Difficulty Select - At the title or intro screens, hold Select then press (Bomb, Shoot) 10 times. This takes you to a screen where you can choose between "Hard Human" and the default "Normal Dog". Repeat the code once more to add "Super Mania" to the possible selections. Then, do the code still once more to unlock "God of the Game". Once you have your preferred difficulty selected, perform a soft reset to exit this screen.

This game is a 10 when it released in 1989. Great graphics no slowdown, perfect controls, good music, good sound effects, and a good balance difficulty.

Maybe the best vertical shooter released in 1989. Still looks and plays well to this day.

PCEのコンパイルシューター最高峰ですね。
サウンドもスゴかった。細胞ステージの曲と、ラストのドラム炸裂が大好きでした！
ラストの中ボスメドレーは辛かった。骸骨出し入れ野郎wに何度泣かされたことか(T_T)
今のに比べれば楽なんでしょうけど、もう動体視力がアカンです(= =) 笑
懐かしいなぁ昔よくやったのを思い出した。PCエンジンのソフトは名作が意外と多かった希ガス
リリース前のテストプレイで「これ、おっぱいぱいに聞こえませんか？」って話にならなかったのかね。
これのステージ2のbgmは最高です。
Love this game, stuff blows up nicely, some of the best visuals, awesome tracks, and at times more crap on screen than you can shake a stick at. It's funny, I used to be able to beat this in one sitting with maybe 2 or 3 ships...Now I can't get past the 6th stage. I should note that I don't recall getting through the first stage on this diff. level... Bravo.

Google's compression for UA-cam seems to have kind of messed with the frames and color recognition. Oh well. Looks like a great shoot em' up. I definitely am enjoying some of this music it offers.

THEN YOU PRESS I AND II.
THEN PRESS I THEN RAPIDLY PRESS SELECT UNTIL THE SCREEN 1 APPEARS.
THEN HOLD I AND II WITH PRESSING START TO BEGIN WITH STORY MODE. THANKS!!!

I think I actually prefer this game over its spiritual successor, Space Megaforce on the SNES (aka Aleste on SFC). The Hudson/Compile team-up here really produced a gem of a game.
THIRD IS MY SCORE 12,738,010. LAST SPECIAL POWER SHIELD AND LAST WEAPON IS MULTI GUN. I SUPPOSE TO USE IT'S UP TO WAVE. I ALSO UNDEFEATED BOSS FIGHTS AND FINALE BOSS. I'M SO UNEXPECTED TO PLAY LIKE THAT!!! YEHHEY!!! WELL DONE MYSELF!!!

It's interesting the compromises done to fit the PC Engine limited amount of sound channels. There are voices which is rare on hucard games but on other hand no weapon sound, and it seems that to get higher than usual quality music they had to reduce as much as possible the explosion sound quality which sounds quite bad admittedly. Anyway good game but I tend to prefer Super Star Soldier which has better pace.
I USE TO CHEAT TO UNLOCK STORY MODE FROM AREA 0 UP TO 9 WITH 10 BOMBS AND 10 GOLDEN LIVES.
Wait , the music is the same as Blazing Lazers ? Did they recycle music between the games back in the day ?

Super Aleste was a spiritual sequel to Gunhed, it was developed by the same team at Compile. Both absolute classics.

@@waltersobchak7275 man, you really need to research before comment, the previous user already said this, Gunhed, is the original title for the Japanese release, the developers/publishers changed the name to Blazing Lazers, for the outside of Japan release
