This is so meaningful to me now that my only son is serving our country. Prayers for all parents, who have children who are serving, that their child comes home safely. God bless and protect our kids.
this is a very moving song!! great hook the correlation of God giving his only son for us and having to lose your only child in a war !! very well written glory be to our father in heaven and God bless the American soldier.
I "discovered" this song a few days ago and have played it 100 times if I've played it once. How is this not all over the radio? This should be a mega hit! You folks really touched me with this beautiful song, thank you.
My friend turned me on to your music, this song in particular. Her brother Tito is featured in the video showcasing the soldiers. I simply cannot get enough of this song. It touches me to my core. The lyrics, the composition, the heart of the song, it is beautifully performed. I am a fan of your harmony. Thank you for sharing these fantastic talents.
Oh my goodness, I have been waiting so long to thank you. Still can't give up details. Still weeping. This song just reaches so deep into my soul. Thank you..
I appreciate this song more than you can imagine. My only son went off to war in Iraq , and on 06/07/2007 he was shot. Thank God he survived and after 14 surgeries will be coming home to us soon.
@chirality2 I saw them at the Opry as well. They sang this song at the Ryman. Talk about hearing a pin drop. They got a rare standing ovation and had the audience in tears. Beautiful.
Except a man be born again he cannot see the kindom of heaven,If you meet me and forget, you have lost nothing. But if you meet JESUS and forget, you have lost everything.
@john77905 I feel that's very true. For all the mom's who give their only child to war. God gave his only Son so that we may have life and live it abundantly til our cup overflows. Praise Jesus he is the way the life and the only way to the kingdom.
Lovely song with hearfelt lyrics. I've now ordered the album which this song is on. I have two sons but I'm so relieved they didn't join the army and I have such compassion for parents of sons who fight for their country and world peace. My only criticism of this version is the heavy sound of the two fiddles as they come out too loud and override Cia's vocals in places. I'm hoping on the album their sound will be more subdued.
“this is my son... I give him up for people who don’t” are you referring to wealthy people who send him iff to fight oil wars and conquer lands in the name of mineral resources (afghanistan)? This song seems to accept the sacrifice of a child for the sake of a forever war in a foriegn land. Is that wven f#%n acceptable?
@mybabyneco Lol - who cares if people refer to God in their comments? Maybe they have strong faith and they believe the things in their life are related to that faith. Does it hurt you that they believe that or say that? Live and let live my friend.

Beautiful.
If you love Cherryholmes, please check out their performance at Bonnaroo. This is Bluegrass at its finest.
I heard this on the radio in North Dakota while traveling.
