Hi Kat. My Dad is a Native American jewelry Silversmith. He has been making jewelry since I was a kid. He owned a store in Las Vegas for years. A lot of the perfect looking jewelry is machine made. He still works using his hands and older machinery to cut and buff etc... I have turquoise coming out of my ears at this point! Thanks for all you do.
Hi. As a nurse of 51 years I love your channel. I’m just getting started in this business. You have taught me so much. I’m profoundly grateful. At 71, confined to a wheelchair and sucking on O2 I needed something I can do by myself, if needed without help from anyone. Reselling is it along with writing. So, thank you again and shine on! Nurses rock!!!
Kat i have been watching your videos for a while now. You are a storehouse of information .ive learned somuch from you .thank you for sharing your knowledge. I understand totally why you left nursing .this is so much more fun!❤ thanks again. Patti
First of all I will like thank you your research videos, that absolutely great ,you are very easy to understand, you put in the emphasis on the importance of of what to look for and what not to do as far as misrepresenting an item ,Ms Nurse Flipper I have learned so much just watching you amazing channel. I also watch Bolo buddies and shed flipper for comparison, I do believe in my personal opinion I am able to retain the information that you share the most. Thank you so much for your time and knowledge. Your smile is always a welcome view in my household.
Thank you so much for this video, I love Native American jewellery, and trying to learn more about it. As I live in the UK we don't see it much here. Xxx
Thank you so much for doing this video it helps a lot. I am kind of afraid to list my native pieces, because some stories i have heard about how some people try to rip you off.
Wow I live in New Mexico I hope to get those someday but I usually never have enough money I just went to estate sales and only one have that type of jewelry they had a beautiful horse necklace I wanted for myself but they wanted 650.00 for it i was so sad I thought it was 65.00 I would have gotten for that. Good reviews on this stuff thanks Kat
@TheNurseFlipper I've been out of the game for a while. You may or may not know I had colon-rectal cancer stage 3 for the past 2 and a 1/2 years been battling that finally had coral rectal removal. I'm in the hospital, but I'm optimistic and excited about getting back into the game. I just charged from the hospital tomorrow. Yada yada Yada. I'm excited to be making videos, and i'm still reselling. Nonetheless, I'm still doing what I love. It's been a whole lifetime of changes.
I like Native American style or southwest style. I went to Tucson Arizona, and they had all these belt buckles that were from rodeos and there’s a lot of beautiful work that goes into these belt buckles and I was wondering if maybe you’d wanna do a video on that enough people would be interested in it, but there’s a lot of our Native American work style that goes into making them. I wonder if the rodeo belt buckles really go for as much as they really should third just a piece of artwork some of them are what’s called black hills, gold inlay work too. 🤠
Hi Kat! Please tell us about your “bear claw” experience. Also, while thrifting I found a leather pouch which contained an actual bear claw. I was mortified! Suggestions on what to do with it? 😢
Hi Nurse Flipper , My Mother gave me a lot of old Indian jewelry & it is authentic turquoise , coral and ivory. These stones are pretty lg . I was wondering how much to sell this spectacular necklace for ?
The only thing I can say isn’t Fred Peshlaki signing FP in an arrow, because I have a piece and was searching for his signature i couldn’t find any without the arrow.
Hello! Been watching for a long while now.. You're videos are great! Question that I have is, I inherited my mother and fathers vintage native american jewelry this past year, and although some pieces have Initials of the makers name on the back, some do not.. like the squash blossom necklace that I have. Would you recommend taking what I have into be authenticated, or is my knowing they came from the Navajo tribe enough since I was alive when the Indian dealer would come to our house and sell jewelry and stones to my parents? Are auctions better to do on eBay for selling these items or BIN? Where do I start?? Lol Thanks for any info you may provide!
It may need mentioning when testing metals with the rare earth magnet, often the clasps on sterling and gold fine jewelry WILL be magnetic. This is due to a wire mechanism inside the clasp that is a ferrous metal. Perhaps this is common knowledge? Thank you.
Hey Kat, I've got some vintage Sterling Turquoise and Amethyst pieces that were my mother's I'm interested putting in the right hands. How could I get photos too you if you're interested.
Hi Kat please let your Canadian subscribers like myself KNOW that with the changes to the internet LAWS in Canada our subscriptions to NON Canadian content are either being deleted or the notications are being turned off by UA-cam. I am so glad that I I joined your channel however its upsetting to me that people I want to watch and see I am not being notified about like this video! When you mentioned doing this I began ANXIOUSLY awaiting this information as I have a great deal of items I "think" are indiginous art. BUT we need to make sure that all the KATnadians know to hit the notifications for "ALL" on your channel that I just turned on AGAIN because this isn't the first time turned off my notifications YO! I'm frustrated because the only way I knew you dropped is it was in my main recommendations and as one of your channel members you would think that UA-cam would not touch my subscription and I would get notified the second you added content PISS ME OFF.
I have some jewelry that look like sterling is marked 925 (for sterling silver) and when I did the acid test on them, they weren’t sterling silver. Also not all the non magnetic metal are fine jewelry. Be aware.
Kat, I arrived at an estate sale 3 hours after they opened. The jewelry was pretty well picked over but a large, heavy, unmarked Native American necklace was still on the table. There are no stones but has 14 convex buffalo nickels. It's heavy but no markings which is probably why it wasn't taken. I bought it for $10 and have it listed on Ebay for $599. I think it is Old Pawn and made from nickel silver. Doing my comps, I've seen them made also from Liberty dimes. I've read that Old Pawn Native American jewelry often wasn't marked. I would love to find similar items as the ones you featured today. I've only found smaller items here in Texas. Do you have a collection of things you have found and never plan to sell? That would be an interesting video. Also, your best find would be interesting as well. Don't know how you do what you do. After a day of thrift shopping, it often takes me days to do comps, take photos and list things. It has become a hobby for me.
Now my comments will be questions...my research led me to believe that native jewelry is made with glue...you don't see the glue but if they don't use glue for setting stones how are they set?
As a silversmith, we use terms like gallery wire or bezel wire to describe the silver that copletely surrounds a cabochon (in this case mainly turquoise or coral), but could be any non-faceted stone. Most of these examples show serrated bezel wire. Individual silver 'cups' are formed around each stone so the fit is precise. (The bezel wire can be sterling, or more often fine silver, sometimes depending on the timeframe of the piece.) Those are then soldered onto a silver back plate. When the stone is placed into this 'cup', the (serrated) bezel wire is then folded over/against the cabochon stone to hold it in place. As to whether glue is used, each maker, and even each setting in a piece of jewelry, could be set differently. I've never heard of glue being used as the ONLY device to hold a stone in place. Any glue will eventually fail. I suppose it can be used in conjunction with the bezel wire if the artist chooses. Turquoise is a fairly soft stone and can be broken during the carving, cutting and or setting processes. I hope this offers a bit of clarification without being confusing.
Well I just started n I use glue I have been using to glue wotever and then I seeal with modge podge and nail polish seem to work but would love to learn more
You can ask if they're certified. I know as licensed auctioneer you're able to provide appraisal for selling purposes but I don't believe you can for insurance reasons
Maybe a stupid question... but what makes a zuni a zuni .... and what makes a fetish necklace a fetish necklace... and what makes a squash necklace a squash necklace? 11:07
Zuni are Pueblo Native Americans , fetish is symbols carved that mean good luck and several tribes made them and squash is exactly that the necklace is shaped like a squash blossom
@TheNurseFlipper so the sideways half moon pendent on most squash necklaces has nothing to do with it? I'm new to jewelry so I'm trying to catch up lol
Mercari has tightened the rules on Native American items. I resorted to just listing as SouthWestern unless it's a serious piece then Ill get it checked out. I just started studying Native American Artifacts and Jewelry. Fun video Kat

I had something in the shape of bear claw put that in title and it was removed for selling animal parts (it was just in the shape lol)
Hi Nurse Flipper , My Mother gave me a lot of old Indian jewelry & it is authentic turquoise , coral and ivory. These stones are pretty lg . I was wondering how much to sell this spectacular necklace for ?
I can't see photo, if you're unsure of value you could always do an auction but ivory isn't legal to sell so if it is ivory you can't sell it by law
The only thing I can say isn’t Fred Peshlaki signing FP in an arrow, because I have a piece and was searching for his signature i couldn’t find any without the arrow.

Now my comments will be questions...my research led me to believe that native jewelry is made with glue...you don't see the glue but if they don't use glue for setting stones how are they set?
They are held in by prongs is my understanding
