A huge thank you to Mr. Howe, so very interesting. Sharing his stories was both gracious and appreciated. I'd like to see Gibson do a similar run of Les Paul Customs.
Yes was the first concert I went to with my own money. A magical night with The Eagles as the opening act followed by The Edgar Winter Group and finally Yes to finish off the night. All for $5.00 and free parking. Wonderful to hear the story of Steve Howes guitar journey and the history of this guitar in particular. Thankyou Trogly.
Saw the same tour in Vancouver... I think that was the first concert with Alan White after Bruford quit.. Jon said something about Alan being with them for just three days... Have the ticket receipt from the booking, handwritten ..Eagles Edgar Winter and @ 7:30 .. princely sum of $3.50
I was only 9 years old back in '79 when my older brother and sister could see Yes live. They couldn't take me because I was too young and I remember crying lol. Fast forward to the '91 Reunion tour, I saw them live and what a treat that I would never forget. Steve Howe was and still is a fantastic guitarist and what a cool interview with him. He seems to have so much class as a person. I'm sure you were ecstatic about how well the interview went.
Austin, getting The Les Paul serial # 26 that Steve Howe had is amazing by itself, but getting Steve Howe on your channel is unbelievable! The exchange between you and Steve around the fine tuners was very interesting. The secret Steve Howe signature on the back of the headstock really clinched the authenticity for me. Also to hear that Steve shipped a guitar to Alison Krause's son was again a special moment. I had never heard of a quad pickup Les Paul until today! Steve didn't like it, but still has them and would sell them! He seemed to say that the Les Paul Jr was all you need. Simplicity just like a telecaster. Thank you Austin for sharing! Right on!
I got the Impression that Steve Howe knew Les Paul fairly well. and not just passing acquaintances. after all a lot of Rock and Roll musician's had Interactions with Les Paul.
Steve once said in an interview that he loved Charlie Christian because his playing was always “happy” and upbeat. For me that’s how I feel when I listen to Steve’s playing. I think I’m in a minority of people who absolutely love the “Drama” album, Steve’s playing on that always puts a smile on my face. Also love “The Steve Howe Album” and his playing with Asia. A brilliant episode Trog. Really liked how you edited the shots from the book as they came up during the conversation. This was a fascinating listen. Loved hearing Steve’s guitar (Wondrous) stories.
As a long time proghead, I am jealous of you having a conversation with one of the OG prog guitarists. Very cool that he took some time to give you an interview. Maybe we should call it Progly's Guitar Show today!
I saw Yes in the mid 70s for the Yessongs Tour, the stage was layer out like a garden with a big ladybug in the center. The ladybugs wings opened and the drums were there. It was a fantastic concert, one of the best concerts I ever saw! That includes seeing Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Grand Funk Railroad, and the like. Steve Howe was incredible, his interactions with the crowd was amazing!
Steve Howe is absolutely correct about each guitar having it's own personality. and for a musician to be able to play their full repituare of their music. it could require them to have a number of guitars to reproduce all those sounds. it's so AWESOME that he has such a wonderful strong British accent, especially after all these years. and high marks to Austin for asking all the most correct questions. no doubt this was a great conversation/interview. as always Trogly never fails to amaze me.
How awesome that you got to speak to and interview one of the very finest guitarists to ever walk the planet! He's such a nice guy. I've met him a couple times and he has always been super cool! This interview also reminded me that I've got a set of his guitar strings. His guitar tech gave them to me after he swapped them out during a load in for an Asia show back in 2019. I cherish them!
I agree wholeheartedly! I got Steve’s autograph twice after shows & he is a really nice guy! The second time I met him, I was so overwhelmed that I forgot to ask for a photo with him. (This was before cell phones had cameras.) Yep, had my camera right in my pocket & totally forgot about it. I was so effin nervous to be in the presence of my favorite guitarist of all time. Thank goodness I have the memories of that night & a CD cover with the entire band’s autographs! It’s one of my prized possessions.😎✌️
Steve is one of the greats in rock history and he’s mostly overlooked when they mention the greats, this dude blazes,I’ve listened to Yes all those years ago,Asia, and pother works of his,his personality is on another level and his knowledge of actually knowing of what was done to the guitars and who did it ,whether it was him or someone close to him, great interview.
Very classy interview both you and him. I like the way you let him speak and didn't say more than you needed to. Shows maturity and emotional intelligence on your part... well done! Steve is a proper old-school Londoner, says what he means and means what he says... no b/s. Great job BRAVO
I've had a very small handful of interactions with Steve Howe, dating back to around '74 or '75, and the latest being just a couple of years ago. All around I have to say that Steve was a very friendly and decent chap. I'm so happy for you Austin and thank you for presenting this chat for we viewers.
The best interview of an incredible guitarist. Saw Steve with Yes on the Close to the Edge Tour, then again with the Tales of the Topical Oceans, and finally once in 2020. I also saw him with two tours of ASIA. Just an awesome guitarist. Thanks for having him on your show and you did an awesome job.
In 1982 my college roommate had a ‘79 strat that he’d gotten Steve Howe to sign. I’d heard Yes but didn’t know who he was. But, because he signed a guitar, I started following his career and have been blown away ever since. What a great guy to just dive into the guitar’s history. Thanks for sharing this!
Trogs! This has to be my number one episode of your guitar show!!!incredible. Have loved Steve Howe since the early 70’s. Fantastic segment and so satisfying to hear all this from the Legend, himself! Hats off Trogly and thank you, MR. HOWE!!! Please, more segments like this one. Five stars!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My Dad bought me a Gibson Grabber bass straight out of the factory. Now I wonder how he pulled that off. We were from Kalamazoo and he was a country musician. Played everything. He musta' had some pull somewhere.
Very good Austin. Excellent interview with the great Steve Howe. When he was talking towards the end about classical guitars, I’m surprised he didn’t mention his contribution to Queen’s Innuendo. Yep he played the marvellous Spanish guitar part on that song too. Also glad he mentioned one of my favourite Yes songs Turn of the Century 😉😉
If you wanna see what a genius he is listen to "the gates of delirium" from the album yesshows. It's like nothing you will have heard. A totally unique style that he somehow mastered just for one song. Its been blowing me away since i first heard it in 1988
Great interview. It was good that Steve was allowed to speak without interruption and that that he was so open and remembered so much detail about so many individual instruments and developed on the questions. He still sounds pretty enthusiastic about guitars generally despite them being the 'tools of his trade' for a long time. I do associate him primarily with the ES 175 so it was cool to see and hear about the other types he has owned and used.
Grew up listening to Steve and my first live concert was a Yes concert in 1975. Talk about putting on a show! Music is and has been my life’s passion. Finally got to listen to this awesome Steve Howe interview, I'm huge Howe fan from late 60s. Love to hear him geek out about his style and inspirations. Thanks Trogly for doing this important bit of history!
Great Guitar Interview! Steve is really a nice guy but is known to have a bit of a temper at times. I pissed him off in 89 at Tower Records for AWBH tour when he signed my Close to Edge LP. I I asked him one too many times the name of a solo LP .. couldn't understand with his accent. Thanks!
I’m very excited for this episode because YES is my all time favorite band and I’m a huge Steve Howe fan. Steve is one of the best guitarist of all time. Thank you.

Loved this interview! Steve is one of the all time greatest. 175 guitar’s and remembers all the little details as well as remembering all his songs. Amazing mind. Genius!
That was a great interview Mr. Trogly! I have seen some version of YES (including Cinema and Union)14times. Of course a couple were with Trevor Rabin. Steve Howe always plays with passion and never disappoints. It's amazing how much detail he remembered after owning so many guitars. Thanks!
That’s a blazing solo! Yessongs has SO many killer tunes on it! My favorite is from Yours Is No Disgrace. That live version from Yessongs is just sick!😎✌️
Well done. What a document. You covered multiple books of information with asking the RIGHT questions. You really surfaced where Mr Howe is all about with instruments. Now we only need to listen to the songs to know what he is spiritually about. What stands out for midi guitarists is the part about roland and gibson midi guitars. Here is somebody who has toured his whole life and knows what works and what doesn't.
Loved hearing one of my guitar heroes. Thanks and congratulations on owning such a beautiful and well preserved guitar. Btw, I met Roger Fischer a few years back. He's living in Monroe WA. I also used to own a Martin Nancy Wilson signature model accoustic
Great interview style, Trogly. It’s a good talent that gets people to not just talk, but to tell their stories as they remember them out loud. And one of my pet peeves is when the interviewer constantly interjects and interrupts with their own story. I don’t care about the person who’s asking the questions, I’m curious about the person being interviewed. None of those problems here, and when you did talk besides just asking questions, it was more of a conversation between two people who have a common interest, and your in-depth knowledge definitely helps. Good vid!
Salutations Austin! Pretty great interview, you covered an awful lot of things during the interview and it was great information to learn. It’s regrettable that he had lost a solo recording that had gotten erased, I know what that is like, and it also happens sometimes when creating digital art as well, and we refer to it in the digital art context as “the agony of delete”, it happens more frequently than many people realise, and often it is very difficult to replicate, I imagine that it bothers him quite a bit, it’s so very frustrating to loose something like that, which you feel is such a great representation of your work. It’s so awesome that he still has the original tuning machines for The Les Paul, and also that he has the special set of four humbuckers from the quadraphonic Les Paul guitar, and also that he is willing to part with them, they would be super awesome to display next to The Les Paul. It would be very interesting to see Gibson produce an actual authentic Steve Howe Signature 175 or even a Signature The Les Paul, with the current technology that they have been using on other signature models. I really enjoyed this interview, and learning more about The Les Paul, now that you have refurbished it, it would be really grand if he paid you a visit and played the guitar again. Thanks again for the interview! Please have an excellent and awesome day! ☀️✨🎸
So happy to hear Steve say that you can find unique music in different guitars...Every guitar I pick up takes me somewhere different... some just respond as if they were a body prt, others I have to fight a little bit, but each relatioship will bring different riffs or licks... the music really does come from them.
Wow!! This is definitely historic to hear Steve's thoughts and insight to guitars and his take on his personal guitars..this is an awesome conversation..thanks for sharing 👏
!! Absolutely amazing interview !! Thank you for posting this. And thank you to the Great Steve Howe for giving us all, the time for this interview. Absolutley fabulous!
That's a hell of phone call. What a great opportunity...to actually speak to Steve Howe and get a bit of history, not just on "The Les Paul" but his other guitars... I've already sent a link to my brother. We'll done and thanks.
Roger Fisher of Heart smashed his The Les Paul onstage, the night he quit the band, there was footage of it in their Behind The Music episode. Awesome video, Trogly. Steve is my favorite guitarist ever.
What a great interview! Steve is a good guy, and it's so nice to see someone just willing to talk shop! I love this guitar, the color is great, The wood accessories are awesome, the gold hardware just WORKS with this color, I love the harmonica and TP6, the whole package is great. I have never had a harmonica bridge, but I ALWAYS run a TP6, not only on LP's but any tunomatic I have owned. Main reason is because I used to be an old Floyd/Kahler player (my 80's phase) so reaching for the fine tuners is "natural" to me. So when I got into LP's I went straight to the TP6. Even my old 6 post Strat has a bridge with fine tuners (handy with the locking tuners)
Always respected the man as a musician and I’m so pleased to finally become a fan! What a good dude! I could listen to you guys talk about guitars all day. Great episode Trogly, I’ve only watched a couple hundred so far and this is my favourite. Kia ora from New Zealand 🇳🇿
How cool! What a great interview. Steve sounds like such a down to earth dude! I picked up a 55 ES-175D on Christmas Eve, for $960. It had been damaged in 1965, then “fixed” with a plastic piece, and painted gray. It looks good, they did a good job, but it’s VERY funky! After they fixed it, it sat in the attic, til I bought it, almost 60yrs later. Aside from the damage and “fixes” its essentially an all-original 55 Gibson. Sounds great and that neck is just wonderful to play! But as good as it looks, as is, I do want to remove the gray and hope to find the original sunburst underneath.
This is one fun interview…my buddy Nick from Southern England would love this as he is from Bridport originally, and still within walking distance of the sea…
It's really awesome how much you can tell he's a gear head. He has a very good knowledge as to how these guitars work. Nowadays a lot of artists get the sig and have No idea what work goes into them or the mechanics behind them.
Whata fantastic video, to hear Steve share and take such sweet time, this is gold that only happens with music greats and complete gentlemen. Good job Trog!!!!
Wow! Great show. You’ve outdone yourself. Saw Yes twice, decades apart, Winterland in the early 70s and the Greek Theatre in the late 90s. A class act.
I'm sometimes critical of your videos, but this was a home run. Your questions and interactions with Howe were top-notch, and he obviously felt very comfortable speaking with you. Just an excellent job, Trogly.

That was a great interview Mr. Trogly! I have seen some version of YES (including Cinema and Union)14times. Of course a couple were with Trevor Rabin. Steve Howe always plays with passion and never disappoints. It's amazing how much detail he remembered after owning so many guitars. Thanks!
THAT, was one of the best interviews of one of my favorite guitar players I ever experienced! Thank you Austin! Good Job!
Glad you two got together for this most informative discussion. Favorite solo. Perpetual Change, starting at 8:23 from the Yessongs Live album.
This is great. What a cool guy to spend the time and be so open with you. Congrats!
sounded like you both had fun. thanks to each of you for sharing !
This is awesome I have never heard him talking before. Been listening to his music since the 70's. Seen them in the yearly 80's
Thanks!
Probably the best interview I have ever heard. Thanks!
Loved hearing one of my guitar heroes. Thanks and congratulations on owning such a beautiful and well preserved guitar. Btw, I met Roger Fischer a few years back. He's living in Monroe WA. I also used to own a Martin Nancy Wilson signature model accoustic
Thank you for sharing. Fantastic interview and stories.
definitely was not expecting this. this was an amazing interview.
Good vid!
Really couldn't have enjoyed this any more than I did! Super informed host, and Steve Howe is an international treasure! Thanks for posting this.
☀️✨🎸
So great to hear it directly from the source! Thank you
This was amazing!!! I wish you could do this with all the artist guitars you have.
So happy to hear Steve say that you can find unique music in different guitars...Every guitar I pick up takes me somewhere different... some just respond as if they were a body prt, others I have to fight a little bit, but each relatioship will bring different riffs or licks... the music really does come from them.
Austin, a really great show today. Now, there is no doubt as to the provenance of ol #26; what a beauty. I see it listed, but what a keeper...
Great interview. Thanks.
That's a hell of phone call. What a great opportunity...to actually speak to Steve Howe and get a bit of history, not just on "The Les Paul" but his other guitars... I've already sent a link to my brother. We'll done and thanks.
Excellent interview!😎✌️
I love these history videos! Amazing you got this call! Thanks again for sharing with the world!
Bravo, great interviewing job!
Didn't know Steve Howe was so personable! Friendly, expansive conversation. Probably the best Howe interview!
Whata fantastic video, to hear Steve share and take such sweet time, this is gold that only happens with music greats and complete gentlemen. Good job Trog!!!!
Excellent interview. Thanks for sharing.
Wow! Great show. You’ve outdone yourself. Saw Yes twice, decades apart, Winterland in the early 70s and the Greek Theatre in the late 90s. A class act.
Epic. Thanks to Trogly and the great Steve Howe. Cheers Steve!!
Wow! Thank you. That was one cool interview. Love Steve Howe
thanx for this, to be continued, hopefully...
What a great interview..I had no idea Steve was such a guitar nerd like most of us. Really fascinating. Thanks for this. 👍
Love Steve Howe's acoustic guitar in The Coil of Life , You And I.
I'm sometimes critical of your videos, but this was a home run. Your questions and interactions with Howe were top-notch, and he obviously felt very comfortable speaking with you. Just an excellent job, Trogly.
Fantastic interview Austin !! 👌🏻💯
Very cool interview! Hope there’s more down the road too!
Going for the One !!! Don't kill the Whale, Tomato, that's my favorite era for Yes,
SIHT, and that's the guitar that was all over it, FM !!!
Trog, for me mate, this is the best thing you've had on your show...
