BIRD PHOTOGRAPHY FROM MY PHOTO BLIND - wildlife photography behind the scenes in Denmark

  • Bird photography is one of the very challenging genre of wildlife photography - especially when photographing birds of prey and other shy birds like crows and magpies.
It's early morning and I am on my way to my photo blind to see if I am lucky to get some nice photos of birds. I have to get there before the sun sets, so the alarm goes off at 5AM!
Join me behind the scenes this awesome day of wildlife photography.

I have now completely finished watching all the video installments on Morten's channel. And all the comments have it nailed down. This isn't about a guy blathering on about his gear and all of the photo aspects. This is about a story teller telling us about his love of nature, and how he himself goes about getting closer to what he loves. The images are the gravy. With some good b-roll, and including US -- the viewer in everything he's thinking, everything he's seeing, his Danish accent all come together to make it enjoyable to people without cameras or interests in photographing nature. It's like 15 minutes you can be somewhere else in your day, along with this friend of yours from Denmark. He's only just started this channel and I'm sure as the weeks progress, we are in for better everything. By far one of the best SUBs I've undertaken all year.
I came here for nature photography -- what I got was a true adventure.

I am absolutely amazed and truly humbled after reading your fantastic compliment. This means so much more to me than you might know. It is so encouraging to hear how I reach you and it makes me so happy that you feel the adventure and my love of nature and most important, that you are enjoying to watch it. I really really hope you will like to follow me on this journey :) All the best wishes from Denmark:)

Absolutely spot on with your comments John. The images, whilst superb, are simply a by-product of the story as far as I am concerned. Love this style of vlogging. Wasn’t too interested in wildlife/nature photography before finding Morten’s channel but now I am totally engrossed. Currently working my way through his playlist and am enjoying every one.

this is what i love about photography.. its like hunting. you have to be dedicated, you need to be at the right place at the right time with consistency. plus no hunting licenses (some would argue the harm of the birds) and its like a slot machine effect. its pretty awesome. i love wildlife photography... not because im out to get an award winning photo, but I, ME... I'M the one that got that buck.. or that water foul.. ect. its like hunting in all the right ways.

Ah, the wonderful aroma of coffee in a blind. Never try and separate a man from his coffee. I take lots of bird pictures and really haven't found 'yard-birds"to be that shy, especially around food. Hummingbirds will almost come to your hand for a treat. Crows, buzzards, turkeys, are a whole other story. And bird pictures from my boat are always a challenge - moving birds and a rocking boat. The magpie shots are wonderful! The local hunters have some deer stands (usually elevated 10-15 feet) that I might use to see what kind of birds I can spot. Thanks for the video and I hope you are making a lot of money from You tube as you truly deserve it.

    Morten,
What a gift in finding your films this evening! My day started with 25 wild turkeys in my yard, a lovely site, and after that I was looking through some old notes and a short trailer I had made for a nature series of my own, as wilderness has always been the great passion of my life since a little boy….and while online tonight looking for photography blinds, I found your beautiful work. This was just exactly what I needed, your feelings for nature, your emotion, your glee in the moment, as well as your love for wildlife photography, all resonated so much with my own feelings, and your experiences in the blind, especially when you heard the wolves, was thrilling and actually made me quite emotional….I almost felt as though I was there!
You’ve captured the perfect mixture of passion, art and story telling (exactly what I had in mind), that can help people to reconnect with nature….our only hope, I feel, in these now very dark and desperate times.
Keep fighting the good fight, you’ve greatly touched my soul!
    Cheers,
    Greg Douglass (NJ-USA)

Hi Morten. Many thanks for yet another absolutely wonderful and relaxing video. You really should be on the Television with your own show, promoting nature and photography. Your style as a commentator is every bit as good as our David Attenborough. Your videos are of unbelievably high quality as are your photographs depicting the best of nature.
I am not ashamed to say that I get very excited when I see you have a new video uploaded.....I have to get a coffee and then watch your productions. :-)
Beautiful photos you got there too.
I have just sold my 800mm F5.6 lens and today will be receiving a brand new 500mm F4 prime lens. I love doing hide work too, and what I will miss with reach I shall make up for with a faster aperture and I.S., , a good trade-off I think. And if I can take photos a quarter as good as yours, I will be very happy indeed. :-)
All the best, and keep the videos coming please! :-)

In England, Scotland and Wales the crows are mainly black, but there are hooded in Ireland. I know when on the wing the crows are really aggressive towards buzzards and I’ve never seen them on the ground with one. The creature that turns into a butterfly is a caterpillar in English. Your passion and commitment for your subject is a wonderful thing to see, and I could never stop learning off your fieldcraft. Another amazing video and think you for the intimate view of you at home.

These videos are really fun to watch! It's very interesting to see how you do wildlife photography. Most entertaining for me to see is what you think about in your composition of the photos, how you behave near the animals to not disturb but also to get the results you speak of.
The documentary/vlog format of this channel is just great! would really love to see more of your trips and small hikes. Thank you for putting the time in this and making videos about it! :D

I really admire your work. Be it a photography, videography and also video editing. You personified the perfection in your video. I really loved the part where you put the totally suitable music while showing the captured pictures.
Keep up the good work and best of luck.

Morten you are the best and my favourite wildlife photographer
Desperately waiting for tommorow's photographer's friday.
Hope! This time in photographer's friday we will get to know about your lenses and learn more about how to use them

So nice to hear this! I'm really really sorry to disappoint you, but I won't be able to upload a video every Friday. I will try and upload as often as I can, but with Spring coming, and different work appointments, it's sometimes quite difficult to get the videos done on a regular basis. I will put the lenses on my list of videos though, thank you so much for suggesting this. 😃

I think your videos are just the best I have watched to date on nature/bird photography , your love of the subject and enthusiasm comes over so well, its a delight to watch, ( am so envious of your set up with your hide etc.as I photograph birds/wildlife myself and am the same height as yourself,) cant wait for the next one, have of course subscribed.

Thanks again, Morton, for a fantastic video. I appreciate how you emphasize being laid back and quiet and letting things happen......or not. You can’t rush nature. Beautiful property too. A friend and I are setting up a hide/blind at a co-workers property to watch and photograph a den of red foxes who should be revealing their kits soon. I am feeling the enthusiasm that you express.

That sounds so awesome! I am also on the lookout for fox and badger dens, many hours of sitting and waiting! Let us know how you get on? It's very exciting!

Hi Morten, I always save your videos so i can watch them at lunch at the office, but then i get so restless i just want to scream, put my hands up in the air and run out of the building screaming like a lunatic!!! Why you ask? Because i wish i was doing what you are doing, being outside in the quite with nature, instead i am tormented by all the nonsense people in the other cubes talk about!!! Aaaargh!!! I really enjoy your videos Morten! Thank you!!
