I have been a devoted fan of Star Trek since seeing my first episode more than 40 years ago. The philosophies of this “universe” played an enormous role in shaping the person I am today. I loved this episode. It is easily in my top five from all series. Strange New Worlds is my favorite iteration of Star Trek yet. (Not a proclamation I take lightly.) The talent is outstanding. Ethan’s voice was hauntingly beautiful, and the way he portrays a pre-Kolinahr (no Google, I do not mean Kohlrabi) Spock is quite moving in its ups and downs. Ultimately knowing that Spock sheds his human side makes it so bittersweet. We’ll miss the days when he called her Nyota. Christina’s portrayal of La’an in season one was captivating, and this season with episodes 3 and 9 in particular she has blown me away. EGOT! Her song was so vulnerable and sung so beautifully. It really showed us the longing of a character with such a calm and tough exterior. And the development of her relationship with Una this season was really illustrated through the beautiful songs in this episode. And there’s Celia. Buckle in for the happy tears and goosebumps. Firstly, I fracking love Uhura. Ever since I was a little girl I’ve always thought she was so classy and talented and powerful …and Nichelle could sing. Celia’s portrayal of this iconic character just makes me love Uhura that much more.
This episode has also given me great lines to use on my family, for example, lately I’ve taken to responding to queries and thank yous with “I’m so proud to be your captain.”
All of this to say. The entire cast of this show is so talented. I haven’t been this giddy about an episode of Trek since the DS9/Tribbles episode. The writers of
SNW take good care of us fans, and the cast always delivers. (I watched it 4 times in the first day waiting for it to show up on Spotify).
Bravo! Hats off! Encore!
I love all of their chemistry!
Loved the musical. This was a great interview. Thank you!
You not only pulled it off, Subspace Rhapsody is my favourite Star Trek episode.
(and as a sidebar, I would pay to listen to Ethan Peck read (or sing) a phone book.)
The musical ended up being way more fun than I thought it would be. The irony of the Klingons doing a pop-y kind of tune is not lost on me, buuuut I think I would rather have seen them do some Pirate Metal! 😀
That would have been perfect 👌
I need a full version of the K(lingon)-pop...in both English and Klingon
Christine Chung is so beautiful. I can listen to her all day.
*Christina Chong
I love 11:27 this so much that I listen to it every day
Out of a great episode, klingon k-pop was the standout moment. Fun, funny, quirky and hilarious.
Out of curiosity, did you see the credits of the episode? Did you see who was playing the Captain of the Klingon ship? It was none other than Bruce Horak who played Hemmer. They found a really cool way to bring Bruce back into the fold.
@@techone72893 Now _that's_ funny!
Dang I didn't even see this yet!
I really dreaded this episode. To me it was a terrible idea. Expected cringe and thought I'd hate it. It wasn't and I didn't. I loved it.
