Thank you gents! I absolutely love your review videos. Your enthusiasm for Blackstar HT5R Mk2 made me go out and buy one. Keep up the great work.
The Blackstar HT-5R MKII combo amp is awesome! It has every input/output you could want, and an affects loop. Sounds great at low volume or high volume.
You fellas "pulled off" an excellent review of the New Black Star HT 1 and HT 5! Thank you Andertons.
Some tasty playing at the top, dear lads. The HT5R was my first step towards valves when I returned to electric guitar. Fab little amp. May your hangovers ebb gently. Cheers!
I've had a HT-5R combo for 5 years now and I love it, and the changes they've now made to it make me want to upgrade! The alternate voicings make it just so much more versatile, that crunch tone on the clean channel is great!
Sounds great! I have a HT-1 and it’s the best practice amp I’ve ever had. I ‘m looking forward to getting the HT-5R. The brilliant part is that you can get a great cranked sound without blasting out the windows. It’s genius really
I just bought a HT5R second hand for my first amp. It was upgraded with a Celestion Vintage 30 and it sounds so much better than my guitar with no amplifier!
I have been using my guitar for 2 years with no amplifier, Thanks to your comment I upgraded it with a Celestion. Very easy to do as the speaker magnet sticks to the pickups.
@@baguasrr ;-)
Speaker upgrades do wonders for those amps . Vintage 30 creamback H75 and g12h30s sound fantastic with those amps . Have not liked any M speakers with them.
I absolutely Love my HT5R combo. These look exquisite!
Pretty mild hangover to sound as cheerful as that, Rob ! Great amps.
Used HT5R head in the studio... Cannot believe how good these little Blackstars are!
Great review, Chappers & The Captain, you two are amazing.......
Those sound insanely good.
Purchased a Blackstar HT5 five years ago come this April. And it was directly due to your review and good words about them. Love it!
I can't be the first last or only person to say this but Chapman's reaction starting at 16:32 is priceless
I've been running a Ht5 as my home amp for while now.....awesome little machine. The ISF makes it such a usable wee thing.
These are so new that the Blackstar website doesn't even show them yet. (!) Impressive, Andertons.
Great amps, great company, Andertons that is, and great people.... Cheers guys!, you have an awesome channel
HT5 sounds KILLER.
Amazing video brought to you from amazing people, as usual.... You guys are great!!
got an HT5 and I love it. Makes all the sounds that my guitar is trying to make. With an included foot switch and my Boss blues driver, those two pedals give me everything I could want
Are there any alternatives to Blackstar HT-5 from other manufacturers that would be equal or better in terms of specifications? I can not think anything else than Laney Lionheart 5. There is also the Orange Terror products but I doubt if they would offer such a good variety of wattage options..
@ I have the Orange OR15 and that is a great amp. No reverb or channel switching, though. Hard to beat the HT-5R for flexibility and convenience.
@ Maybe the PRS Tremonti?
Didn't know they came out with updated versions! I have the cream 2x10 5th anniversary ht5 and I love it. Gonna have to check these out
But it would seem they eliminated the standby switch, which is always nice to have. Money grubbers!
I love blackstar ht5r mkii. After that I changed the speakers to greenbacks. And now it's perfect! 🤘🏼🎉🎊
Love the gain on the ht-5.
The HT1 has always been a bit of a secret weapon for recording and practicing that gets passed over to easily. No other amp I've had cleans up on the volume so nicely. Super sweet.
I just got an HT 5R, and I couldn't be happier
I own a HT-1RH head and cab in Bronco tan and love it. Best practice amp on the market in my opinion. Very hard to find a tube amp with headphone inputs which is needed for those of us living in apartments or with young kids taking their naps. ;)
DSL1HR mogs black star
The USB out is worth the price of admission.
You're getting an all-tube preamp.
Loving the extra tone from the bucket...
I own the previous HT-5R (in ltd edt white!) and I love it! Such great tone! Not sure there are enough new features on these new ones though to warrant any kind of upgrade.
I have both of these (original version). Love them.
Blackstar doing some great things with the half power, direct ouput and gain staging. It does everything you want in your head
The ht1 mkii sounds killer! 🤟
I bought one and I LURV it! (I used to have big Marshalls)
Nice, and informative! Any chance to explain once your pedalboard, which pedals are there, and what is the correct way to chain them?
I remember valve TV's. You would turn them on and get sound pretty much right away, but it would take a few seconds for the picture to show up. Longer if the tubes were worn. Also, the harmonic overtones of these amps are amazing.
Is it just me or did rob seem to really appreciate Lee’s playing here? Seems like he kept encouraging him to play and was really enjoying it.
I think these amps work like the Marshall 50th Anniversary set of amps (JTM1, JCM1 etc) with the ECC82/83 as the power. They are plenty loud surprisingly, even at the "attenuated" power levels.
i would love to hear danish peter go nuts with the head and speaker cabinet. førsatan!!!
Ive got the MKII 50 Club. Its very good and loud!
They may be better is some respects, but I still have an "on' and 'standby' switch on my "old" Ht-5R. Nice for taking a break and when you have a solid state rectifier.
That lp sounds great.
Brilliantly informative, and fun to watch, cheers lads!
bought the ht-1 only because it was in bronco tan tolex and looks fantastic. turns out it sounds fair good too
Mr Chapman is a brilliant guitarist and no doubt he plays what he wants, but to me he sounds so much more impressive without the myriad effects. He also sounds better with a hangover so perhaps he should be exiled to the Mississippi Delta for a year on a Jack Daniels diet. Then he may join the Pantheon. And fair play to the Anderton Man whose playing just gets better and better. It's a remarkable thing to see some-one find their musical voice.
The more 'old school' he plays the better he sounds...IMO.
True
Mrbarbel Barbello speaking of Mississippi delta check a blues band from there called left lane cruiser great band.
@@jameslyddall yes, heard them now. That's exactly what I mean. Thanks for that.
@@jameslyddall those guys rule! Black Pistol fire and Bass Drum Of Death are 2 other bands i'd highly recommend!
Makes me want to get a second HT5. Also love when Rob watches Lee play and just smiles.
Captains pedal setup is an amazing, I would like to know if you have list of pedals.
A HT vs DSL shoot out would be great!
Had both. Sold the dsl. It's not even close
@@straddieman1 I find DSL/Marshall to fizzy and trebly.
@@hadeseye2297 which version?
I kinda prefer the dsl40cr over the ht series, feel like the dsl has more volume and sounds bigger and more versatile
@@straddieman1 I was just the opposite, I ended up keeping the dsl 5 over the ht 5, good thing we have lots of options to choose from =)
I have both - an HT5 and a DSL 20.
Blackstar sounds awesome right out of the box; I have the HT-5 on the 2/12 (V70's) Blackstar Silverline, and it's incredible. Cleans are crisp. Overdrive is searing, and the stereo capability of the Silverline lets you run it with just one speaker if you really want to make it scream. The stereo cabinet will accept two HT1's, and is an awesome array if you're teaching students or working together in low volume songwriting sessions. The HT-5 seems a little under-powered to drive a 4/12 cabinet, but that does create a unique 'swallowed' dark valve tone.
I have the DSL20 on a Lead 2/12 (80/20's) and it's tinny. You have to turn the treble all the way down and roll the presence back to 3 or 4 PM. This takes some knob turning to get good tones.
Alternately, the DSL 20 sounds incredible on a Recto 4/12 w/ V30's. It really shines in the 3/4 stack configuration. The 2/12 configurations don't seem to load the valves down enough to get good bass response.
The DSL 20 is awesome for rehearsals and playing smaller stages, and can drive your 3/4 stack with no problems at all. On the same token, not so great for studio/practice/home setting with their suggested configuration.
The HT-5 is awesome for practice/studio/home use.
The DSL20 is awesome for playing small stages, especially when coupled with a half or 3/4 stack configuration.
Lee you are getting so much better!
You were never bad just average but now your slaying riffs man
That kick though 👏 well done Captain, also great playing guys! Cheers!
Incredible!
Nearly my exact setup. ‘19 ‘59 reissue LP in golden poppy running through an HT1 and Orange 1x12”. So easy to dial in. Bedroom player dream 😍
I agree. The original HT1 One sounds better with an 8 inch speaker. They added a ton of extra Bass so it works. If you plug it into a bigger speaker there is too much Bass. So it was voice perfectly. Same with the old ht-5 and the 10-inch speaker.
Play this LP in each coming video, killer tone in these hands. Jealous LES
Thats one nice LP
Original HT5 with 10' speaker had full iq for clean channel, the 12' version had only one "tone" knob for the clean and Treble, Middle, Bass and ISF for the Drive channel.
This made the older version a better pedal platform. And we, home players need a good pedal platform amp, because it's easier to have
one amp and a few pedals at home than 5 heads etc.. Aaaand money is a factor too.. :(
Also the 10' speaker was a Celestion (probably a G10N-40), and the new one has a Blackstar branded Blackbird 12'.
I'd love to see a challenge where Captain Lee plays very pointy guitars - Vs, Explorers, Razorbacks, Warlocks, etc. and which one he would find most comfortable (or hates the least) - as someone who probably stays away from that sort of stuff. :D
Also a blindfold higher or lower (rating) side by side pedal challenge for Chappers would be cool although I suppose that's similar to other stuff you guys have done
I can attest to the warbeast body being extremely uncomfortable to sit with.
Explorer is actually a very ergonomic guitar. It balances well, sits in your lap well, it's easy to access upper frets, not too heavy.
I got an ht5 deluxe with his celestion speaker and wow... sounds warm and sweet . Defenitly the perfect deal
Raily 971 I was so tempted to buy it when it was on sale but eventually I didn’t, I’m regretting my choice so bad right now
The 'voices' are really different on the 5. Most amps, my old, mangled ear drums struggle to tell the difference. You're really tempting me into Blackstar, you know that don't you?
Great video. Not sure to understand though, the HT212 vertical cab seems fitted for the HT1 according to Blackstar's website although they recommend it more particularly for the HT20 but you have not plugged your HT1 on that HT212 so is this because you think it is not as fitted as a single 1x12"?
I was keen on looking at the DSL1 by Marshall but all the reviews seems to indicate Blackstar in the small amp compartment is head and shoulder above Marshall. Anything below the DSL40 apparently, it is just not quite the Marshall tone... Now, price-wise the Blackstar HT1 + HT212 cost about the same (roughly) as... the Marshall DSL40CR. If you go for the HT5 or HT20, it is more expensive than the first DSL you guys at Andertons seem to recommend. So really which one would you pick? Both options sound amazing to me but then I am a newbie. Thanks.
Chappers sounds excellent!
Brilliant
It's interesting to hear how this amp changes how Rob Chapman plays. I'm used to hearing him do the usual virtuoso stuff, but here he seems to be letting the tones ring out a little more. I know he's a bit of a 1 watt Blackstar devotee, but still. One gorgeous note through the right guitar and the right amp just begs to be left ringing for a little while longer than usual.
You did this video at the right time! I'm considering buying one of these for my bedroom. This or an AC4?
did you buy either?
Whey!! The smashing of the cups and the ball are back! The amps sound great, great value for money!
That HT5 sounds great! :P I want it.
Thanks guys! Question: has anyone tried the emulated output ot the HT1?
Sounded like Lee through in a little bit of Allman brothers, hats off.
I LOVE the idea of being able to convert it from open back to closed back and vise versa!
I’ve got an Original HT5 and it’s great run into a 4x12.
2 suggestions: 1. Get a large db monitor and put it on the wall always on. 2. Do an evertune blindfold challenge. LTD ec-1000 would be a good test.
ive seen the vids for the best low volume amps..katana air ,vox adio, yamaha thr30. but.the ht5r on 0.5w mode shits all over all of them all put together and during the day you can have 5w..
I love Lee’s playing so much. I think he’s an incredibly soulful player and I would enjoy some sort of EP.
Just a heads up guys, soju is a rice LIQUOR, compared to sake which is a rice wine. I work at a sushi restaurant so my ears perked up when I heard Rob and Lee say that soju was a wine. 😋👍
When will these be available to the public?
When will the HT5R combo be back in stock?
I love my HT-1R MkI
The bh7 doesn't stand up to the el84 sry
I really love that’s guys from blackstar. Thank you for leave Marshall factory .
Love the HT1, almost like a portable 5150, little more modern distortion, like Ozzy stuff.
I own the original HT-5 (10" speaker), the HT-5 Metal and the HT-5 Mk II...can't decide which one to keep as I like them all equally.
I'm sold. I want one!
Now what do I do with my last version!
@@nomojo6329 good 1!
Love the removable back panel on the cabs! Jet City Cabs have had that option for years, hope that it trickles into the market as a standard!
Great review guys. Les Paul through HT5 sounded pretty awesome.
What are the pick ups in the Tele Rabea may or may not buy?
I've been trying to find a low-wattage amp that gives the bell-like, glassy tone of a Mesa Boogie. This amp sounds pretty good, but not with that type of tone. Any suggestions?
I'd try the Joyo Zombie, but I'm sure that there are many onther amps with similar tones.
Lol! I just got an HT-1 head and 12" cab yesterday. YESTERDAY!!! One freakin' day before the new one is announced. Hah! Bastards...
That being said, pushing the clean channel into distortion with the single coils on my Strat is one of the most glorious sounds I've ever heard. You can tell how much the guys love these amps. Not of lot of goofing here, just lots of love for tone.
What do you suggest for a bedroom use? One of these amps or a bugera v5?
Sounds great! Especially at the 10 minute mark
That intro was so so goood, need a track around this asap
U2 both bette playerr after a few drinks captain is really loise with his playing blackstar sounds fantastic...roll that power on UK brothers
my concern is that is the ht5 a good pedal platform? I see the clean tone EQ is only a tone knob and the 3-band eq is only for drive channel. hmm..
Just build an old greeback made in uk in my hr5 combo and it sounds so much better now..... btw, love the chickenheads. And great playing Captain.
They sounded really good for sure.
Is it still the same distortion pedal with a tube design? Dont get me wrong, i have one, just wanna know
Two of either one could make a great budget stereo setup
the 0,5 watt is interesting. before to seek with of the two amp own that. can you tell me if both amp has that feature?
This made me buy the HT5, thanks guys.
the way they have the amp set it sounds like a Scholz Rockman... not that it's a bad tone just sounds like a Rockman and I like the Rockman tone...
Will there be a HT5R 210 again please? Pretty please?
Am i the only one watching these videos and thinking "Oh man, i'd love to hang out with this guys and get drunk"? hahahaha
Yes you are....
I would like to hang out with Rob in the hope that he can mange to teach me about scales and modes where other "teachers" have failed.
undercrackers56 what’s your problem with scales and modes? I encourage you to lern basic music theory, then everything explains itself and your guitar playing improves massively.
When you start seeing the fretboard in notes and scale degrees everything makes sense and you play fluidly on the whole fretboard.
Just learning the shapes is nearly useless, because you don’t really know what your playing.
Best way is to learn it on piano and then adapt it to guitar.
The keyboard makes much more sense when learning music theory than the fretboard.
Let's get real.....if Blackstar was making their amps in USA or UK or Mexico......they would be going for MEGA bucks like the EVH line. They are amazing amps.....and this is coming from someone that owns a 100watt Marshall.
the fact what the distortion of Blackstar its a transistor circuit is for longering the useful life of the amp? or just to reduce costes?
The best emulated output ever
