From a fellow MEDWAY TOWNIE that lived on Dartmoor for 15yrs was nice to be back in the old neighbourhood, .I walked and camped all over the moor in my time , Thanks for the trip down memory lane . Enjoy the rest of your holiday .
Nice one Gavin, lovely spot to camp despite the wind, great views across the moors. The Hex Peaks do stand up well to a bit of wind. At least it was nice and dry even though a bit chilly, temperatures dropped here too , frost yesterday and this morning ! Enjoy the rest of your holiday...👍👍
Hiya Barney it was a great video but sorry to see yet another rough nights sleep. Amazing location you had and incredible views. The marines story was funny that would have instantly stopped my flow and had to blame the cold weather when the others appeared near you 😂😂
Cheers Lee, hope you're well. Them marines are sneaky so and so's! Thanks as always for watching, despite the challenges, it was still a great experience, can't wait to get back 👍
I loved my Dartmoor camp, my weather was horrendous, though. That was a cracking view 👌 Shame about your nights sleep though. The marines were probably surrounding your tent while you slept 🤣🤣 Nice one G, enjoyed this mate. Lee
Hi Lee, yeah it seems that more often than not the weather is challenging on the moor. It pays to be prepared for the worst. Stunning place though and I can't wait to return. I got a new found respect for the marines on that adventure. But if they were 5 seconds later it would have made for an awkward encounter with my pants down! 👍
Nice one m8 brilliant spot you had there, and the views were excellent. I'm glad you survived the night in the hex peak. they do well in bad weather, I did laugh when you said about the commando lads turning up, talk about timing 😂, keep up the good work m8 and lookforward to your next adventure 👍 🙏
I love watching your videos from that part of the world Gavin, I've never really explored the South West. Great views mate, makes me want to get down there..! Cheers, Paul 🙏🏻
Hi Paul, hope you're well. Glad you enjoyed the video, I'll be back down here at Christmas for another wild camp. I can heartily recommend making a trip down here. Not just for a mooch on the moors or coast path, the food is pretty darn good too! I refuse to leave Cornwall until I've had fish n chips, a pasty and a cream tea (jam first obvs!). All the best, look forward to catching up next month 👍
I'm still sulking about that Belgian 😅. What I couldn't quite get over when I was up on Dartmoor a couple of months back was the fact that I could pitch up at any time, and if people did come past, I had absolutely nothing to worry about in terms of 'getting rumbled'. Seems too good to be true! I'm glad you had a serene hilltop evening mate at least - shame about the lack of kip but it did look pretty vicious weather. Still love those Hexpeaks - the room you had to sit up and hunker down is amazing, all on one pole, and it stayed up where expensive MSRs probably would have caved in! Also love that smock Barney - is it the Vardag Anorak? Very smart! 👌
Cheers Rich, sorry for teasing you with the beer! Yeah it did feel weird knowing that you could pitch up camp with no trouble. I still found myself sitting around for an hour. It got to 3pm and I thought, what am I doing, I'm allowed to camp here! The Hexpeak was awesome, it handled that wind fine and had tonnes of space. I didn't even bother to use the guylines. The only issue that I was mindful of was the force of the wind pushing the pole down in to the soft ground. I used half a tennis ball at either end of the pole to help spread the weight and that seemed to work fine. The smock is indeed the Vardag in the light green. This holiday has been its first outing and first impressions are very good. It's not listed as being waterproof (I don't think Fjallraven promote much of their kit as being waterproof?), but it has worked well in some heavy showers up in the moors and I like that you can wax it for extra protection. This is actually a bit of an experiment to replace an old Rab pertex jacket and see if I can move away from the modern plastic-y pertex/goretex fabrics. So far so good, but time will tell! Thanks as always for checking out the video Rich, all the best 👍
Cheers matey, humble apologies too as I thought I was subbed to you, but have just remedied that misdemeanor. I can thoroughly recommend a trip to the moors, it's stunning country and a great place to practice those map reading skills 👍
@barneysbimbles 've had this happen before where l think l'm a social media friend/ subbed etc but because you can see someone posting in a platform's outdoorsy groups you think you are, but aren't...Don't know if that makes sense or not😄

Thanks Steven, glad you enjoyed it. Which tors did you favour for camping? 👍
Yeah... That was a bit breezy! Then to have the Royal Marines ghost out of nowhere. Very cool my friend 🤠
Ha ha breezy indeed and those marines scared the life out of me! 👍

Well that’s a familiar haunt for me. I walk on Dartmoor year-round and have enjoyed many a camping adventure there. Glad you got a clear night.
