- The rarest 996 Carrera is back at FGP and this time it's to stay. This is the introduction to our all new series, where we'll be compiling an archive of videos on UA-cam, documenting all of the upgrades, enhancements and maintenance that we complete to this 996, as we make it one of the finest examples around.

Well done Luke & FGP Team. I too have a super early 10/97 built 996 Carrera Manual / rear wiper and traction control delete (in Sydney) and am doing the same. I am not shying away from the egg headlamps, side markers and rear lights, and in fact the very early 996's now look best with the GT1 headlamps in my view. I have the 997 GT3 shifter, and last weekend added Prekom 964 / 993 RS semi solid engine mounts and the difference is astonishing (in a very good way). No added NVH, but significantly better feel and control. I
have 18" GT3 split wheels and they work well, albeit the Turbo hollow spokes really work. I had a vert early 73 built G series once, and the subtle differences of the early cars are nice to see, so my advice is make the FGP original in appearance. I think M030 is perhaps the right way to go, as coilovers are pretty hard, and the M030 was perfect on Paul's yellow C4S you featuredd. Not certain, but I will be influenced by your own choice in updating my own suspension. Good luck, can't wait to see the build up.
Beautiful car. Looking forward to seeing the journey 🤙
Well played and great idea. The ‘Flagship’ Friends Green Porsche. Longtime subscriber and really like seeing you and the team develop your reputation, skill, and influence. From Boston, cheers!
Thank you for the kind words!
Looks a very tidy car Luke and looking forward to the future videos.
Another great little vid amazing condition
That’s a sweet one! I like the idea for it, too👏🏼
Luke, that is absolutely beautiful!! Even though it is water cooled. 😜😩
Ohlins 👌🏻👌🏻👍👍
The clean lines of this car really lets the colour pop
Lovely car, Luke - I can see why you were keen to have it back. Looking forward to the deep-dive on the tweaks and upgrades.
Great that you've got the car back, its definitely a stand out 996, I'm looking forward to seeing the progress
Thanks!
Congratulations I was wondering what happened with that beautiful car. Glad you got hold of it. It reminds me of the Gmünd T-2222. So my suggestion on the series would be; Friends Greens “Gmünd” Porsche Playbook Series.
IT’S MINT !
Dashing 996 Luke. Glad you have it back as your Friends Green "poster car"
What a beautiful colour and such an underrated 911!
That is a fantastic colour. Can’t wait to watch the upgrades
Lovely example, "Dream Build" would be my suggestion
Friends Green Porsche Reference Library. Great idea by the way. As you describe the purpose, it reminded me of a reference work. Like a Living Haynes Manual. I avoided FGP Manual because of the ambiguous nature of Manual. Always enjoy your new content. Hitherto a great reference work for someone buying a 911. Maybe also do a buyers guide similar to the series thr Collecting Cars has done on various Ferrari etc. Good work guys.
Lovely! "Friends Green Machine"
the friendly green Porsche!
Gorgeous car! Series title suggestion - "Friends Green Ultimate 996 Prep Novel" 😉
That’s just perfect!
Orange goes well with green. I suggest you try orange front side indicators and If that looks good Perhaps be bold and ”retromod” with orange rear lights also. It would be unique combined with the original white headlights and my guess is it would look stunning and a bit Classic. 😊
Yep, I bet new she had pumpkin side markers. #orangebarmy
great series idea love it
Congratulations Luke. Loved this car when you first had it in, beautiful colour. How about Friends Green Unicorn 🦄 . Can't wait to follow the series. As for suspension, go for non coil overs.
Thanks Wilbert!
My First 996 was a Carrera 4 1999 in ocean jade with black interior! Beautiful car! Enjoy the Build
Sounds lovely.
@@friendsgreenporsche5234 wish I still had it TBF
Purchased a 996 Carrera 4 cabriolet 2002. Interested to see what mods you do.
Gorgeous colour...like others have suggested already .."Friends Green Machine " or in German "Friends Grüne Maschine "
Not many of these about that’s for sure. What make is the car cover, Luke?
Great car Luke not seen one in Ocean Jade before so suggest Project OJ
Hey guys what happened to this series? Was really looking forward to see it.
A Lean green advertising machine
Ocean Jade was pretty common on the 1998 and 1999 Boxster. Blue Turquoise in 1997 was the rarest Boxster color and also came from the 993. Unless I heard you wrong, a 1998 911 in that color must have been ROW as the US only got Ocean Jade in 1999 and 2000 (we did get 1998 993’s as a consolation prize). I’ve seen a few over the years, but never with the sunroof delete option. I can’t wait to see the progress of making it the Friends “Green” show car (go radical with a double wishbone front suspension).
A neighbour of mine had a 987 Boxster s in Ocean Jade, he had it from new in 2005 and it was a special order paint option which looked amazing. This would be my colour of choice, you either love it or hate it. Makes my arctic silver look pretty boring!!
I have some photos of one of the I saw in Funchal in Madeira back in 2016 but I cannot upload them to the comments . James
Bodywork looks pristine Luke, nice car!! What’s the mileage? Mark D.
Project unicorn. Don’t go too low, needs to be for the road.
The Perfect (?) 996 by FGP
Did the UK have 1998 Porsche 996's?
My car is an 02/98 build date and first registered in Florida in April of 1998, but the model year is 1999.
996 gold
Project Kermit.
How long until the first meet Luke? We had our first meet for a new local sports and classic car club at the weekend and the organisers were amazed at how many cars turned up.
We’re working on it!
Keep it original

Do a Numeric Shifter please!
Stunning! Congratulations. Shame no rear wiper but lovely.
The rear wiper arm delete makes this example more desirable!
@@friendsgreenporsche5234 Google ‘Porsche rear wiper DNA’
If you spot a contemporary Porsche with the optional rear wiper, it is a safe bet that it is most likely driven by a Porsche connoisseur.
Uninitiated enthusiasts, unencumbered by intimate familiarity of Porsche tradition, have been known to moan and wail that the iconic rear wiper is stylistically unbecoming. On the contrary, a Porsche sporting a rear wiper is analogous to Sean Connery as James Bond in black tie donning a steel Rolex Submariner: a seemingly incongruous functional instrument; seemingly out of place, but discreetly hinting at ancillary capabilities on call.
What would you prefer driving: an automobile unabashedly displaying an object of tangible functionality while simultaneously honoring its no-nonsense heritage; or a mechanical fair-weather pretty boy?

Put some Tractive coilovers on!
My favourite car, if you ever sell let me know please.
Genesis Green Porsche
Hoping it would be Sally.
Before watching I bet it's a millennium edition!!!
