I didn't know Atlas had this style of packaging for this long James! I just got a BNSF B40-8W the other day and was surprised they changed to the Intermountain style packaging, didn't realize they did this 5+ years ago! Only other Atlas Dash 8-40BW I got is from about 10 years ago and the packaging was similar to the Athearn Ready to Roll style then.
Wow. Cab figures in this unit. Cool. Love CSX. And I live in there city headquarters in Jacksonville FL. Love those box car logos. Atlas is coming out with N scale CSX dash 8 40 Cs and dash 8 40CWs. You can stick with HO scale. I'm liking HO scale too. I hope the N scale locomotives have the blinking lights up front.
It was great to meet you in person and talk. Funny enough, I was just about to order a loksound decoder for my Atlas Dash 8-40CW in conrail and saw your video here. I think I'll go ahead and order a decoder to throw in it to replace the stock QSI decoder.
Looks like you got a lantern collection there, I might be able to get my hands on a UP lantern if you don’t have one. Or I could give you a used one since I work for them, lol. Let me know!
Very nice model, although gotta say that it'd be nice if Atlas would paint the Weather striping around the windows, every other manufacturer does it.It just means more detailing that i will have to do to the unit.Other than that Awesome model!
Looks like they have the same boxing method as Fox Valley Models. I had the same idea with my GP60. Now I have a case to carry my engines in, especially my GP60.
Guess what? I live in Jacksonville FL! The CSX headquarters! The CSX mainline is right behind my house. So is the NS mainline to Jacksonville Simpson yard.
haha easy. the dash 8 narrow noses never had ditch lights. The later Dash 8 xxCW cabs had ditch lights. not fully sure if the Dash 8 xxBW had ditch lights. "W" standing for Wide cab, the only cab style to be offered from both GE and EMD
Yes this locomotive had ditch lights. Just looks for pictures of this unit on the net. They are on top of the pilot. All class one mainline locos have ditchlights.
then you will find it was a later attachment as when they first rolled out ditch lights were not a thing. many where still using gyro lights or beacon lights. bitch lights came into there own in the mid 1990's. dah 8 40b's where built in 1988-1989 well before the introduction of ditch lights. the same holds true for SD40-2, SD50, SD60 and SD60M
Nice review. Personally I think Atlas does a bunch of fine locos. Of course I wish they would do more UP stuff or CB&Q stuff, but that's what floats my boat. I DO wish that Atlas would have a different pachage. I understand screwing down the loco from its container trip from China, but many of us use the original box for storage or transport and the locomotive is NOT secured if you don't re-attach the screws - kind of a pain! James, isn't this the same chassis that Atlas uses for their MR&T (Model Railroader) units? Thanks for the review.
I voluteered to do restoration of the AMTRAC Vista Crusier car" Puget Sound" . Im asking AMTRAC to let me model AMTRAC high Speed rail routes in up to date paint schemes or passenger routes. Could be a real fun thing a history with this car its run down Im retired Ill live on it if I have to. Single no job retiree with an income. If I get this can you assist with ideas suppliers etc.Are you a sargent sir? Heard that somewhere.
The September 2016 Model Railroader issue says the Dash 8-40BW's come with ditch lights, do the Dash 8-40B's come with them too or is this an older model? I would like to know.
Get you a wood chopstick as a pointer they are free if you like China food .More professional then a metal pen or screwdriver.Does not set a good example for care of the model poking at the finish with your shaky hands .I like your videos and they are well done, but too me it is not proper equipment being used solder!
Your forgiven. I just bought an undec to swap into my older LMX. Love the sound and control. I can vouch for your findings.
Glad to see the drive by at the end is back!
i was genuinely excited about the hand brake chain detail ass well! lol
the windshield wipers look great as well.
"i shake more than a child on a treadmill during an earthquake." LOL
I love how the horn has a hint of echo.
thanks for making this possible so that I have a idea for what locomotive to get

Just received my chessie 8-40c unit. Great model well done and very pleased. This is there second release. Long wait for this per order.
The original CSX 5930 was bought by Pan Am Railways in 2017. It was just recently repainted into Pan Am blue colors.
And then CSX bought Pam Am
Love the well cars in the scenery @ 8:15! Must have been a bad derailment!

I briefly owned a CN C40-8 that had the QSI Titan 3 sound decoder and I have to admit it had really good sound and motor control.
Well if you want to buy the decoder from me when I tear it out You can have it!
modeltrain9500 No thanks, currently trying to save for a BLI NH I-4 4-6-2
That's a nice locomotive! Thanks for the review!

CSX dash-8b's never got past YN3 if they were lucky most of them stayed in YN2 until they retired from CSX
For future reference, this lok is called a C40-8.
C40-8 is the six axle version of this. This one is a B40-8
i'm new to your channel, have you ever showed your whole layout. by the way loved the review!!!
Great review. Atlas makes good Diesels
Looks like they have the same boxing method as Fox Valley Models. I had the same idea with my GP60. Now I have a case to carry my engines in, especially my GP60.
Nice review James. The real former CSX 5930 is owned by Pan Am Railways & in Pan Am paint
Did I miss the MSRP? Anyone catch the price? Nice video and loco!
You do a awesome job on reviews
Good review. Atlas makes good stuff. I wish they would switch to Kadees or McHenry's instead of their wonky designed plastic ones.
I have a review request. can you do the bachmann gp40 DCC sound? I am planning on buying it and I want to see how it runs.
Excellent very informative presentation. Pity about the omission of the ditch lights on this model.

Guess what? I live in Jacksonville FL! The CSX headquarters! The CSX mainline is right behind my house. So is the NS mainline to Jacksonville Simpson yard.
Pinchie08 That's cool! I live around 3 miles from the nearest track. It's the FEC mainline!
Atlas does a great job with CSX models in HO and N scale. Most of my CSX models are N scale.
And O-Scale CSX
Plz do more CSX locomotives
James excellent review on this. Get some rest but a fast question. Do you know if Atlas will start putting on BLMA parts on their N and HO products?
A Nathan M5 on a dash 8....now thats something u dont see everyday
Mentioning of the NJT commuter set, are you going to do a review on that??
No ditch lights at all? Come on Atlas, how can you forget that?
seriously.

Seems you just cannot understand that this model has a very current CSX paint scheme, so it should have ditchlights.
Oo! Atlas, STOP FORGETTING THE DITCH LIGHTS!
LOVE THE LOCO MOTOR SOUND ...LOVE THE OLD U BOATS!!!!
Not a U-boat, U-boats were the U23bs
Purchased this engine and could not make it around two different tracks after the wheels were cleaned. Sent back to Atlas.

Is there plans to review the Rapido RDC when they start delivering them?
Question. Is it possible to change the horn and second is it possible to do so on all DCC controlers? Same with TCS Wow
Hi James Is jmri a good thing to use? And If so what do I need to make this happen? And If not what do you use for s throttle?
how do you keep your tracks so clean???

another fantastic review.
Very interesting !
I’ve read this engine has a Doppler sound effect can someone tell me what number you can use to activate it
Awesome review!
since you were talking about a CSX engine, use a CSX designation B40-8...
Would like to se more of your layout
Can you make a locomotive roster update?
Great review!!
The September 2016 Model Railroader issue says the Dash 8-40BW's come with ditch lights, do the Dash 8-40B's come with them too or is this an older model? I would like to know.
this is a new model
oh, okay. So I guess only the Dash 8-40BW's have ditch lights. I can't decide, really. This one has a nice bell and horn on it. Awesome review!
So awesome I've watched it like 20 times!
Trains N' Stuff they’re known as B40-8s and B20-8s and B40/20-8Ws but it’s okay.
Review more switchers
One day I’ll have DCC and a proper layout.
What horn is that?
A loud one. Lol
Had all my N scale locomotives stolen and all the box cars ,including the transformer ,hope that son of a bitch is enjoying it .... Jimmyjam
No Ditchlights???This model should have had them.
Why would you care so much about ghost trains if the engines are so small that it's hard to see into the cabs.
I like the un boxing bexause I didn't know how the first time ,, and used a knife ]
I usually use a exacto saw myself. Lots of fun.
CSX is KING
I have a Csx YN2 GP38-2 4402
no ghost train
I ordered a new train engend from kato
i like
I have 5931
Im a csx fan
