People are surprised when I tell them Young, Loud and Snotty is my favorite album of all time. I wish these guys would have stuck around longer. RIP Stiv.

I first saw and heard Stiv and the band The Lords of the New Church on MTV in high school. I really liked them with their semi goth look and punk rock snear. So I began learning more about them and I found out that Stiv had once sang for The Dead Boys. Which blew my mind when I remembered a friend of mine had played me their record back in the 7th grade. Lol I wait like holy sh*t! I liked them even more after putting that together.
I've watched the doc about Stiv called ' STIV ' a bunch of times, I love the stories about all his antics , the car surfing , the prank calls, etc.....good stuff. Thanky !
I really enjoy their first record, it's personally one of my favorites of that early American punk movement. They've been kind of overshadowed over the years by other bands, but most of those bands were inspired in part by The Dead Boys anyway, so I think their impact is far wider than many people would realize.

I would suggest checking out Peter laughner’s solo stuff, it’s not on streaming services, so you have to get it on UA-cam ITS AMAZING, Peter was a really interesting and versatile songwriter, it’s tragic that he died so young

I'm of the opinion it was Aussie punk band, The Saints, but I've also heard the Pistols and even the Stooges suggested. In any case, it's a fun debate and worth a look. Cheers.
I think those bands were proto-punk. Patti was definitely not late to the actual start of punk. Patti’s Piss Factory single came out in 1974, so that beats New Rose. And most other punk songs. It’s just whether or not you call it punk.
RFTT was actually responsible for probably HALF of the Dead Boys songs, either written by Laughner or Cheetah. In fact, "Caught with the meat in your mouth" is ACTUALLY taken from "Never Gonna kill Myself Again". Go listen to it. RFTT basically generated about 5 bands, which influenced TONS of punk bands, Their stuff is heavier than the DB.s but not as lyrical.

Dead boys are playing at music venue I do sound at. Or some version of them April QXTs in Newark NJ. If it is an shure SM7b the are industry standard for broadcast. You have to gain them very high. When going into you interface io. You might experience digital noise. I can’t tell if it is a microphone that looks like one that is usb ready or any other kind. Cloud lifer is an option. Klark Tecnik makes a booster that is $30 behringer makes one too. Any gain booster wil do you well

Great video as always . One thing i will say and i dont want to spund like that guy so im sorry ahead of time.Genyas name is pronoinded "jen-ya " . I remember her having them take off their swastikas before they started recording ( rightuflly so) her being notnonly jewish but also being a drect holocaust surviver . ( much of her family was k*lled.) She herself has an impressive musical history with groups like Goldy and the ginger breads 10 wheel drive and her song" Love is a fire " being on warriors movie sound track with the Lizzies gang scene..and more. I also remember reading in Please Kill me about that fight incident and how it was a black physician that saved him .and how he marveled at that at the time because of him wearing the swastika .. .. its a ttrip alsl how Thomas formed Pere Ubu .hearing how he wanted nofhing to do with sounding like anyone else .we see that with that band .. ohio bands dont get much attention electric eeels the Styrenes are some other obscure bands poist psych pre punk type bands. But of course the most successful punk band to come out was Devo ..yeah i know people wouldn't consider them pubk now but back then all that stuff was new and edgy so it definatly was punk adjacent

Great video, but Blondie was never on Sire Records. They were on Private Stock and then Chrysalis. However, Sire did have many Punk/New Wave bands on their roster.
13:38 Uk embraced punk big time,pistols,clash,ruts,,undertones all had top 20 hits,even later on,crass ,discharge and american bands like dead kewnnedys had albums in the national charts.Punk in uk was more mainstream then grunge in the 90s
It seems like the mainstream public definitely did, but the mainstream media was a bit slower on the uptake (which is typical) and kind of forced into it by the record-buying public.
That's the difference between Cleveland and Detroit. Detroit was open to originality and embraced it. The more original you were, the better. That's why the MC5 and Stooges thrived. They both would have died in Cleveland

I am 67 years old and I still like listening to the Dead boys. I can not say that about of a lot of bands I used to like. Raw, Nasty and Fun!

The first named punk single was the Damned "New Rose", written by Brian James. 1976.

I was lucky enough to randomly befriend Johnny is the early 2000's, cool guy, my son's mom and I had fondu with Johnny and his wife on our first date.
