I recently read in an MJ interview that prior to a concert performance before Princess Diana and Prince Charles, in a one on one conversation with the Princess, she asked MJ if he was going to sing "Dirty Diana." He replied that he had taken it out of the program out of respect for her. She expressed disappointment, telling MJ that it was her favorite song. When Prince Charles approached them, and asked what they were talking about, the Princess replied, "Oh nothing!" According to MJ, it was too late to add it back into the evening's concert, but it was a memorable exchange.
Right! I love that story. I also heard that in the next concert he made sure to add it back to the list and Princess Diana said that she would be back to watch him perform it. I don't know if it's true, but i vaguely remember reading somewhere.
I still get chills when I hear this song/watch the video. Steve Stevens is an amazing guitarist and his accompaniment with Michael Jackson is phenomenal. There will never be another Michael Jackson. R.I.P. MJ
Yes, this is an 80’s song from the Bad album! Another masterpiece with insane energy and vocals. The guitarist was Steve Stevens from Billy Idol’s band. Michael used quite a few well-known guitarists for memorable guitar solos, like for ex. Slash for ”Give In To Me” and Eddie van Halen for ”Beat It”. Glad you enjoyed it!
That's right Jay, MJ did not come to play around. He may have joked around in his home life, but he took music seriously. He made sure each concert had the work put into it.
Happy New Year, Jay! This was actually not a live performance. It was just made to look like that since the song is about groupies who hang around musicians. The amazing guitarist is Steve Stevens. Fun fact: this was Princess Diana’s favorite song by MJ
@Necramonium the official video, which this one was, was actually filmed in California. There is a slightly longer video that was filmed at Madison Square Garden, but this wasn’t it. The opening of that video has something about Pepsi presenting MJ at the beginning of it.
MJ was one of the greatest all around performers of all time. Sings. dances. Entertains. Keeps the attention of his crowd KING OF POP LIVES ON FOREVER.
I was a little kid when this song came out and so I never knew what it was about. I actually didn’t even know it was a term people use until you just said something now (I looked it up in urban dictionary after you said that lol). But I’m definitely glad you’re checking out some more MJ! Man in the Mirror was my favorite as a kid. I had it on record and would play it ALL THE TIME over and over again. You know how kids do lol
MJ got invited to play at Buckingham Palace he removed this song from the concert as respect to Princess Diana, after the concert she approached MJ and asked he didn't sing it, it was her favorite song. #RIP Princess Di and MJ 🙏
yes, though it was before the show PD.. I wanna talk to you MJ.. Yeah whats happening? PD.. Are you gonna do Dirty Dianna tonight? MJ.. No No, i took it out of the show out of respect for you PD.. But that's my favorite song! MJ.. Are you serious? I took it out of respect because of Dirty Dianna, You're in the audience. He explains at that point he couldn't put it back in the show because it was too close to showtime and then Prince Charles comes over and asks what they were talking about.. and PD replies " OH nothing" lol
Michael really had the Midas touch with these songs. Dig deeper into his slow jams such as “She’s Out of My Life”, or a duet such as “Say Say Say” with Paul McCartney. A childhood hit “Ben” theme song from the movie “Ben” (about a boy that befriends a rat lol) was one of my most favorite of his. Always got me teary as a kid❤️
”Dirty Diana” from album Bad 1988. Guitarrplayer is Steve Stevens. However, Slash from Gunsnroses was on the song ”Give into me” from album Dangerous 1991. Both song are up there next to (almost) Billie Jean, Beat it and Thriller.
MJ at his Best he couldnt be touched by anything or anyone he was a god amongst men he is probably my favorite solo artist of all time and in my opinion probably the best solo artist of all time. his songs were truly amazing.
This is one of my faves! Another one that's from the 90s is his remake of The Beatles 'Come Together' with a hard edge like Dirty Diana. It rocks pretty good! I think you'd love it! Another live performance video from the 80s which may be my favorite called 'Another Part of Me' a great sound and shows how the people at his shows went insane! Awesome concert performance and just fun to watch! Anyway...great reaction and......Happy New Year 🎉🥳🍾🥂
Bro, if you like this song you will like Give in to Me by Michal Jackson that he plays it with Slash and he is also on the music video, it's sort of like this song charged with rock, screams and guitar solos.
Seeing him at Wembley with his Bad and Dangerous tours in the late 80s/early 90s was PHENOMENAL and still one of the best times of mine and my husband. Queuing for 6 hours and running across the pitch and shouting we love you Michael 😄
The guitarist is the great Steve Stevens with his space guitar. Steve Stevens was.Billy Idol's guitarist and he can be seen in most of Billy Idol's videos. This video was in the late 1980's when Steve Stevens was considered one of the best guitarists in the world. Michael Jackson always got the very best musicians. Dirty Diana was when the King of Pop Michael Jackson goes Heavy metal.
Fun fact: Michael Jackson was in concert in England, he took this song out of the playset in respect for Princess Diana. Princes Diana told him to put it back because she loved the song and was at the concert....🤗🤗
Check out Janet Jackson's Black Cat if you haven't already. The way she performs this on stage is so uncannily matched with Michael's Dirty Diana live performance. Great reaction once again.
When Michael met Princess Diana he didn't think she liked this song, but she said it was her favorite song and to please play it at the concert he was to perform later. So he did. Awesome!!!
Great reaction to a great song. I didn't think it got enough playtime when it came out... it's a great song!!! There was a good reason he was King of Pop.

I don't care who nobody says, I'm sticking with my belief that Diana & Michael had a fling. He was devastated when she married Arne Naess because he wanted to marry her then. I've heard some get offended saying that's gross because she was like a mother to him, but she was not his mother. He was in love with her since he was a kid, but watch some of those old interviews with the two of them and they are flirting HARD & telling the other they're sexy! It will come out one day long after Diana is gone & one of her children puts it in a book of her life story. This is a great song!

Princess Diana always requested he sing this song whenever she'd go to his concert. He never wanted to sing it as he didn't want to offend her.
He had more class then her!,
And she told MJ he can perform the song
He couldn't change the set list and she was disappointed!
