My parents would have their house parties, and put all the kids in one room, and have the music blasting; while the kids would be playing including myself, music like this would grab my attention. Every so often one of the parents would stick their head in the door and ask, "Yall alright?" When that was done the music was even louder. I wouldn't take nothing for my journey; I miss the small nuances of my life, and this is part of the sound track.
"..and I'm gonna' go school again for you, just to get my equivalency diploma." The phrase has been in my head for over 30 years. We never really know the things that will ultimately have an impact on our minds. This group meant more to me than I knew. Boy, do we need them now.
Reminds me so much of growing up in West Philadelphia(I also lived and still rep North Philadelphia). My mom played this album religiously(Thanks Carolyn Armstead for introducing me to so much great music). My sisters, Tina and Tameka used to sing Cherchez La Femme all the time. Oh and I also used to swear that my aunt Theresa was Cory Daye(lol). I loved my childhood and I thank my family for such great memories.
Greetings West Philly. I was born and raised in South Philly and loved this group. I was totally captivated by Cory Daye back then. She looks sooooo beautiful in this performance.
Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band sure was ahead of its time. Do your thing, Miss Daye! Rest in peace, Stony. At one time, I had a crush on all the musicians in the band, especially Stony. I recently saw a photo of actor Laz Alonso, and when he wears that cap, he looks as if he could portray Stony Browder Jr. in a biopic about the band. Hmmm ... sounds like a great idea for a film!
This reminds me of Saturday nights when the adults would put on records and sit and drink and play cards. They would tease us kids about not knowing about "grown folks music". I didn't understand what they meant then but I do now. I just recently bought this on cd for myself and blast it in my car all the time. I get strange looks from time to time but who cares? This is MUSIC. Thank you Coati Mundi for the walk down memory lane.
Believe it or not I still have the vinyl and although I played the heck out of it, it's still in darn good shape! I loved this lp!! I just played it for a friend of mine, she could not believe she'd never heard of this group before (she's 51). She is buying asap!!
What a fucking great band that was. Class, irony, swing, groove. Everybody always (rightfully) say how great the band, how cool the arrangements and all, and that's all true. But one thing not many say is that these songs' melodies were absolutely p.e.r.f.e.c.t.
I still have this LP, yes LP. I play it often. Cory was hot a hell. Dr. Buzzards group was phenomenal. Love the vibe player. He partied on every song. I miss there sound.
I absolutely love this track. This is just about perfect music, the arrangements, the chords, the melody and the amazing performance. Cory's voice was amazing, especially her ad-libs at the end of each verse and during the coda. I was very much into hard rock during the '70s but this and 'Cherchez La Femme ' were two of my favorite songs.
Wow, Corry looks so good here and in the Cherchez La Femme clip! I can't get over how much she makes me think of an old family friend. You guys looked like you all had a blast doing this show! This album is one of my all time favorite albums in my life so far. Very fond memories of back in the day. Thank you so much for posted these videos Mr. Mundi.
Good God, watching this vidoe of Dr. Buzzard and his right hand man Coati Mundi really overwhelmed me with emotion and great memories. What an era. A time when nusic was performed live by musicians. What a privilege it was to say I saw and heard this as a kid. As a kid I dreamed of playing trumpet with this orchestra. God bless these artists wherever you are. You made my world that much more beautiful!
What a sound! What spectacular music talents and showmanship!!! Thank you for posting and sharing this, and other wonderful memories we all can enjoy and cherish. I cannot help wondering if these talented people realized the perfection of their performances.
Hi "slicksebring":Mucho merci & glad you like them. Don't know side players cause they were used solely for the broadcast. However the Bellhop singer on left is Debra Anderson who became part of "Stargard". One of the musicians is Joel Peskin a highly accomplished Sax player who I ran into much later on when I was music director for the televised Desi Awards Show & he was in the TV band. Bee well
Exceptional music. Such joy ... I caught this original performance on TV ... bought the album immediately and wore it out. Finally got to see August and Andy on a Kid Creole tour in SF years later. Love the style and attitude ... thanks so much for putting this up and bringing back those wonderful feelings!
Nice one. Thank you for holding on all these years. Make sure to read the description box for some additional tidbits. On a different note, I did an experimental short film that you might hopefully enjoy. Make sure to keep viewing after the tiles. There’s some bonus gyrating footage. Man this song takes me back to watching my mom clean house when I was a kid. Still such a great record, so wish I'd had the chance to see you guys live!
Only one of their music I vaguely remember in 76, 77 but it just didn't seem to get play on SF radio stations and I was too young to get hip about going to record stoes in those days. Damn. Well, better late than never?
You are very welcome ....I appreciate you viewing the video. And please check out my experimental film. Here's the link ua-cam.com/video/jlAtQrWcG_8/v-deo.html
Thanks for posting, Coati! I've been following you and August for years from Dr Buzzard to Kid Creole! I have most of your albums and wish there were more.

@MundiWorld Man I know it can be difficult but I would love to see you guys tour the US again. I heard Cory lives in Germany these days but a summer US tour would be EPIC.
Coati, thank you. Now share something with us. I have recently gotten to know your music. What was it like to grow up in NYC while you guys were creating this? I mean, in the 70's the salsa revolution came and being hispanic, you could have been drawn to that, and still, you decided to stick to this sound. I have heard a lot of 70's music, and besides the drug infused music of the 70's, this seems so fresh and not drug induced. I mean, this is some serious creative shit! Care to elaborate?

Every song on the album is brilliant. Hard to keep from smiling when hearing this. Cory is a goddess.
Zoot suits and '40s swing. How great!

what an amazing performance, everbody moved and danced to perfection, the look was dope, and the beautiful singer, Cory Daye, the voice of an angel.
"..and I'm gonna' go school again for you, just to get my equivalency diploma." The phrase has been in my head for over 30 years. We never really know the things that will ultimately have an impact on our minds. This group meant more to me than I knew. Boy, do we need them now.

The epitome of class, talent and showmanship. Corey's voice is sent from God himself. Everytime I hear her, my soul wakes up. It's quite emotional .
