Bill Withers sang and composed " I Wish You Well". There Is A Line In His Song: "I WISH YOU CHILDREN THAT GROW TO MAKE YOU PROUD."... Ellis Marsalis, Thank You. Indeed, Indeed and Indeed! Bill Withers also wrote the Song "Lean On Me", Sung for and by Medical Staff during this Coronavirus Pandemic. AND he wrote the Unforgettable Vietnam Eulogy "I Can't Write Left Handed". Bill Withers also died (during this period of devastation) at the age of 81, from heart complications.
There's a story floating around NYC that Tom Browne sent Wynton packing at a jam session back in the day. Tom COULD PLAY more than what he was famous for. lol Chuck Magione was also a Blakey alum. Wynton was obviously very young and opinionated, but that's not news.
@@TheRealGambleman look, I lived with him (his room was just two doors down from me), played with for over 8 weeks. Do you seriously know better than someone who actually knew him in his youth? 18-year-old Wynton was among extremely accomplished piers and he knew it, and when he respects who he's with he can be a very humble guy. It was a pleasure getting to know him. He was also an extremely generous and giving person, and obviously still is.
"Fathers and Sons." That record received a lot of hate, which went right along with the negativity hailed Wynton's way over those 80s-90s years. I loooved that record, and love all the Marsalis's as well! Wynton almost single-handedly revived the jazz of old we fanatics wished had never died. He wasn't perfect (who is?) but the world of music is the better for him, as well as the remainder of the Marsalis's (particularly Branford).
RIP Ellis. Thank you for providing the world with your music and your wonderful family that made jazz a cultural treasure again.

Wynton looks older here than he does now 😂 hes around 60+ nowadays and looks GREAT!
