    To Make Chana Dal Sundal
    Chana Dal - 1 Cup
    Grated Coconut - 1/4 Cup
    Green Chilli -2 Nos
    Chopped Ginger
    Curry Leaves
    Oil- 3 Tsp
    Urad Dal - 1 Tsp
    Cumin Seeds -1 Tsp
    Red Chillies

    Prep Time: 5 mins
    Cook Time: 25 mins
    Servings: 4-5
    Method:
    For Black Chickpea Sundal:
    1. Soak the kala chana in water for at least 8 hours or overnight.
    2. Discard the soaked water and transfer the soaked chana into a pressure cooker.
    3. Add in enough water and salt. Cook the chana for 4-5 whistles on a medium low flame.
    4. Take oil in a pan and add chana dal, urad dal, cumin seeds, mustard seeds and saute.
    5. Add the cut up red chillies and asafoetida.
    6. Once the mustards start splattering, add green chillies and curry leaves. Mix and saute.
    7. Add in the cooked chickpeas and saute.
    8. Add the chopped mango pieces for a nice flavour.
    9. Check for seasoning and add salt according to your taste.
    10. Finally add the grated coconut and mix well.
    11. Kala Chana Sundal is ready to be served.
    For Chana Dal Sundal:
    1. Soak the chana dal in water for about 1 hour.
    2. Take a pot and add water to it. Boil it and add the soaked chana dal.
    3. Add salt and mix well. Cook until the dal is cooked but not mushy.
    4. In the meanwhile, keep removing the froth that is being formed on the water.
    5. Once the dal is done, strain the dal and keep it aside.
    6. To a mixer jar, add the grated coconut, green chillies, ginger and curry leaves.
    7. Pulse it a few times and make it into a coarse mixture. Keep it aside.
    8. Take oil in a pan. Add urad dal, cumin seeds, mustard seeds and saute.
    9. Add in the red chillies, curry leaves and asafoetida powder.
    10. Mix well and add the cooked chana dal.
    11. Check for seasoning and add salt as required.
    12. Finally add in the ground coarse coconut mixture and mix well.
    13. Chana dal sundal is ready to be served.
    Hey guys!
WISH YOU ALL A HAPPY NAVRATRI 💐💐💐
So without any confusion, you must have already understood that these Sundal recipes are for Navratri. Though sundal can be made in many ways, I have used black chickpeas and chana dal to make two varieties of sundal with them. These recipes have no onion and garlic so you can happily offer them to Goddess Durga during your pooja rituals. And even otherwise, these dals tend to provide good protein and immense energy, so if you are fasting during these Navratris, just have any of these sundals atleast once in two days to make sure you maintain your energy levels healthily. So do try these recipes and enjoy.

The Chana Dal tastes better than the dark chickpeas! Very nice way of cooking these peas! Can we add sliced shallots for a sweeter taste? I know many people will not want to add Onions and Garlic for religious reasons! Thanks, Sister.
