like Johnson. Also, there is a huge difference between watching all 22 film and watching highlights. Highlights will have Anthony Richardson looking like the best QB we’ve seen in awhile when in reality on throws of 5 yards or less he completed 58% of his passes, which shows up a lot on his film.

    Haha!! I don't agree with this list in it's majority, but how do you possibly have Roschon, Tucker and Brown over Charbonnet, Achane and Bigsby??!! I'd put Abanikanda over Simms 3, 4 and 5 as well. Chase Brown at 5 just solidified it for me that Simms can't judge running backs. Pollard??!! Brown has no wiggle and just blindly runs into guys.

      @@AP-WhatsUp kind of. We’ve got 4 out of 5 solid lineman as of now and if Jonah Williams doesn’t get his trade request which he’ll most likely be here in Cincy for one more season and can play RT along with La’el at RT for one more year. Now if a top tier RT is there at 27 then sure but I’m telling ya if Bijan falls which is a wish let’s be honest, the Bengals would run his name up to the booth. It’s most likely going be a TE if Mayer is there, OT or RB in 2nd and then mixture of Defensive players through rounds 5 but it’s just fun to hypothesize. Nothing ever goes according to “Mocks” in the Draft which makes it exciting 🐅
