Thanks, and yes, that radio does have plenty of heat to deal with, so this helps a little bit with that also like you say and draws a little less current from the power supply also.
Boy, I had the silver eagle D-104 and the Golden Eagle D-104. Sold them both long ago. I should have kept them. Ordered my Blue lamps from the company you talked about and should be here next week some time. Looking forward to the lamps. 73 Larry, de WU3D
Very nice! The only blue LED I found was on Amazon and wow it is way to dark so I took another approach. I ordered cool white led's then ordered new material for the blue diffuser and it turned out really nice. Im also going to research som blue led's like the ones you are using. I love the Drakes. I use mine all the time. TR-3, TR-4 and TR-4C.
A couple of Kenwoods I worked on recently had blue tinted rubber boots that go over the light bulbs. I might have to replace the bulb on mine with an LED at some point.
The LED on the VFO side looks like an improvement. I don't think I would do it for the metering side of mine though. I have a hard enough time seeing the FRONT meter faces now with the current back lighting. I don't think this improves too much on that issue. That is, illumination on the meter faces but that's much more of a problem to do if not impossible.
Very nice I just the blue LED's on eBay they should arrive this weekend can't wait to install them... Your setup looks nice Love the D-104 with the chrome base.
RadioHamGuy Oh yeah for sure ! I also have a mint Kenwood 830s that I use most the time. Hey, I installed those blue lamps...wow ! what a difference !! Thanks for the heads up on D.A. Buska Engineers !
Ok on the 830, I have never owned one but remember operating them many years ago at some of our field day operations. They seemed like a great radio. Ok on the blue lights, they just look nice I think. My cameras sure don't seem to like that color though, it sure does not come out good on camera, video that is.
I have a question for you, I want to run a 12 vdc fan to help feep the finals cooler. Should I install it with the fan sucking air out or blowing air in ? It will be mounted on the top of the cage above the finals
RadioHamGuy very good. Also When I take the top off my Drake tr-4c I can see the bearings on the vfo shaft. Can I use synthetic motor oil to lube them if applied with a artists paint brush ?
I am not for sure on the type of grease or oil you would want to use for that, I don't want to give you wrong information so you might want to do a little more research on that.
RadioHamGuy Yes I did and found out that wb4*** uses motor oil. I ended up using Castrol full synthetic just a few drops on the bearings and the screw drive.
enjoy all the mods you do have a drake R-4A & T-4x tried to buy the power supply from The Heathkit Shop is closed if you go to there site thanks very much 73 KS4WW John
You are my hero. I had that radio in high school and early college years. Good times!
I replaced mine with leds and besides the nice blue glow, it does remove some heat from the radio. I just love your organized room. nice video.

Glad to see you got a clip-on mic.

Another interesting video Larry. Hope the winter has been kind to you.
Nice mod, after just bringing my TR4 back to life, I may do the same, thanks for the info Larry.

That is a D-104 Silver Eagle from 1976, got it new about the same time I got that radio new, my very first HF station.
Nicely done. Have you ever thought of doing a video on neutralizing the finals?
When they faiil the "failing is shorted," unlike a bulb that "fails open." The best practice is to insert a pico-fuse in series with the LED.
Very nice display , I may do the same to my TR 4.... 73
Beautiful job.
Did same w my Swan 500, looks much better. I have var-color LEDs too where I may change color at will. Try!
Makes it light a darker blue same as the TR-5 and TR-7 models.
Larry, just wondered do you still have your Drake TR-4cw ? The newer vids dont show the Drake rig.
Yes, I still have all the Drake equipment, it will be hard to part with that stuff!

Looks good, beautiful conversion

You will want it to suck air out of the radio and not blow air in directly.
