Always go below the desired note, by at least a tone or 2, and then bring it UP till the string is in tune. That way the tension on the string is as taut as possible eliminating any slack. Never tune "down" to the correct note. I guess that's why people say, "tune your guitar UP." Or "Tune up."
Just bought this tuner yesterday, half the price i expected to pay and it has already changed my life for the better, the only problem is now i wish id bought a red one and that now i know for sure my guitar isn’t in tune up the neck i realise it is time to upgrade. Extra bonus to learn the company supports some worthy causes.
Hey thanks much. Just bought one of these and I would have been lost without this little video. Sounds so much better with one of these little gadgets too!
What if my tuner doesn’t match the string of my guitar. For example I’m playing on the e string but it comes out in G, I have used this tuner on a Violin is that why?
I'm certainly no expert, but I was in the green with the wrong note displayed as well. I spun the spinny things more and got it to change to the right note. Just find the right note you're aiming for and then dial it in. If you see the wrong note, you're just out of tune (or maybe in tune, if you want to be different)
@@johnnyr562 bruh thank you so much i literally love you. i started lessons not too long ago and i bought my first guitar and tuner, it was showing that i tuned it into the green but it didn’t show the correct letter so i was really confused until i saw your comment. THANK YOUUU
I find that the Snark tuner works best just behind the nut, as opposed to the very end of the guitar. I actually noticed quite a difference in accuracy.
Those strings are an octave apart, but they are both considered correct. The accepted practice is that the 6th string is call an "E", (or a "low E") while the 1st is called an "e" (or "high" e). There is a distinction in case. It is easier to demonstrate on a keyboard.
I never get a straight immediate green.. It has a slice of yellow or red.. Or it toggles between both ‘green and yellow’ or ‘green and red’ when I first pluck the string and then lands on green.. Is that supposed to happen?
Hi …I have one use for guitar..can I use for ukulele? Thanks ..how do I know if octave to high? Had A thought right but was octave to high per shop ?? …
The direction you turn a tuning key varies from one type to another. Stratocasters and Telecasters have all of the tuning keys on one side of the head of the guitar, while Les Pauls and the like have a "3 x 3" pattern with 3 on each side of the guitar head. It's easier to think "increasing in pitch" or "decreasing in pitch" so you avoid these distinctions. I assume you can tell what pitch is. If not, I'll be glad to explain.
If you're tuning the "A" string and it reads "e", I'm hoping that the "e" you refer to is BELOW the pitch of the "A" you're looking for. If it's below, you turn the tuning key and listen for the pitch of the string either increasing or decreasing in pitch so you know which way to go. It's been a year, now, since you posted your Q, so I hope someone has already helped you. If not, ask another question and I will help you, and we'll start from scratch.
If it shows to be on "F" and they keep turning, they will pop that e string. They're 7 tones apart. If it shows on "F", they should DECREASE the pitch by turning the key in the opposite direction.
Does anybody know how to use this tuner to tune light gauge strings on a acoustic guitar? Because I think that might be why I’m getting different letters for every string.
Light gauge strings are no different when you are tuning them than medium gauge or heavy gauge strings. I suspect you were a little confused 4 years ago and that you have had help since then and are a successful "tuner". If you're still confused, someone can help you with this, even me.
Do these have trouble accurately tuning low low notes? (ie low B on 5 string bass) Ive had trouble with some tuners, particularly tuning apps on my phone not picking up a B0 and having to tune to the B1 on the 12th which is a pain.
It can technically be used on any stringed instrument. I’ve used it to tune a violin many times. But yes, it 100% can be used on an electric guitar, and no it absolutely does NOT need to be plugged in or anything. It picks up the vibration, so even if you’re in a rehearsal room, it’s only picking up YOUR instrument.
Well, that didnt help much. I cudnt see the snark face so that I understand. I NEVER get a "only green" lite. I get it green with full red on one side and full yellow on the other side. FYI, even tho' you are lovely, we need to see the snark face up close and possibly watch you turn the strings up n down.
You may have a different Snark model. Mine shows red filling the left when it's flat; red (left) + a slice of green/aqua in the middle when the tone is correct, and then red (left) + green (middle) +yellow to the right when it's sharp.
I have the same version as you. When I was given it I was told to get it to the light blue. If you get neon loosen it, if you only get red, tighten it.
Being able to see what you are seeing is key to an instructional video. I know HOW to tune an instrument. I DID NOT know how to use this tuner and I still don't.
When i pluck the E string, It shows the A string on the Tuner???? And she gives no Explanation?? Whst are the Up & Down arrows on the back of the Tuner??? I dont think im thst stupid but it makes me feel stupid! Ridiculous
How much green is supposed to show? Or is that when I use my own ear? LOL I tried it. and laughed my A off when I strummed the strings...It sounds good as I'm tuning each one, but then when I strum it I LMAO. hahahaha! I'm having fun. That's what counts...but still how much green...approximately? thank you!
I believe there’s only one bar of green when proper pitch is attained, while there’s several of the red and several of the yellow bars that can light up to show you how off you are.
Interesting video. Can’t see the tuner, but I can see the guitar player and the guitar. I’m thinking it would’ve been nice to zoom in on the guitar tuner instead of just showing the guitarist and the guitar. 🤔🧡
Snark does not allow us to know the accuracy of their tuners. However, when the green light goes off, that is a real confidence booster! That's all that counts-
Yeah and you’re wrong about it “not breaking” on you my fucking B string just snapped!! I just bought my damn guitar yesterday they told me with the silk steel strings that I had on the guitar that they would fall out of tune and I would have to tune them I didn’t know that they would be completely divergent from the letters that they’re supposed to be - they weren’t just a little bit “sharp or flat” they were completely in a different key and a different letter not adjacent to the letter that it’s supposed to be - and yes I know it’s EBGDAE on the string on the fretboard but it seems to me when I used my Snark it wasn’t matching up so when I would hit E and I would try to tune the peg so that it could go to B which is the second heaviest string from the bottom (or if you’re holding it from the top) I understand that the term analogy doesn’t jive with what it looks like most people would think the Estring next to the B string would be the top string but I was told that it’s called the bottom string regardless anyways my Snark tuner was trying to tune the B string but anytime I would do E or G I would hit those letters it wouldn’t have a B in between them it would give me an F or a G so I don’t even understand how it supposed to work at all idk What order do the letters go in? Thanks
I gave you the benefit to really show how to use the turner ! You never addressed the buttons on the back !! So your video I consider very poor, because you surely have no idea how to use the turner !! Next video do one on something you really know about !
The up and down arrows on the back have to do with extra distinctions of the Snark tuners. To have introduced those aspects while trying to explain the basic tuning functions would have caused an information overload and she wisely did not add that instruction into her video. If your Snark is the red one, the instructions come with the tuner and you can also get them online. Have you been able to understand it, yet?
Your demonstration of decreasing the pitch of a string to the target point and stopping at the point where only the blue color (you call it "green") target point is reached demonstrates an incorrect method of tuning a string. (1) When you're tuning your guitar by tuner or harmonic tuning (both of which you are demonstrating) and a string vibration is OVER the target blue point, you should lower the string BELOW the target point so it is slightly flat, then very gradually raise it until the blue light point is reached, but no yellow color is showing. If you over-shoot and some yellow is showing, lower it down, again, to when a slightly flat red color is showing and then gradually raise it to the blue target point is reached and no yellow is showing. The reason follows: (2) Both worm gears inside each tuning key, no matter how expensive, have a small amount of slack between them and by lowering the pitch of a string, this slack occurs. Then, when you start playing the guitar, the string tension pulls that slack out of the gears and it is prone to going slightly flat. This is a matter of physics, not opinion. (3) The approach in #1 above removes that tiny amount of slack so flattening of pitch does not occur. The gears remain tight against each other in this way. Turning the tuner key in the position of increasing pitch and hitting the blue target point, but not showing yellow color, ensures that the gears have no slack in them and won't flatten with playing of the guitar. This is the widely-accepted method of tuning when a tuning device is used, including all versions of tuners for the guitar, even the stroboscopic Petersons. Even when you are harmonically tuning off the 6th string and not using a tuner, the gear slack issue must be considered. Tune upwards until correct pitch is achieved, never downward.
I’m duh! So obvious what do you do if it’s the beast ring but it’s G? Or an E string and it’s giving you an A or a D or an F? WHICH ORDER Does it tune in? Which letter is next to the next letter because it’s not ABC DEF on the tuner!! Might be string just snapped because no matter which way I turned the tuning pegs it wasn’t getting anywhere near the B! And I didn’t even know where to land like which letter is adjacent to the B so all these stupid videos that show us how to use an electric tuner for a guitar that’s almost completely already in tune is useless and insulting fml

That means that you are "nearly" correctly tuned and need to tune to the point that only the blue (you call green) is showing.
