According to my dad, TriMet had powered some of its buses for the hills, tuning the 8V-71 Detroit Diesels up to 325 HP and of course tweaking the transmissions to handle this much power. An early 1975 TriMet promotional showed their 80 new buses, which were Flxible New Looks 100-179, as having a 325 HP Detroit Diesel 8V-71 engine.

GM had the "Classic" label as early as 1983 for their new-gen buses.

The standard axle ratio would be 5.38:1 as opposed to the hillclimbing version that would be 4.56:1.
