I read 2 guides by KurasuSoratobu that explained a lot of hidden mechanics in the game and spent a lot of time verifying and discovering mistakes stated in those guides. And also learned from UA-cam comments.
Anyone notice if the Switch DX version is bugged for nature? I can only get best nature phoenix even with 2 worst mons combined. I combed the database and found ones calculated to have -99 and -100 nature and still got a best result? If this is a mistake on my end can I get a suggestion for song/artist to use as ingredient monster?
There's a bug where the nature of the every combined monster will be the base nature of the monster. Since the base nature of the Phoenix is 90, all Phoenixes from combining are born with Best nature. With that said, if you want to get a Bad/Worst nature Phoenix, so that you can learn Flame Cannon, you will have to Shrine one. For example, this CD will give you a Worst natured Phoenix Title: Hg Artist: mHz This CD will give you a Good Phoenix that can be turned Bad: Title: IPCC Artist: Sama
if I remember correctly, my phoenix was immortalized because it became a statue since we win some legend cup or something. It enter the Hall Of Fame...
It didn't "become" a statue, but it's more like they built a statue for your Phoenix with the date it entered the hall of fame posted in front. You can continue training your Phoenix even after it entered the hall of fame
@@teawch Ah, yeah that's it.. sorry, it's has been, around more than 2 decade ago... if I'm not wrong, there's also 2 more Phoenixes a black one and a blue one...
Cheers for the time and effort it takes to do these videos, just curious though if you don’t care about the nature what do you replace this with? Or do you just continue with the drug training? Also playing on DX does this affect things? Would love to see update videos using DX. Once again cheers!
If you don't care about nature, replace the jelly routine with the NO+HD/ML+LD routine. Monsters have 100 weeks less lifespan on the DX, so it will be harder to get the stats up, but maxing stats is still doable
It's not applicable on the DX because every monster's nature gets reset to the base nature after combining. In the case of Phoenix, the base nature is 80 (Best)
For the 50 Fire Waves needed to learn Fire Stream, do any uses of that move you'd done for the first Phoenix, before combining, count/carry over? Like any that my "first Phoenix" had ever used? I'm not really sure about "tech chains". I never got very deep into the mechanics of this game, especially when it came to combining optimally. I kind of only ever combined to get sub-types I thought looked cool, which usually just resulted in minor/moderate stat carryover.
No, the 50 Fire Streams from the 1st Phoenix don't carry over. In fact, if the combined Phoenix doesn't have the move when it is born, the number of uses doesn't carry over. For example, even if you have Flame Shot and Flame Cannon on the 1st Phoenix, if the combined Phoenix doesn't have Flame Shot when it's born, you will have to learn Flame Shot, then use it 50 times to be able to learn Flame Cannon
It would work, but it won't be worth the time reloading until you get -10 stress from the Magic Banana. The Magic bananas will help if you're willing to put in the effort to reload though
Yeah getting max stats is easier in mr2 coz of bananas but rerolling is much nore convenient in dx coz of fast forward function, esp for competitive play where u need specific stat requirements
@@teawch not gonna lie, been watching your videos and i'm amazed at how much this game had and how complex it is! I was just a kid playing thinking it was a super simple and dumb game, kinda makes me wanna go back and play it again lol
I did it on Monster Rancher 2 Dx. Almost done it, just Speed (927) and Defense (956) I didn't complete before the lifespan has ended. The -100 weeks from the original would made difference. I don't think it is impossible, with some Great on the Drills and reset to get better stats when competing for the Fire Wave, I would have completed it.
No, you can't get another Fire Feather after your Phoenix flies away. You can always get a new one from the Shrine with the right CD though. Phoenix and Metalner are the special cases where you won't get Mock or Wracky from because your monster doesn't truly die
@@teawch so that phoenix statue on 2nd visit don't has the ff? even at dx version? I lost the battle for centaur yesterday, fear if this will afect my monster life span!
@@overdalcy The Phoenix Statue in the 2nd Kawrea expedition won't have the Fire Feather if you already got one from the 1st expedition. You can always get a new Phoenix from the Shrine, so there is no need to get another Fire Feather Losing to the Centaur has no effect on your monster's lifespan

Dude I forgot to get my phoenix into "neutral" nature, and I'm trying to combine it with worst nature monsters, but it keeps going out as "good" nature, is there any way to get it into neutral or to do the same but using a "good" nature phoenix?
Yes, a Phoenix born with Good nature can be turned Bad using the Sweet Jelly routine at 6:47 Only some Phoenix (not all) born with Best nature cannot be turned Bad
I dont know why my monster always die at 3 years even I full take care of him after drill I rest but why they cant have long lifespan like yours even your monster train really hard and less rest
Yes, you can use this same method for Jill, but this is mainly because Jill has the same life type as Phoenix (called Type 3, which has a long childhood) For Mocchi, you might have to use less Paradoxine. Or use a Mocchi with a sub-breed that has a Type 2 life type (like /Dragon or /Tiger), since life type is determined by the sub-breed. Detailed explanation: Paradoxine increases Pow and Ski in exchange for a 10% decrease in Spd and Def each week. So the best time to use Paradoxine is during a monster's childhood, when the gains from Paradoxine outweigh the gains the monster can get from training and also because the monster has low Spd and Def, so a 10% decrease is not much. During stages like Adolescence and Adulthood (Prime), it's better to train rather than use Paradoxine. A monster's life type is determined by it's sub-breed. /Beaclon, /Dragon, /Ghost, /Hopper, /Mock, /Naga, /Pixie, /Plant, /Suezo, /Tiger are Type 3. For example, Jill/Jill is Type 2, but Jill/Suezo is not. Type 2 monsters have long childhoods allowing Paradoxine to be used more effectively than other life type monsters. I hope this is not too confusing, let me know if you need more elaboration.
@@teawch You mean the ones you used on Chucky with? It will subtract 18 weeks of its life span. But, with the techniques with care, it will be performed properly.
@@Order-Sol Yup, those ones. I forgot I used Trorons for Phoenix, not Paradoxine, sorry for the confusion. Troron's usage is similar to Paradoxine though, use it only during the monster's childhood and not other stages.
Though in DX you can shrine a Blue Phoenix that starts with Worst nature.(It can also shrine with like 1350 stat total) Is that satisfactory as a replacement? I wouldn't be surprised if there's some other element that would interfere though.
@@serenastieveling Album: Hg Artist: mHz gives you a bad Phoenix, although it's starting stats is low, its lifespan is 410, larger than usual Phoenixes which is 350. Also, it's already start with Fire Twist.
You probably can. I haven't played on any Android emulators, but it should be similar to PC in some way. As a reference, here's how I do it using ePSXe on PC: 1. Go to Shrine, go through the dialogue until it says "Insert CD" 2. Quit the game temporarily by pressing Esc 3. Go to File > Change Disc > ISO and select a different ISO, the screen goes back to Monster Rancher 2 4. Go through the dialogue until it says "Insert Monster Rancher 2 CD" 5. Quit the game again, go to File > Change Disc, then select Monster Rancher 2 ISO
so i've found the change disk option, but the shrine girl always said only authorized ima trainer, i already at 9th rank, iam not even allowed to produce henger/golem
i've solved the problem, i thought it should be input .bin file while the girl said to change the disc, but the truth we should put .cue file, thats for psx cd, how about other cd like music or film, which file type should we use? do u know it?
Yes, there is only 1 feather per game. After you get your first Phoenix, you can get additional ones from the Shrine with the right CDs The Phoenix never comes back after it flies away
Oh i see a comment below me Good nature Phoenix from the shrine (DX) Title: IPCC Artist: Sama Worst nature Phoenix from the shrine (will be hard to get it to Good nature) Title: Hg Artist: mHz
@@growlie2676 Phoenix's start off with a 90 base nature, unless you do some combining. Because of their base nature being at 90, the lowest you can go is down towards Neutral Nature, making it hard to have a bad natured Phoenix and have the ability to learn Flame Cannon. The only way would be to scum the Phoenix's nature down as much as possible, and combine with another bad or worst natured monster. This should lower the base nature of the Phoenix down to a reasonable number, it also helps if you have Joker disc chips which can lower the nature by -50.
@@Stardust_Wyvern I actually figured that out on my own through experimenting. But Zaxby actually got bad natured and learned all its moves except Fire Wave.

If you're talking about Joker techniques, they have very few techniques, 1 for each Errantry except Parepare. Papas: Death Cutter Mandy: Death Smash Torble Sea: Death Energy Kawrea: Death Final After you learn all of them, Errow (the guy at Errantry) will say you won't learn anymore techniques no matter which Errantry you choose.
All joker skills seems to be very powerful also! Feel like playing him again! :( but i bet only INT training can be soaring hogh for joker as other stats will be chalannging to train, isnt he
Int and Skill will be soaring high. Other stats are OK except for speed. The real challenge is Jokers have the lowest lifespan in the game, so you won't have as much time to train them compared to monsters like Phoenix and Pixie
@@teawch my bad, I got it mixed up. I've been looking at breeding manipulation. Does same pure breed or say cross breed parent A and Parent B work or does it have to be a mixture of both? I'm guessing it doesn't work since combing two of same monster doesn't yield a great response.
@@crankyboiy Same breeds for both parents work like Zuum + Zuum combination or Zuum/Suezo + Zuum/Suezo combination Dadge will only say "This one is all up to you" no matter what the stat order is. However, the stat order calculations under the hood still apply, so a combination with 6 stat matches will yield higher stats than the same combination with no stat matches
Yes, you can combine a Sueki Suezo with anything No, the resulting monster will not lose lifespan from combining because lifespan is dependent on the monster's breed, not the parent monsters' lifespans
1. Get to 7th rank or above (win 1 Major 4 tournament) 2. Have a monster with at least 90 fame on the ranch 3. You will receive a doll in the mail. For example, this CD will give you a Worst natured Phoenix

This CD will give you a Good Phoenix that can be turned Bad:

if I remember correctly, my phoenix was immortalized because it became a statue since we win some legend cup or something.
@@pandegarakatitan5229 Yes, there are 2 more Phoenixes: Cinder Bird and Blue Phoenix
Your memory is quite good for a game you played 20 years ago
Cheers for the time and effort it takes to do these videos, just curious though if you don’t care about the nature what do you replace this with? Or do you just continue with the drug training? Also playing on DX does this affect things? Would love to see update videos using DX. Once again cheers!
If you don't care about nature, replace the jelly routine with the NO+HD/ML+LD routine.
Monsters have 100 weeks less lifespan on the DX, so it will be harder to get the stats up, but maxing stats is still doable
hello, i cant seem to get a neutral nature phoenix using 2 worst nature suezos. I always get best nature. Is it not applicable in the Dx version?
It's not applicable on the DX because every monster's nature gets reset to the base nature after combining. In the case of Phoenix, the base nature is 80 (Best)
@@teawch i see, thank you very much, :)
Since Phoenix didn't technically "die" can I get a new fire feather in the Phoenix statue?
No you can't
I think for MR2 DX you can enhance the mocchi part by using No Rest + Magic Bananas (DX) not sure how well it would work for the 1st phoenix.
Wtf, i used to play this game all the time growing up and never saw this expedition thing 😧
You missed out on half of the game's content. Now that you learned about expeditions, you can enjoy the other half of the content
I don't think it is impossible, with some Great on the Drills and reset to get better stats when competing for the Fire Wave, I would have completed it.
we can get another fire feather after phoenix last flight? strange we can't get mock after this!
You can always get a new Phoenix from the Shrine, so there is no need to get another Fire Feather
Losing to the Centaur has no effect on your monster's lifespan
@@teawch thankyou so, but this strategy is faster with ff and 2 worst monsters than looking for a bad phoenix! I'm training a mocchi kato to give a push up in the status

Phoenix is one of the best and powerful monster in that game
Damn many people people called monster rancher is such tool and you just have a big patience to play this game, and i thought it was just like pokemon but no it really feels like adopting a Pet(Monster) and raise it
thanks for the guide i want to play this game again
Dude I forgot to get my phoenix into "neutral" nature, and I'm trying to combine it with worst nature monsters, but it keeps going out as "good" nature, is there any way to get it into neutral or to do the same but using a "good" nature phoenix?
Yes, a Phoenix born with Good nature can be turned Bad using the Sweet Jelly routine at 6:47
Only some Phoenix (not all) born with Best nature cannot be turned Bad
@@teawch Thank you bro!
I dont know why my monster always die at 3 years even I full take care of him after drill I rest but why they cant have long lifespan like yours even your monster train really hard and less rest
It's because of stress. You need Mint Leaves
you deserve a jar of cookies.
Can you do the same method like Mocchi or Jill since these two have similar stats like Phoenix?
Yes, you can use this same method for Jill, but this is mainly because Jill has the same life type as Phoenix (called Type 3, which has a long childhood)
For Mocchi, you might have to use less Paradoxine. Or use a Mocchi with a sub-breed that has a Type 2 life type (like /Dragon or /Tiger), since life type is determined by the sub-breed.
Detailed explanation:
Paradoxine increases Pow and Ski in exchange for a 10% decrease in Spd and Def each week.
@@teawch But baby is also allowed as well?
Alright, I understood.
Yes, baby is allowed
all those hard work and money just to fckin leave you. sound like my ex
Just a heads up for those with DX. No matter what you use for fodder the nature will always be best x x
Though in DX you can shrine a Blue Phoenix that starts with Worst nature.(It can also shrine with like 1350 stat total) Is that satisfactory as a replacement? I wouldn't be surprised if there's some other element that would interfere though.
The caveat to that is you need to battle said monster to unlock it since it's a boss monster. And it's really rare x.x
@@serenastieveling Album: Hg Artist: mHz gives you a bad Phoenix, although it's starting stats is low, its lifespan is 410, larger than usual Phoenixes which is 350. Also, it's already start with Fire Twist.

You're so great man
i really wonder can we use shrine for getting monster from cd if we play at android emulator?
You probably can. I haven't played on any Android emulators, but it should be similar to PC in some way.
As a reference, here's how I do it using ePSXe on PC:
1. Go to Shrine, go through the dialogue until it says "Insert CD"
2. Quit the game temporarily by pressing Esc
3. Go to File > Change Disc > ISO and select a different ISO, the screen goes back to Monster Rancher 2
4. Go through the dialogue until it says "Insert Monster Rancher 2 CD"
5. Quit the game again, go to File > Change Disc, then select Monster Rancher 2 ISO
hmm i cant find change disc in epsx android version, i'll check another way later, hope i found it
so i've found the change disk option, but the shrine girl always said only authorized ima trainer, i already at 9th rank, iam not even allowed to produce henger/golem
Have you participated in IMa vs FIMBA battle yet? That's the battle that unlocks Henger
i've solved the problem, i thought it should be input .bin file while the girl said to change the disc, but the truth we should put .cue file, thats for psx cd, how about other cd like music or film, which file type should we use? do u know it?
So wait, is there only one feather per game and save file or something? Also, does the phoenix ever come back?
Yes, there is only 1 feather per game. After you get your first Phoenix, you can get additional ones from the Shrine with the right CDs
The Phoenix never comes back after it flies away

this game was hard when kid
Right now I'm having trouble getting my Phoenix bad natured.

I love joker in particular due to his amazing skills. But nvr found any tips to get all the skills! Hahaha
If you're talking about Joker techniques, they have very few techniques, 1 for each Errantry except Parepare.
Papas: Death Cutter
Mandy: Death Smash
Torble Sea: Death Energy
Kawrea: Death Final
After you learn all of them, Errow (the guy at Errantry) will say you won't learn anymore techniques no matter which Errantry you choose.

@@crankyboiy Same breeds for both parents work like Zuum + Zuum combination or Zuum/Suezo + Zuum/Suezo combination
Dadge will only say "This one is all up to you" no matter what the stat order is. However, the stat order calculations under the hood still apply, so a combination with 6 stat matches will yield higher stats than the same combination with no stat matches
I know this vid is old but can you combine a Seiko Suez with syuff? Do things lose years?
