Hi Blazingwheel! A tool-assisted speedrun is the result of a frame-by-frame playthrough by an advanced player (who knows the game very well). The process is relatively simple but very time consuming since you record each input (controller) you want for each frame (60 frames per second) and have to save/load until you're satisfied with the result. In this case, the combat with the mario brothers took me over 6 hours to record. I hope my answer will be of any help! :)

VikingPotatoes It's TAS, he didn't have to make reads, he could progress frame by frame and if he made a mistake he could revert and try again from a little bit before.

it didn't look like he stopped, it was actually just the landing lag from doing a fast fall land, which is only 4 frames, which means total he wouldn't have wasted much time, maybe 15 frames at most if he didn't move as fast as possible afterwards, which is 1/4 of a second. But during the race to the finish section he could have gone a lot faster if he edge canceled some quick attacks to get to the edges where you jump. that would have actually saved him 4 seconds or so.
I miss melee way to much right now;( I let one of my friends borrow it but he likes it to much he's too stingy to give it back ;) they really changed pikachu in melee and brawl.
In my opinion I think the N64 version is a bit better than Melee, I just love the controls and balance of the game feels a bit better than melee... more casual friendly as well as competitive but of course for the hardcores Melee is the way to go... overall the franchise itself is one of the best in the fighting community hands down 2nd to Street fighter
What are you talking about? I recorded each and every frame of it myself... The tool just gives me the control over the speed of the game and permits controller recording
