Now with the announcement of the cut-down black EXP version, it's the perfect time to order the old one. I was like you on the fence for a long time, but I ordered it yesterday (and also the VS).
This was my absolute first buy of the year due to donut dodo. I'm so glad I held off. I will continue to wait until Blaze gets there 💩 together to purchase more carts or download anymore half baked updates !!!
Nice video letting everyone know the issues. Man, I really want to root for the Evercade and Blaze, but they did a really poor job of letting people with Super Pockets know about these issues they must have known about for awhile. I’ve got my exp too, so ok I can play on that for now. But man… I frequent message boards dedicated to the system and I didn’t see anything until it was in people’s hands already. Tsk. The cart doesn’t work on my original system, but I haven’t updated it, since, well, ever lol. Guess I’ll go do that since now it seems like it’s worth the bother. Nice to see that tested on an updated system! Cheers!
Happy to help. It wasn't mentioned anywhere until folks buying the cart like me actually get their hands on it. Going by the lack of information, they clearly dropped the ball and didn't realise there was an issue. Hopefully it'll get sorted but it's poor stuff. The last big update certainly caused a few problems for all the devices and carts.
There's really not much that I'm interested in that has been released yet this year. Hopefully, we'll get some more arcade collections and things like that soon.
Great review! I was saving this to ask for as a birthday present but if I can’t play Donut Dodo on my Super Pocket then I’m not sure I’m interested. I’ll have a look at your video on that to find out more though!
looks like a solid collection, mine arrived this morning. Shame about the issues with Donut Dodo. I suspect this could of been easily avoided with some proper testing. However, I'm sure they'll fix it eventually 🥴. I'm definitely interested in big to small after seeing your video. Looking forward to the C64 3 video!
Yeah hopefully the issues will be fixed.. but can't help think they created this one themselves. Testing definitely needs to improve. Big2Small is addictive. C64 3 will be tomorrow. Its time consuming to create the videos when there's 13 games on each Collection.
i pre-ordered from Amazon (had a gift card) and it hasn't even shipped yet :( i'm really looking forward to this one, primarily for Big2Small. i really enjoyed it when it was the free cart of the month. i also happen to be incredibly in love with animals, adding to its appeal. i love the Evercade, especially indie titles.
Mine should arrive tomorrow, as I finished most of the games already I'm most looking forward to Alien cat 2, but i agree the MD music is definitely better.
Cheers Crazy! Happy times are here again... How the smuck can the button mapping be so wrong on the Super Pocket and the same game have loading issues when only the "game saving" had been disabled? Pre-xmas and still ongoing firmware bulls up problems, bizarre issues that make no sense? And my copies were not posted until the 29th, email late in the evening on the 29th. Socks had a priority to be posted first I see, after the oversized cap I didn't really need two sleeping bags lol. Thanks for the lowdown as always! 👍
The testing is just embarassing at this point. The main selling point of the cart and buttons not mapped (I heard left and right are actually mapped to select and start). There is just no defending this.
I haven't tried The Little Tales of Alexandria yet, looks pointless to play. Better to load up Boo Party on Switch or Deadeus on Evercade. ATM I'm having a hard time putting down Alien Cat 2, which surprises me since that mechanic isn't one I usually like. Thunder Paw I am liking a good bit and didn't like it at all when I played it as Game of the Month. The Dodo loading issues kill it but I got it on Switch and a physical of it on pre-order for Switch so I'm good on that. Skate Cat slow down is unfortunate, sucks out what little fun there is. Chibi on EXP is TINY, my poor old eyes can't take it, lol. My password on Chew Chew Mimic is saved from Game of the Month and waiting for me to enter in. It's my favorite on here after the Dodo (when Dodo works as should).
Hopefully Dodo will be sorted. Its lost the zippyness it had. Adding the wait time takes something away from it. Alien Cat 2 was a firm favourite of mine from Indie Heroes 1.
Great video as always, it’s a shame with the issues, as you have mentioned previously, Blaze could end up being their own down fall. I think the Indie games are a real strength for the Evercade particularly the more high quality ones such as full void, Alwas awakening and demons of asteborg. I prefer those indies than the type on these collections. Hopefully we have more updates soon
Yeah I was definitely feeling more positive about this cart before I got it.. the issues and poor games like Skate Cat and the little adventure game are not helping. Still worth it for Donut Dodo, Big2small and maybe Alien Cat 2. But not quite as good a cart as I was expecting.
Quick correction, magic and legends is GB studio and chew chew mimic was our own engine not NESmaker. Shame it didn't click as much with you, hopefuly a 2nd play through will be more enjoyable :)

Quality control has always been lacking at Blaze but issues seem to be getting more frequent! I'm already considering stopping collecting this year because I'm getting a bit bored of the same old names such as Piko, and these issues really aren't inspiring me to keep throwing my money at them. Of the most recent 2 collections, the only game I really wanted was Donut Dodo and they went and ruined it with the control mapping and load time problems. Blaze really need to start stepping up their game because I'm on the verge of throwing in the towel.
I might not be too far behind you.. its been a frustrating few months. Lost saves, lost carts and silly niggles like Donut Dodo are not doing them any favours.
Let’s not beat about the bush. I have every cart since number 1 and the quality has definitely dropped. We started off with quality collections. Now they seem to be filling the carts with indie stuff, don’t get me wrong I like indie stuff but where are the big hitters like a jaguar collection, spectrum, colecovision, the list goes on
Definitely a lot of stuff that haven't appeared yet. Maybe they never will. Going to be a lot of announcements in the next few weeks.. so could be make or break time. They have been promising big things.
You arrived at an unlucky time. There have always been issues although most of them small things..., around the time the VS launched things were great and Evercade was on a roll. It just seems since they added Auto Saving and now Auto Fire things have gone from fab to drab in a matter of months with game & cart issues. Fingers crossed they get on top of it!
@@tdome3000 it's not necessarily the carts. The firmware updates have caused issues. Additional security checks that's creating problems. This should be sorted nowm
I dont know why i bither with the home computer carts. Probably down to my incompetence in part but i cant even get half the games started. Why make it so difficult. Ive bought every cart so far but stuff like this just puts me right off
I still have Chew Chew Mimic GOTM on my VS as I never updated in Dec 2023, thankfully all games on the C64 Collection 3 cart load fine on my VS with last November's firmware.
Just in case. In the display options I have my VS set to enable PAL 50hz as most of these c64 games are PAL. It shouldn't make a difference but just in case...
After your Review Crazy Burger. I think you can consign this to the pile of poor, mediocre Carts that Blaze have lead with so far for 2024! Yes I know that’s going hard! But I think you can no longer except a few standards on a collection to give it a pass anymore?! 🤔. I don’t think this means that the idea of this particular series of collections is now wrong. Far from it. Its one of the BEST things for the Evercade! 👍. I am just holding out that Blaze will, or can raise their game better than this effort this year?! 🫣

Yeah I agree, definitely more Alwa's, full void.. roadmap for 2024 probably coming this month.

I was looking forward to the Indie Collection 3, but all I have is the Super Pocket. If they put out an update how would I be able to update it?
It'll be updated via the charge cable via a PC download app. Similar to how the Original Evercade was updated.

Magic & Legend looks like a Game Boy Colour game, despite being made as a NES game. But is it an actual 8-Bit rom or is it running natively?
My error it's a Gameboy Colour game.
Donut Dodo, Thunder Paw and Big2Small looked cool but everything else is mid as hell

Yes.. but this cart actually died further down the line.. got a replacement though.

I think they need to stop filling up these collections with games you can complete in 20 mins. There's no value in this.
