    Is there anything as relaxing and satisfying as mixing and swatching new watercolours? Love it!
    I’ve only played around with Daniel Smiths more specialty colours like the primatek and their more interesting mixes like moonstone but I think I might have to invest in the primaries after watching this. They’re just so freaking beautiful!

    I am sooo excited for my primateks to arrive. After watching this, I want the primaries too! Those colors are out of this world! I LOVE how bright they are. Looking at some of Brenda Swensons latest artworks using both sets (Primery 6 and Primatek 6 set) has one thinking differrent. Ordered both to put in my new Santa Fe 12 half Pan Brass Travel Box. They deserve a happy home. Enjoyed the Demo thx.

    Thanks! I now can't wait to buy some. It was lots of fun watching your reactions. OH, BTW: in someone's video online they said to shake the tube before opening it for the first time. They said that the additives often settle at the opening end...or something like that. You might want to give that a try.

    • @AndiDesigner
      @AndiDesigner  6 років тому +1

      Thanks for the comment. Some of the tubes I got are too small to shake, they’re just too full to move, if you know what I mean... lol 😆

    You've probably found out by now, but here's a tip for those bursting-out-of-the-tube colours... I use a cocktail stick or a matchstick to get as much as I can from the lid and around the thread and transfer it to a piece of paper, and will use that first... Then I get a damp cloth and wipe the thread clean and I rinse the cap on water. If I don't do this, the cap just gets stuck on the tube. It's a bit annoying but the up side is, you know that your tube is full :)
    When Andi met Danny 😂 Subbed because I like the way you played with the colours rather than be formulaic...

    Thank you Andi... I know during your video you keep wondering how to avoid a tube of paint from oozing out more than you intend. I don't know the answer to that but this may help you if you havent figured it out already. They sell empty watercolor paint tins, the best i think are magnetic and the individual pans can be filled with your tube paints, let dry 24 hrs. and use as a usually watercolor paint tin... especially when using Daniel Smith paints the paint releases quickly with water, But get a non magnetic pan for each of the two varieties of tigers eye because it is magnetic also

    • @AndiDesigner

      Thank you. I found that squeezing them on the sides from the bottom actually works to suck the paint back in.....but upon first opening, squirtage is inevitable....just just gotta deal with it. Lol! Thanks for your comment 💕

      I wouldn't do this with mineral-based paints like the Primateks, since they are hard to rewet once dry.

    When tubes are over filled like that I hold the base of the tube between thumb and forefinger and pull down at the corner it sucks back in.

    love the reaction, so many ooh's and ahhs hahah I love it!
    I'm probably still gonna stick to cheaper brands like holbein and mijello, but their primatek line and unique colors like moonglow are to die for. Might try DS for their primatek ones; amazonite amethyst and piemontite is already in my bucketlist :)
    Kinda weird that your piemontite looks like orange-y burnt sienna, whereas it looks like redish brown on the jane blundell and other google searches.

    • @seraby7151
      @seraby7151 6 років тому

      also, I wonder if you can mix hematite and amethyst to make something similar to moonglow, cause that would be a money saver :)

    • @AndiDesigner
      @AndiDesigner  6 років тому +2

      If you want to mix Moonglow, here are the colours and you can make it; Anthraquinoid Red, Ultramarine Blue and Viridian :)

    • @glorioskiola
      @glorioskiola 5 років тому +1

      cloveraby amethyst is very expensive. You can get the moonglow in a stick from USA on-line art supply stores, like Jerry’s Artarama, Cheap Joe’s, . . All the Daniel Smith sticks are about $8.50, but not all the colors come in sticks. You can break the sticks into pieces and put them in a pan, and rewet just like other pan watercolors.

  • @selfiopath1982
    @selfiopath1982 6 років тому +1

    This review is a bit misleading when it comes to the mixing ability of primatek colors. The primatek greens, for instance, are gorgeous stand out colors, but go haywire when you mixing them with primary or secondary colors to create different shades of green. They just make mud! The summary of this video should be like this: the primateks are gorgeous colors that are meant to be used strait out of the tube only. To understand such things the reviewer needs to be a bit more professional watercolorist rather than just someone who loves to buy paint and go Wow! I just want to warn people who watch this video from the wrong purchase

    • @AndiDesigner
      @AndiDesigner  6 років тому +3

      Selfio ' I wholeheartedly disagree. The greens or any other of the colours mix beautifully and have never once made “mud” for me. As shown in my video, people can see for themselves how they mix, I let the greens and purples deep into each other and again, I found them to mix beautifully. If you find they make mud, I look forward to you making your own video showing which colours mixed together create “mud”. Thanks for your comment. and I am a professional artist/interactive designer, FYI.

    • @selfiopath1982
      @selfiopath1982 6 років тому

      Wait a minute! I never said primateks make mud when mixed with the other primateks. The primateks produce gorgeous granulating mixes, but they can be disastrous with some convenience mixes and primaries outside of Primatek palette. And that's important to understand and make clear when reviewing the product.

    • @AndiDesigner
      @AndiDesigner  6 років тому +2

      Selfio ' I have mixed them with primaries outside of the Primatek palette, and they have never made mud. I don’t see a problem at all. I am about to post a video where I use green Apatite with primary yellow on leaves and it makes gorgeous mixes. I also mix the yellow and orange with the Primatek green in leaves on a masculine-coloured wreath monogram painting, which I will post after I give it to my Dad for his birthday

    • @BallooNeccesities
      @BallooNeccesities 6 років тому +6

      +selfio' Even according to the Daniel Smith website primatek paints play well with other paints...mabe you are mixing across color temperature and getting mud?

    When I open new tubes I make sure to hold the tube over a pan before the lid unscrews so any paint that oozes does so into the pan! Then I use a toothpick to push the left over paint in cap into pan. Very little waste
