I just got a fake Super Mario 64 off of eBay. The way I was able to tell was the engraved “Nintendo” on the back. The dot on the “i” was a circle, which means it’s fake. Nintendo dots the real “i” with a square

Same happened to me. I bought it 1 year ago, and only now I realised it's fake. That's probably why the game won't save. This also means you really can't trust the sellers reputation. The seller had like 97% positive responses.

Very useful info. Thank you, it's just what I was looking for.
I do have a concern, though. Maybe I'm just used to working with more sensitive equipment, but not grounding yourself electrically or wearing gloves seems likely to damage sensitive electronic components - like one of those boards.

Super helpful. Thank you! Just want to say I'm not so sure on the screw one because I've seen some with everything else looking AOK but flat screws. I think some cartridges are authentic but have had those screws replaced for some reason or another (which to some might make it un-authentic I suppose).

The dot above the i on the back where it says Nintendo should also be a square, not a circle.
Thankfully my PAL conker's bad fur day is legit (it's near new condition with the manuals etc) wasn't cheap. The boards inside should say MX, plus batch number next to the Nintendo imprint. Weight is another thing, most my games (perfect dark, zelda oot, goldeneye etc are about 92g, conker's is about 113g, repo's are lighter.

Another thing I've read: Look at the spelling of “Seal of Quality” on the front label. Most counterfeit games capitalize the “O”.

great video! thank you! i have a couple questions hopefully you can answer.as for the imprinted number.does it have to start with a "0"? because mine has 34,54,31, or 51 ( i cant quite tell which numbers they are) but it DOES NOT start with a 0. and at the bottom where you should see the numbers inside. it looks to me(hard to see) but it looks to me like its p-p1p . i cant quite see the bottom of them so it could be B-B1B. last question. if its a fake. does that mean the quality of the video of the game is worse or anything. the reason i ask this is because this game (goldeneye 007) is really poor quality with the graphics (not how it used to be back in tha day.) and yes i have everything to make the quality better. just trying to figured out why the quality is so bad. if its the game,or the system. thats what ive narrowed the problem down to , since i have done everything else to solve it. thank you so much if you answer this for me.

And depending which pcb they used to make the cart it can damage the N64 in the long run like running more voltage than needed and the PCB being too thick so it bends the pins
