  • 2023 Orbea WILD QUICK TEST | The BEST eMTB I've tested
I usually think that many eMTB that I test are very similiar to each other. The new Orbea Wild is an exception.

Great review as always. After Ive put my new built xc hardtail into work on som pretty rough terrain I have a much better understanding to what bike is needed for rougher terrain. 😃👌

I am 186 tall, so good to hear that the large sized bike fits "perfectly well" for a 185 cm rider.... Just need to find one now :)

For me size L will probably be the correct sized bike, but XL could work too. It's a personal preference thing... Agility vs stability.

@Mtbs Great video. I'm currently deciding between the Orbea Wild M10 & Specialized turbo Levo carbon comp withhold like your opinion between the 2. I'm not hugely concerned with the spec/components as will likely upgrade these.

I was particularly interested in this particular video because I bought the Orbea Wild H20 two months ago after reading/ watching rave reviews / videos on UA-cam, the last bike I bought after UA-cam endorsement was the entry model Specialized Turbo Levo which I loved (2019) - got stolen!
My concern is that the Ebike brands are soliciting paid reviews of their top, most expensive models from the popular UA-cam channels, tellingly these paid reviews all come out at the same time, literally. There is a big problem with this platform - the reviews profusely embellish the super expensive bikes (some of which may be true of course), however, ordinary joe like me are much more likely to buy the entry level bikes in the hope that they ride very similar to the top models. EMTB - ordinary joe/jane - middle aged with kids, short on time, relatively new to or returned to biking, investing oversized sum to feed his/her hobby.
None of the top earning channels review the entry level bikes, nor do they actually say anything negative because of the conflict of interest. Hence, it is not clear, who is this bike for? The beginner, or the pro downhill enduro ace? We hear far too many numbers - so many millimetres or angles this and that (chain stay, BB, reach etc.) and not enough about how they ride and whether these bikes are value for money? Hence, the UA-cam channels are complicit in letting the industry get away with hastily thrown together lower end bikes that are seriously flawed, and still demand thousands of dollars/pounds/euros!
My view after 2 month ownership is a degree of disappointment. The H20 is a monster truck, way too heavy, I did not expect that given that the top product is 20.8Kg! This is a major problem for intermediate/ early biker. The sheer weight detracts from being able to jump, turn, develop skill, and the poor fork/suspension platform can only described as dull and lacklustre. The internal battery and the ridiculous complicated headset with internal cables is just nuts. Importantly, something you did not point out - this is a front heavy bike, much more noticeable in my size small bike with big 750 battery taking up the whole length of the down tube. It is difficult to convince this bike to jump (more speed, more hop) and then control the tendency of front end dipping. Why oh why do I have to spend several thousand of hard earned cash to bring it up to speed? Should I really even try to bring the weight down - not possible.
The result is that 2 months down the line, I am desperately trying to sell the bike and buy a Specialized - the market, as it is, I can't even get half price for a 2 month old bike.
I do not believe the Orbea Wild 2023 Alloy models are value for money - period. It turns out, all the R&D went in to developing the carbon race winning models. There is a unhealthy collusion between industry and channels/social platforms that promote these bikes - it makes it impossible to get an honest view of products that are more expensive than the cars we drive.

Hi! Sorry to hear about your negative experiences. I tried to get an ALU version to test too, but there was no around. Read in the comments here somewhere that the base ALU Wild was 25, almost 26 kg and that is of course a HUGE difference and not even the same bike anymore imho. Weight matters.
I still stand by the fact that the Wild M-LTD (or TEAM) is the best eMTB I've ever tested and I didn't experience anything remotely negative with the handling on that bike.
I hope you can do a decent trade and find that Turbo Levo that you already know. I've tested a few models and both Comp ALU and Comp (Carbon) are great bikes at huge discounts nowadays.

Thanks for your response. I appreciate that the M-Ltd is perhaps a superlative machine but like many I am unable to close the affordability versus performance gap. It would be helpful to have a flavour of the spectrum of bikes on offer from the brands rather than the top models, which was my original lament. Just something to ponder in the future.

This is interesting and timely you say this re the Wild, and how bike reviews are done in general. I agree, it would be more beneficial, and more relatable if reviewed tested the base or one tier up from base model more frequently, because surely the reviews have to be impacted by riding the best of the best.
I'm currently in this mental gymnastics battle between an Orbea Wild H30 and the Specialized Levo Alloy Comp, the biggest factor is price. Both are on sale, but the Levo is $1,200 more than the Wild. If the Levo Alloy had a battery larger than 500wh, I'd consider it somewhat, but even then, I think it looses value as comparison on components, while being the same sale price as that of the Wild H30.
And the reviews all leave me wondering. How much is it relatable to these lower end models. Can I pocket the $1,200 now and put that to future upgrades to improve the ride and handling quality of the H30? How much of that front end weight you note of is due to the alloy frame, or just due to the components of the wheels and fork, making the whole bike heavier vs the M-LTD version? I don't know, and there's no way to find out without spending some serious coin.

@@KDubber I always advice to testride the bikes yourself. Even if a reviewer like the bike, it's always a matter of personal preference. And reading forums from actual owners is also a must in my opinion. A review on YT is only one piece in the puzzle.
Most shops will allow to try the bike first. At least in the parking lot. But preferably if there is a bike festival/demo day around, that's the best option.

My experience, things that I found out, I hope it helps:
Orbea Wild vs Specialised Turbo levo
These are two different concept bikes. The new Orbea Wild has been developed to win Enduro races - chunky, rough, downhill terrain, this is its DNA. 'Gnarly' terrain would favour the Wild, its frame is rock solid and made for a beating. It is hugely planted and stable.
Specialized is a jack of all trades with its flip chip and flippable geometry. So, what kind of terrain are you going to be riding on 60-70% of the time, and what is your skill level? If you are a beginner and have man made flow trails/cross country that are most accessible, - then think Specialized.
      Price point
The crisis in the biking industry means that there are going to be deals as the brands jettison 2022/2023 huge stock. I wouldn't rush to buy, but wait and check prices - every day or every other day of the bike/s you are tracking. Specialized Turbo Levo Comp Alloy 2022 two weeks ago suddenly came on a 45% discount 10 days ago and sold out in 2-3 days. My advice - don't rush, the crisis is not over and deals are to be had in the coming weeks/ even months- be patient.
      Test ride
As Bike Adventure suggests - do go out and seek the bikes and ride them - very important. Travel to the shops, test the bike for size, weight, components etc. first hand. This is a several thousand dollar investment you are about to make. This was not available to me.
      Orbea Wild Alloy H series
I have it now on good authority that the frame is 1-1.5 kg heavier than carbon but is every bit as capable. The weight (26Kg - H20) is an issue for me, but perhaps not for many other riders - who just want to bomb down heavy terrain. In retrospect, I would have preferred the H30 with a smaller battery (weight advantage) and also, riding time available to me means 500wh battery is plenty for my needs. How much do you ride typically? Hours on end with a thousands of meters climbing - get the larger battery, but if like me you are riding 1-2 hours at a time, the bigger battery is a weight penalty.
I have it now on good authority that my lament (other than weight of the bike) about 'ride quality' is perhaps related to the suspension set up of the entry level bike. Other than that the frame is as good as it gets as an eMTB (internal routing through headset on the Wild notwithstanding).
      My journey:
I have now decided to stick it out with the Orbea. I was so upset initially, that I bought a Specialized Turbo Levo Comp Alloy (mentioned above on sale for approx 4400 USD) on my credit card, but common sense has prevailed. The component spec on the Comp Alloy are superior to entry level Orbea. I am sure I spied a tear or two when I cancelled my order for the cobalt blue and silver Specialized 2022. I cannot afford the heavy loss of selling in this market and buying again.
I am going to be very careful setting up the suspension as is, make it as best as I can (tokens/sag/rebound/compression). I will be on the look out in the coming months for upgrade components (expensive stuff fork, smaller battery - even 500wh, trails I ride are next door) (less expensive, lighter tubeless tyres, riser carbon handle bar). The process of falling back in love with my bike ( a bit like when aged 8 my parents bought me my first proper bike) has truly begun. Now that there is clarity and enough info, I can look to the future.....

hi. which exact model was the bike in the test. at @1:35 you are showing the specs of the M-LTD version, but your bike does not has the kashima coating on the fork, so it's not the M-LTD. thanks for the clarification.

      Hi!
It's a bit of a mystery tbh. This was a demo bike, one of the top models but not the most expensive. Orbea bikes can be ordered with upgraded components, so I think that's what has happened here. Didn't get a specific answer from Orbea about this bike...

Tycker du att man kan ha en emtb med integrerat batteri ståendes i en bod eller garage? Tänker på att batteriet kanske skadas vid minusgrader

    • @MTBs
      @MTBs  11 місяців тому +1
