Vane pumps do not create flow using centrifugal force - they are positive displacement pumps. With that said, centrifugal force - along with hydraulic pressure and push rods - work to operate the vanes themselves and extend them to the casing wall. That is what then creates an expanding cavity, or vacuum, that pulls liquid into the pump. It may be possible...but is definitely not ideal. Vane pumps would not be the best choice for sugar massecuite due to its viscosity and the presence of developing sugar crystals. Vane pumps, like shown in the video, can not be used as compressors. While pumps and compressors are often similar in operating principle, pumps are designed for handling liquids and compressors for handling gases. The vanes are not metal. They are composite and yes, over time they do wear. Periodically these vanes should be inspected and replaced when worn.
