- Looking for a drum fan for your shop or garage? Sometimes bigger isn't better. I unbox and assemble both the DeWalt 24" Drum Fan and the DeWalt 30" Drum Fan. See to see which fan I kept and why.

Both fans are great at moving air and keeping the noise to a minimum. The 24" fan is a variable speed fan and can tilt 360 degrees. The 30" fan does not tilt and has 3 speeds.

I'm on the fence between buying the 24" or the 30". I'm trying to keep my uncovered patio (10' X 18') cooler and the mosquitoes at bay in the summer with temps between 80-90 degrees and high humidity. Fan noise is a MAJOR concern, I'd like to have conversations without too much fan noise. Which size would you suggest? Thanks in advance.
Hi, with your patio being close to the size of my garage, I would say the 24" for a couple of reasons. First, I did notice a buffering sound with the 30" fan, even on a slow speed. Second, I didn't feel the air flow as well, especially right in front of the fan. And third and probably my favorite part of the 24" fan is that it's a variable speed fan so you can dial in the speed you want. And it also tilts which is great if you want to direct the fan up towards the patio cover to blow away the heat (so I guess 4 reasons). If you do purchase one, I have links to them on Amazon. I would not go for a dewalt one you will be better off getting a lasko drum fan. Youll spend less and get better air flow.
This one from amazon is good. You can either mount it up on the celing or have it on the floor.

If your in a dry climate can also try a swamp cooler or their called evaporative cooler.
@@rWirthlin1983 I own 3 Lasko fans and use at my place of business. I was sent these two fans to review. After reviewing, I still like the 24" DeWalt fan. Plenty of air flow and I like the variable speed option.

I still have both in my shop right now. I started with the 24" fan for a few days and noticed the nice flow of air to keep me cool. Then I tried the 30" fan. That fan is definitely meant for a bigger space than mine. Even on high, I don't feel the flow of air as much as the 24" fan. I quickly switched it with the 24" fan. Got my 24 today. It is not loud at all, and moves alot of air 10 ft away from it. Should work great working under my lift. Also took it in my big shop, little underwhelming in there. Might be phsycological, but like it better in my smaller building. I will use it in both.
I enjoy my 24" fan too. Especially the variable speed option. My garage opening faces the morning sun. The fan is strong enough to blow the hot air hot and keep me feeling cool.

I thought that too. It's like a $20 microphone. Came in a set of two so a second person could be mic'd too.
Ironically, the wife and I had a discussion about the use of a fan in the shop. Thought it might work, okay, until the sanding happens. My thought was that I could blow some of the dust out the door of the shop; she won because she thought not. Looks like you were having plenty of air blown up your skirt. What 's up with the CT shirt; are we neighbors?

If you take the front cover off the big one you get way way better airflow with it. I own the bigger one and it sucks at blowing air. Till i took the front grill off. And very slightly very slight bend the curve a lil more on the blades. Now it blows so good itll make your wife jealous. Jk
I figured it was probably the bend in the blades, but probably designed for a bigger space.
I never understood why giant drum fans perform so poorly.
I think that maybe they were designed to be in bigger spaces, maybe like those giant ceiling fans you see in gyms sometimes.
