Kyle Larson displays dramatic improvements during Indy 500 Open Test Day 1 | Motorsports on NBC
/ motorsportsonnbc - Спорт
He's a wheel man no doubt. Very few people have the abilities to drive so many different race cars and actually run in the top 5.Hes gifted
yes but this is something many drivers here have done for a very long time and that is a factor, an indycar is vastly differant then a heavier nascar, or running instinctively on the dirt that he does so well and dominated here in indiana and ohio in the 2010's, this is about precision, but I would love to see him win the 500 then you could put him up there with the all time legends, would be something if he cam over to irp and ran the pavment hoosier hundred on carb day for the carb night classic he won the last true hundred at the state fair he could very well do it and win it again
He’s already in rare air. I highly doubt he’ll get a win, but a good showing is entirely possible. Can’t wait to be there to see it play out.
@@manga12 You should learn the history of open wheel racing in America. It all started on dirt. The pipeline was (and still is) dirt to pavement. Racing sprint cars on dirt ovals teaches transferable skills to formula cars on paved ovals.
He's up there with Foyt, Andretti, and almost but not quite in Clark's class.
these drivers REALLY "like" need a "like" speach, like, coaches. Its like, really, like, bad, like...
Larson reminds me of Tony Stewart - wanting to race as much as possible in any kind of car. Love it!
...yup only with a better attitude, temperament, and personality.
@@ILSRWY4 LOL, but that's "quite true" to quote Anthony Joseph Foyt II.
@@ILSRWY4That’s debatable.
Though not as hot tempered and doesn’t have more than one Cup Series championship.
@@timford3599 ah foyt he was even more known for his temper and saying whats on his mind then tony stewart, larson is more even tempered and maybe a bit quieter hes amiable to autographs and pictures but his crew at a sprint race wont let you bug him and he is constantly studing the races or planning, if he is not trying to have family time or swarmed by fans the two times I saw him at a race last year, once at the high limit show at kokomo and once at the eldora million. one thing though they have in comon is that foyt and larson are not super tall, and stewart is about my hight too maybe an inch taller. I am watching to see how larson does, would be wicked if he won it, hope this isn't his only time doing it but to call him an all time great he is going to have to win it at least once, its something smoke and gorden never pulled off
Kyle Larson Is Not Human 💯
As an outside to this Larson guy, I just have to know why he's not going for F1? It is a far more technical and challenging series to drive, Americans have always been terrible at it as the Europeans start their kids training when they're 6 years of age. Difficult to say this being an American myself, but we have had zero good F1 drivers, ever. Williams has one on their team now, Logan Seargent, and he's incredibly good but not at all competitive with the Europeans.
Give him time, he’ll get there!!!!😊😮
Doubtful. Kyle Larson is way too old for Formula 1 Those kids start at age four or five and spend every day of childhood preparing for F1
@@Selmerpilot
Is like an F1 driver will find a stock car very difficult to drive on a oval track. Is not a car just going in circles. Takes alot to know how to drive it. F1 is very awesome can't lie
@@Selmerpilot Too old, and zero relevant racing experience in Europe.
If you think Logan is uncompetitive with all of the training he has had, you wouldn't wanna see how Larson would fair...
edit: As for why more Americans don't try for F1? Its simple. Money. The average parent with F1 Ambitions spends ~$1,000,000 just on their child's karting career... That kind of money alone goes much further racing in the states aiming for NASCAR or even INDYCAR.
If Logan's uncle wasn't a billionaire, he wouldn't be in F1.
I’m not a Hendricks fan and don’t root for Larson in NASCAR, but I’ll be rooting for him in the Indy 500.
Hendrick is singular. Spelling isn’t difficult.
Same here
why? larson is the best in the field
@@tcmusic6429 I prefer Hendrix.
Best indy car driver in the field? Lmao go away @gavinmcguffey
Everyone misses Robin Miller, the guy was a hoot, helluva race fan.
And wanted to see KL at Indy... RIP Robin Miller enjoy the show!
Yep
The A.J. Foyt of our time
Truth. Except maybe Tony Stewart.
@@justinsmalley4111yep. Tony won a couple in Indycar and 3 in nascar
@@JretnuH and all three open-wheel championships (midge, sprint and silver crown) in one season.
Pull back on them Reins....
i like how they werent paying attention and thought he set that 226 lap on the draft one instead of the previous one 😂
Tony Stewart finished 6th and 3rd doing the double back in 01. Can't wait to see how Larson does.
Do you think Kyle is better than Smoke?
I mean tony stewart is a two time indycar champion, not a good comparison
He’s certainly better than overrated Jimmie
@rbertevern6169 he has the ability, attitude and backing to be, time will tell...
A 6th and a 3rd is ridiculous and it's sad it doesn't get the attention it deserves
We hear all the hype when it comes to Kyle but my goodness gracious it is absolutely mind-blowing to witness it on a yearly basis. 🤷🏻♀️🤯
We should all feel lucky to witness it.
i saw him in a sprint car in 2011 and no doubt. Fastest man i have ever seen.
So much to learn it's unfathomable but if Larson finds real confidence in race setting he'll be a factor
I don't think the driving part won't be an issue, it's the other details that he's adjusting to more than anything.
Larson is the best overall racer in the modern era. He's the modern Tony Stewart. Love how much talent this man has!!!!
I wish his everyday #5 scheme was orange & blue vs the red & blue he currently runs. #17 has great history with HMS
It looks so good.
I like that Larson mainly has one paint scheme. Kind of reminds me of how it used to be, but the design isn't really exciting to me. I know the reason for them using it but in terms of aesthetics the orange and blue would look way better
I like the red and blue better, but sponsors/affiliations have a lot to do with it. Whatever, just as long as it's fast.
Its Ricky's colors, not Larson's. Larson is literally racing in memory of Mr H's son.
@@cliff4695 Larson is racing because he wants to race. He isnt "literally racing in memory".
@@cliff4695 Maybe those were Ricky's colors, but I just thought the orange is McLaren's color.
Larson and Stewart two of the best drivers ever
Kyle Larson has a good chance to win the Indy 500.
Its not Kyle Larson vs. the rest of the field. Its Kyle Larson vs. his right rear tire.
This is Indianapolis, not Detroit, lol - everyone gets close to the wall.
If you’re not dangerous, you’re not good.
@@Jev6 My point went way over your head. Has nothing to do with the closeness to the wall.
I wish Robin Miller was here to see this
He has the best seat in the house!
@@B_dub423 for sure!
Robin has the best seat in the house to see this.
@@TreeLBollingTreeMan amen to that!
I kinda wish Hendrick would start a Indy Car team. Same with Stewart Haas. I think they could win races in the series.
for sure!
Well looks like I might watch the indy 500 for the first time in a long time.
Kyle is a very intelligent driver.
OMG!!!! KYLE is racing ar Indy is freaking awesome can't wait for this race! 🏎🏁 🏁
Larson can drive anything on wheels and make it fast. He’s elite.
Unicycle?
@@Appletank8 wheels, not wheel
He reminds me of Jimmie Johnson. Granted JJ drove bi dirt trucks for quite some time where Larson cut his teeth at late model tracks and sprint cars and late models. My point is they can pretty much get into any type of vehicle with a motor and make it fast.
Wish I could talk to Rex Hutchinson (RIP) about this. Kyle would enjoy the conversation also.
This is just practice but the names he's up with are crazy
Go Kyle Larson. I'm Definitely Rooting for you to make the Indianapolis 500 Field of 33- because you Drive THE WINNER- A CHEVROLET!!!!!!!
Utmost respect for Mr. Larson. He is a class act.
Not only dose Larson dominate Nascar,Dirt racing,Supercar racing,Now Indy car
How many Supercar and Indycar starts does he have? 0. How is he dominating them?😂😂😂
DOES
Yeah... But can he dominate on 2 wheels also?! 🤣
I knew he was special since the 42 car
pure racer, good to see
Commentators should not forget that he is also a Knoxville Nationals Champion, in addition, to all the other wins.
Kyle Larson what a guy!!
Our Man, Robin Miller has to be up there in Heaven with a big ole' s#!t eatin' grin on his face. . RIP Robin we all miss you so much!
My favorite driver
I bet Owen will be Very Excited
What if like SVG, he wins on his 1st try!!
This is the Indy 500 not a street course on rain tires ..! Absolutely love this guy SVG in NASCAR but no comparison as far as race tracks …🏁🇺🇸😎
It's amazing to see him here. The guy can drive anything! He's so old school. Love it when the Nascar guys come over.
Ironic my 1:24 duel Larson 1100 diecast set came in today that I preodered. Great timing
Yep he is a badass
Now that the safer barrier is in place I wish they would put the apron back in place.
I appreciate that 15 second ad out of nowhere

Go Larson ! You are the Man!
Kyle Larson is a special talent !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ............when he gets comfortable in that car ......look out !!!!.........................just sayin !!!!!!!!!!!!!! .........................:)
Bruh is getting some track time for the brickyard 400 😂😂😂😂😂
I'm definitely going to be pulling for him
Larson as a rookie reminds me about when some of the F1 world champions first raced here as "rookies".
Nor am I a Kyle Larson fan. But, I think he's the best American racer since Mario

He ees a cyyyboorg!!

I can't wait for May!!!!! See ya in turn 2

i would like to see Kyle Busch race in the indy 500 someday
I love Kyle Larson.
He's my favorite active race car driver.
The guy is amazing.
Great job. Kyle Larson is one of the best drivers in Nascar along with Kyle Busch as well, to juggle this top end racing car of Indy cars to Nascar racing and then racing World of Outlaws are 3 different types of racing in the same week. I hope the day comes to race, that none of the other drivers run him off because of being jealous of his talent. Plus, he's won the Rolex 24-hour race as well. What's next, do they still have the Baja 1,000 Racing, I haven't seen one, I bet he would win the class he's in. He's just another Evil Knievel type of person who loves speed. It is his fun that keeps him pumped up and keeps him up front in most races. In practice to place 2nd in speeds, that's crazy
Kyle Busch, very quick.
this is NTT Indycar Series on NBC Sports Network in the U.S.A...
?
Kyle Larson is fast in any race car.
I'D be fast in any race car. Doesn't mean I'd be any good though. 🙃
was this today?
My opinion, he'll be better than JJ.
Very happy the best American driver is in the 500 this year
I would like to know how often they repave that track because it looks new every few years.
My hope is Kyle races well at the 500. Really hard for me though because I want Helio to win #5. Like Smoke, I really think Kyle could win the show. Per usual, I'll be watching the events and the race as I do every year. BOL Kyle. This really is the premier race in the world.
Reminds me a lot of Robby Gordon, guys who can drive anything.
Actually, nice comment. Few have impressed me like Robbie Gordon. On that list, Hans Stuck. I saw Kyle Larson at Ocean Speedway in 2011, did not know who he was, fastest man i have ever seen.
Kyle has earned a F1 seat.
Not just do the race...DO THE SERIES... how much more can he prove in WasCar
I'll keep saying this until it becomes true, if there is a US born driver who could compete and win in F1, it is Kyle Larson. The dude was just built to go fast.
I'd put Kyle Busch in that as well. Historically there are other American drivers who could have won in F1 but it's never been a good business decision to lose money trying to break into F1 instead of making way more in America.
Most Americans like Busch are too big physically to race f1 Kyle is small enough to be properly fitted in a f1 car
Larson's arguably the best oval racer on the planet, but he would have zero relevance in F1.
@trevor4533 He wins road courses too and of course dirt races of all kinds. He could do it but he couldn't hit all the dirt races if he's racing all over the world. I doubt he would give that up so I don't think we'll ever find out for sure.
@@MrBurney12 yes, in 3400lb stock cars.
Keep in mind, everyone in F1 cut their teeth racing karts and junior formula cars against the best drivers ON THE PLANET to get to where they are.
Again, best oval track racer bar none. But he would be out of his element entirely.
Best driver ever. Like him or not
Pretty cool
I hope he wins, then says its was easy and then goes back to Cup running top 15.
Kurt did and next Kyle has to do it
ngl the American Triple crown should be Series Champ (NASCAR/Indycar/IMSA), Rolex 24 Overall Win, Indy 500 Win.
It should include the daytona 500
@@saltyaphid3195and I would have the 12 hours of Sebring as an alternative for the Rolex 24. Indy 500, Daytona 500, and either the Rolex 24 or the 12 hours of Sebring.
Kurt Busch finished 6th when he tried the Indy 500.
Kyle Larson is a gifted driver. He is the modern day AJ Foyt and Mario Andretti of our time.
and the countless amount of wins in open wheel/sprint cars.
When the hard "R" has the opposite affect on your career.
Open wheel drivers were going to NASCAR 20 years ago...my how the tables have turned. Bill France Sr. and Jr. are rolling in their graves. Good job Brian and family.
So when Fernando Alonzo left f1 for a one off race in the Indy 500 that meant that people were ditching f1. No it didn’t, drivers have been going across motorsports for decades for one off races. It’s not that serious
He's 5th fastest lol that's pretty good for just practice
Go larson
Put any of the regular Indy car drivers in his nascar and they will fail but he can get right in a top car of there’s and he will be up front fighting to win.
You mean cup car?
@@Lowlife-jc8us yeah I do.
He's another tony Stewart
Whats with the PIP crap NBC?
Yes it's ridiculous, they do it on NASCAR coverage. Some pin heads great idea
He can drive the wheels off that thing for all I care because nobody stands a chance against those Ganassi cars.
American F1 team with this guy behind the wheel now please, come on Andretti
Andretti is certainly trying for an F1 team for sure, FOM is just being stubborn about the money, FIA should step in and allow him in. If that does happen, Indianapolis should rejoin the US grand prix in F1
Now put him in an F1 Car that would be amazing
Commentaror is stupid its a Indy 500 test not the actually Indy 500
Jung 💰 money 😊! On the Top of his game!
Funny how Larson was sleeping
Are they just flat out around the whole track?
When your car is good, yes, lifting off the throttle actually upsets the car, very very very tricky.
What the heck he didn’t ask a high limit room question!!!🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
Here comes the glaze!
I can think of certain NASCAR drivers that gets more glazing.
Deserved glaze.
Who's is he testing for?
Hendrick Arrow Mclaren.
Ok Indycar fans help e out if u will. Why r they practicing for the Indy 500 rn when it’s like 3 months away. I’m new to indycar sooooo any help would be cool!
It’s next month.
It is next month. Memorial Day weekend every year. They have started practice and qualifying well before the race for decades.
I'll say this when it comes to oval racing.
Kurt Busch. P6 in his 1 off. Jimmie Johnson, washed, was running p11 before getting trapped a lap. Had multiple top 10 finishes on ovals.
NASCAR drivers are simply better oval racers. If the Indy car guys had cup level talent, they'd have ended up in NASCAR.
Excuse me,but shouldn't Kyle have a rookie tag on his car? ,,🤔🤦just asking. I know he is a great driver in any car....but 1st timer people.
