Same with me, just picked up 7 cans today at Dollar Tree

@@olradguythese cans have lead and cadmium warning labels. It's probably due to the fact that these sardines are caught around China where they do heavy metal sea floor mining

I drain the brine and fill and drain the can with a cold water three times. It makes them healthier and better tasting. I then add lemon juice and extra virgin olive oil to them.

You could just buy ling oscar sardines in olive oil and tomato juice.

@@IllBushidoking oscar is overpriced and overrated. My favorite is the Season brand skinless and boneless from Costco. On sale it comes out to $1.33 per tin and they pack a lot of dines in them.

I buy Pampa sardines in 15 oz.cans a dollar tree these are large sardines about as big as canned mackerel, taste great best buy at $1.25 a can, it's jit & miss they sometimes have them in brine other times in tomato I like both, a really great value for a $1.25

Stop buying these, they contain heavy metals as labeled. They're from caught in China where they do unregulated seafloor mining for metals

The dollar tree sells these and they also sell canned tomatoes with okra and corn. If combined brine and all at a 1:1 ratio it tastes like Manhatten clam chowder but super healthy. I personally add frozen spinach and kale but regardless it is an epic healthy combo on a budget. 10/10 recommend trying if you are trying to eat welll.
It's important to use the brine tho imo as the nutrition is kept in tact. If you filter it like this video you get a fraction of the omega 3s. Got to incorporate the brine for full effect

oi, w'ot we do is save the brine and use it as fish stock for other things like fish soups or even cooking in rice.

These are bottom of the barrel sardines. You can get higher quality sardines at an affordable price at any grocery store.

I think you would enjoy the product a great deal more if you buy the Pampa sardines in the 15 oz cans and then removing the brine from the can by filling it repeatedly with cold running water until the water in the can is clear

You miss a lot of the nutrients if you drain the brine. I like to heat up the brine and add miso paste or soy sauce for a faux miso soup. Sometimes I just drink th brine as is.

@@jesusmywholehaschanged I understand what you are saying but remember that the brine contains an enormous amount of sodium!!!

@@arthurroizman4091 True. High sodium doesn't negatively impact me. Maybe you could dilute it with water and use it to make another dish. I just hate dumping it.

any detail on the origin & processing? there's been an outbreak of parasite worms for chinese sourced sardines in the news.

Wow I just bought these at the gas station for $2.29 plus tax. Still not bad for 11pm at night but I just realized mine is in tomato sauce. I was thinking water or oil 😭 P.S. I eat my sardines with my 3 month old baby kitty
