I’ve pulled out the vintage (1970s-ish?) Mixmaster, bought 2nd hand 20 years ago, needing to continually make puddings for an ill family member. The mixer goes in and out of the garage every few years, as needed. I’m SO glad you mentioned this thumbscrew. Pretty sure that adjustment will solve my current issue with bowl-banging blades. Love that the Mixmaster can auto-rotate itself so well.
We recently got a MXF model from my mother-in-law, including the meat grinder and Blender attachment! it's in great condition and works really well. I also recently discovered that, if you move the handle on top sideways, it releases the beaters easily! very nifty
So glad you posted this video. I just purchased one of these at a vintage shop and this was a great tutorial on the features and proper use of this mixer.
Just bought this mixer with everything included, for 15.00. Glad to see this post, explaining operation of this vintage mixer and where to get parts if needed. Thank you....
thank you so much! i just bought a vintage mixmaster and i think i had the blades reversed, bc they kept banging the side of the bowl. glad you explained what goes where. these old mixers are fabulous and are so much better quality than cheap Amazon plastic knock-offs.
The advantage of the planetary mixer is that you usually don't need a different size mixing bowl to do smaller amounts. Planetary mixers have a raised dimple in the middle of the bowl which actually helps small amounts of ingredients such as egg whites stay in the path of the Beaters.
I just got a vintage Sunbeam Mixmaster off of eBay in the harvest gold. Model 1-7a and seems to be in good working order. Can't wait to try mixing something.
We have one of these with the dough hooks. The reason I am looking around about these machines is because I used it for bread dough, and while it did an excellent job, the amount of heat generated seemed a little much. But if they are designed for that I suppose its not really a concern. Thank you for sharing what you know about them. I will be shopping for the grinder and juicer attachments for ours.
I would be concerned if it seems to overheat working on dough. I may pick up one and came here wondering what it could handle.... think you answered me on that.
Yup those beaters are strong. I accidentally put the wrong beaters in and it bent one all gnarly. I was thinking of upgrading but I'm starting to love my mixer again 😊.
The Vintage Mixmaster Stand mixer brought back memories of my childhood. The most notable being that I ruined my Mom's Mixmaster Mixer by getting a spoon hung up in the beaters. I've never forgotten that mistake.
I think the beater release ( flipping the top handle down to release) has to be in the flipped down position then insert the beaters and raise the handle back up. I could be wrong, it's been a while since I had mom's old Sunbeam.
On my model there is a dark colored long narrow plunger sticking straight up on the top, front, left side. It looks like there's one in this demo. But that could be something else. So, you push that part down firmly and it ejects the beaters. But, I have a different model so that's how mine is designed.
I got one of these because I loved the way it looked and how it just felt but the first time I tried it it went everywhere and I made a mess. Thank you so much lmao💙💙
Hi I like that you do rice cooker recipes but I have the Aroma 8 cup rice cooker (I love it) and my question is will your recipes work on my aroma bc I see you mostly use pucks cooker which I don't have and don't want will you do more videos using your aroma please and thank you I subscribed.
Yes, the bowl should move on its own. The beater on the left side (if you're facing the mixer) should have a small plastic "button" on the bottom of the beater. If the height is at the right position, then it should provide enough tension so the "button" can spin the bowl. I had this model and I loved it. Got it in 1980 and it's still going strong, but my sister has it now.
@@fancynancy2134 I gave my Mixmaster to my mother (my sister has it now) because I wanted a mixer that could handle bread dough. The Mixmaster motor head does not have a lock, so for bread, it kept jumping up and down, and I felt it was going too fast on the slowest speed for kneading. I got a KitchenAid in 1989 (still working fine, as it was one of the last to be made with the Hobart specs). But the Mixmaster was fine for cakes and lighter mixtures. I really liked it but was disappointed it couldn't handle heavier doughs.
Nice to see another MMA (200 watt) in action. The Parents 1974 Harvest Gold version has been working great until just recently. A motor brush got stuck which caused it to stop unexpectedly. Opened it up, Cleaned it (Flour!), Unstuck the brush, and it's working again... Just need to find a decent Replacement Grease for the Gearbox and it should provide a great many more years of service.
@@ThirdStreetKitchen On the Touching the Bowl/Worn Beaters Front... Have you looked at the Mixers Adjustment Screw (where it meets the Stand) to put more pressure/weight on the Bowl and increase rotation speed?
Finished Cleaning/Regreasing my MMA a few days ago. Think I might have bent/damaged part of the Speed Control Module (Pin and/or a connecting part)... Anyone know of a good Source for Parts? Still "works" just doesn't increase speeds after 5.
Hello, does anyone know how to remove food coloring from this mixer ? I have tried baking soda, rubbing alcohol and peroxide, so far no luck. Thank you. Peace.

Hey y'all, I have just unearthed a vintage sunbeam mixer at my Dad's house. He said it was his grandma's and was maybe purchased in the 1950's. Does this mixer have a dough hook attachment or other attachments besides the common 'beaters'? The mixer still works very nicely and is a really neat piece. I would like to hold onto it if it's still working!
I have one with a light under it. The beaters hit the bottom of the bowl which I understand is normal but it is lightly scraping the metal bowl and is etching the metal bowl. Is this normal?
Not normal... There is an adjustment via machine screw visible when the mixer is raised, right where the pivot action is located on the inside. If its touching the bowl, then lengthen the amount of the machine screw until it isn't touching the bowl and then re-tighten the nut to keep it there. Hope this helps you! Mine doesn't have the light like yours. There must be various models of the make.
Make sure as Dustin said below to adjust it but also the rounded beater with the plastic tip is to be on the bowl side and adjust it so that the plastic just barely touches the bowl. The actual metal part should never touch it. The friction of the plastic on the glass turns the bowl.
mrmwman1 Ok. Thanks. I had to find the adjustment screw. It isn’t exactly like the other responder said. I just have to use an Allen wrench or screw driver to adjust the screw. There is no nut.
Thanks Daphne0206! That's why I tuned into this video, to learn how to release the beaters. Thanks for sharing! Third Street, if you could add the release of the beaters to your video, it would be appreciated. Thanks.
My late mom got that model the mma back in 1968 from the blue chip stamp catalog still works!!!!!
There is an adjustment thumb-screw in the hinge to move the height of the beaters so you probably wouldn't need to spin the bowl.

Exactly the video I needed! Thank you so much!
I got one at a thrift shop 3 bucks and all the attachments!!
Lol I just got one at the thrift shop for $4 I guess we were here for the same reason!
Thank you. You answered my question about the two different beaters.
Nice. Thanks for pointing out where the mma or service number is located
I just brought 1 at a yard sale for 5 bucks and it works great. Thank you so much this video 👍👍
prince151ful I bought one at the thrift store with both small & large bowls for $9
I exploded homemade butter all over myself and my kitchen trying out a vintage osterizer with the attachments. I should have filmed that. lol

monica11760 On this model the handle slides to the side and ejects the beaters.

Can someone please tell me how to mix the top handle. The handle on the machine is loose , and I don’t know how to tighten it.
Is this a stand or hand mixer? Doesn’t sound like the other sunbeams I’ve listened to

The recipes should work just fine in a larger rice cooker. The issue is only to adjust the quantity of ingredients to match the larger capacity unit.
How do you get the beaters to stay in
Marge Campbell they sort of snap in.
This is the beauty I have.
I have the same machine and used it once. I think my bowl moves when the beater is on. I will find out this weekend because I want to make a cake. 😂

The handle slides to o e side to release them.
Just bought this vintage mixmaster
Can’t finger out how to remove the mixing tools (blades)
Hi! The handle rotates down the side and releases the beaters, dough hooks, etc. 😉
I just have sunbeam mix master MM89C,
190 watts. Is it powerful enough to make a bread dough?
I’d think it might push the limit. But that would depend on how thick and heavy the dough is.
Does the beaters touches the bottom of the bowl?
yve rey Yes they do. They are supposed to turn the bowl but these are worn down a little where the plastic tips touch the bowl.
