Hi Ken! I actually got infected with botulism when I was 8 months old. My parents were gardening and the spores got kicked up from the dirt, but it's more commonly found in garlic now. I was the first baby to ever receive the official medicine for botulism and we actually still have the vial for it : ) I made a full recovery after a year or two! I'm 25 now and completely healthy thanks to the doctors that worked on me. Botulism can affect the muscles in children and babies to the point their limbs are like noodles. Not able to lift their head, or any limb, so it's difficult to catch at times. My parents actually forced our relatives to take their baby to the doctors due to the same symptoms and it turned out the baby had botulism as well. Absolutely crazy story.
That's amazing!! Infant botulism from dirt is not uncommon, but thankfully most adults have immune systems that can resist small amounts of the botulinum toxin. Honey is the same way, actually! You should never give infants honey because it can contain trace amounts of botulinum
Even at my poorest in college, I lived on cheap ramen and cheap peanut butter, I do not think I would have considered this a valid option. If i had those ingredients I would have just eaten the pineapple out of the can and had cheese and crackers as a snack sometime else.
I absolutely NEED these guys to react to Josh and Momma's Thanksgiving video. Never thought you could make a whole Thanksgiving dinner out of a can, but boy did Momma prove me wrong

Fun facts: BOTH of those spiders are Orb Weavers! Orb Weavers are defined as spiders that form circular webs where the spider typically sits in its center. The black and yellow spiders are the Yellow Garden Spider or, in the south, a Writer Spider, and they are considered one of the most non-aggressive spiders you can come across. The Brown Garden Orb Weaver Spiders are typically nocturnal spiders who hide during the day to sleep and avoid predators.
The black and yellow ones I think of are called banana spiders in the south. Although I think they look a bit different than the ones you are talking about
brown orb weaver- Neoscona crucifera and i hated walking into them. beautiful creatures who destroy their webbs every day only to do it all over again the next day lol
Some info on botulism: the spores are found just about everywhere (in soil especially) but are harmless to healthy adults. Children under two can get sick from the spores which is why they are not supposed to eat honey and other certain foods to prevent exposure. Botulism only becomes toxic when it is able to become active in a low oxygen, low pH environment such as canned veggies (in water or other low pH foods). These spores can be destroyed at high temperatures which is why we don't get botulism from commercially canned goods. Home canned goods rarely get hot enough to destroy the spores unless pressure canned. An interesting fact: a small jar of the byproduct active botulism produces is enough to kill every person on the planet.
SPORES are harmless to adults yes... It's the toxins in the food made by the mold that will kill anyone of any age if they get enough... That's also why you can cook and kill/sterilize every spore, cell, and germ in spoiled food, but still get sick from the chemicals those fungi and bacteria make.
I love Josh and Momma!! Josh balances out his mom so well. And even though many of her recipes are odd, I like that she’s real. Unwashed dishes in the sink, oven isn’t perfect, stove top has seen better days. She isn’t striving for the aesthetically perfect channel. And she does actually eat what she makes. She’s just so sweet and clueless.
That honey is the only thing that shouldn't go in the fridge after opening. You'll get crystals in it. It doesn't mean it's bad, but it does affect the consistency.

8:30 FDA definitions are 100% cheese for the packaging to say "cheese", _at least_ 51% cheese for "cheese product" and the stuff below that is "cheese food" but I don't see 'cheese food' often at all anymore so maybe they cut that category. Kraft Singles, for example, are a "cheese product" because they contain mostly cheese by percentage (it's cheddar, by the way) but also emulsifiers and oil for that fast, easy, always-consistent meltiness and texture, plus some dyes and stuff (also, people who fearmonger over 'emulsifiers' because it's a science word are dumb). There are similar regulations for chocolate which is why a lot of packaging says 'chocolate flavor', 'chocolatey' and 'chocolate candy'.
Random fact, my adult child took a jar of spaghetti sauce in his room one night after coming home after a night of fun. It apparently had only a small amount taken from it before rolling under his bed. About a week later a loud KABOOM was heard, the glass jar had exploded leaving his bedroom looking like a violent crime scene, lol.

I believe the big yellow spider Ken is talking about is the Golden Silk Orb Weaver! We have tons in FL. I know those spiders hang their webs low because lots of flying insects they prey on fly around those heights too! It’s like a big net trap 😂 for our faces.
I love them, so beautiful, we have them here in AZ. I think they sit in the center of the web specifically to help us see them, and other large animals. I've never run into one even un dim lighting, because the big spider right in my face warns me before I can run into it. And I try to never walk around near trees or between walls and corridors in the dark without a light to see anything in front of me. In fact the only time I did walk into a web, it was because it was at leg level between a bucket and a plant, instead of face level where I could see it. Luckily I only bumped it with my leg and didn't actually walk through it. But it actually wound up being a closer call because it was too low.
I'm so happy y'all are doing this channel. I got a short from them about what their Christmas dinner looks like and I was so dumbfounded my first thought was "is this real?" And my second was "Ken and Dane need to see these"

Ken not knowing what botulism is makes me sad. I thought this was considered food safety 101 and right next to salmonella. Botulism is why you don't use food from cans that are swollen or have liquid shoot out or foam when you first open it.
For whole fresh garlic, it is recommended that you keep them on the counter or pantry. A dry environment makes them last longer. JARED garlic however, is a different matter. It has been chopped up, and preservatives have been added along with water too. The added water context to the ‘jarlic’ makes it susceptible to botulism, as well as raw garlic with preservatives just has a higher chance in general. It’s why in all condiments that have garlic boast about their ‘roasted garlic’ this and that, because they can’t add raw garlic to it, due to its high chance of turning into a dangerous contamination. But whole fresh garlic is okay to store at room temperature. But as soon as you cut into it and compromise the skin, then it will need to be refrigerated. Also raw garlic is okay to eat on something like garlic bread, as long as it’s consumed immediately after cutting up. Though, most people cook it to take off the burning edge raw garlic can have.
My mother actually makes this dish every Thanksgiving but she uses shredded cheese and crushed Ritz crackers over the pineapple. It’s like one of those things salty and sweet things. She calls it pineapple casserole. It sounds disgusting but it’s actually not as bad as you’d think.

Lucky he learned how to make pancakes pretty quick and just woke me up to feed me pancakes. Honestly though, milk and maple syrup do kinda taste like caramel when mixed together XD.
This one is similar to pineapple au gratin that my family makes. But we mix cheddar cheese into the pineapple and sugar and then we crush up Ritz and mix them with butter to make a crust on the top. I'm not gonna lie it's pretty good lol. I used to be very against pineapples with cheese 😂 We also don't use the pineapple juice
Depending how old the mom is....maybe she grew up with parents that left that stuff out because most pickled items back in the day, as well as ketchup and some other things were left out. So perhaps she learned from them, but now it just isnt safe to do so. Though, Ive seen a few ketchup brands that say "Best if refrigerated after opening" which sounds like it could be left out. I just wouldnt take the chance with botchulism and other germies and bacteria that vould make you sick
Ketchup and mustard can both be left out. If you notice at almost any restaurant they will have their ketchup out all day(and usually overnight as well) I still put mine in the fridge but that's more for convenience so that it's with all the other condiments
seeing all these bad cooks on youtube make me feel so fortunate that i grew up in a family that knows how to cook and that they're teaching me how to cook!
No joke, my cousin used to make that pineapple, cheese, and ritz dish and bring them to the family Christmas party. She used shredded cheddar though. Delicious! It looked way better than this though lol

00:54 no need for refridgeration... you gonna finish those? I'm salivating over here
My brother and his best friend used to make "let's mix whatever we can find" boy r dee when we were kids. I may have been his older sister, but being 4am, and having been woken up out of a dead sleep, I had no chance at escaping guinea pigism. Lucky he learned how to make pancakes pretty quick and just woke me up to feed me pancakes.
Honestly though, milk and maple syrup do kinda taste like caramel when mixed together XD.
Are you trying to say "Chef Boyardee"? LOL "boy r dee".
My brother doesn't drink milk because he's lack toes in toddler ants.
I love watching Josh and Momma though they are so cute. They make some crazy concoctions for sure
I was hoping they would review these 2 😂
“It ain’t gonna slide down easy if it ain’t cheesy!”
This one is similar to pineapple au gratin that my family makes. But we mix cheddar cheese into the pineapple and sugar and then we crush up Ritz and mix them with butter to make a crust on the top. I'm not gonna lie it's pretty good lol. I used to be very against pineapples with cheese 😂
We also don't use the pineapple juice
You can hear her open the refrigerator to get the slice cheese out at 5:45 so you know that they really don't have it on the shelf
PLEASE keep doing videos of Josh and his Mama.
4:14 I’m suspicious, this stuff appears to be placed for the video because there’s condensate on the sauce jar as if it’s been taken out of the fridge
for a second i thought kays cooking finally caught up with her 0:24
shes not eating it herself tho 😂
I LIVE for Josh’s Momma! ❤❤ she seems so sweet ☺️
I don’t think she’s that old
Ketchup and mustard can both be left out. If you notice at almost any restaurant they will have their ketchup out all day(and usually overnight as well)
I still put mine in the fridge but that's more for convenience so that it's with all the other condiments
She’s not that old.😂
Love how even the Josh guy is reluctant to eat it. Momma's tastebuds must be gone
seeing all these bad cooks on youtube make me feel so fortunate that i grew up in a family that knows how to cook
and that they're teaching me how to cook!
Ken: “Botulism? What is botulism?”
DO YOU SERIOUSLY NOT REMEMBER THE CHEF PI FIASCO?!
No joke, my cousin used to make that pineapple, cheese, and ritz dish and bring them to the family Christmas party. She used shredded cheddar though. Delicious! It looked way better than this though lol
My Southern grandmother made that pineapple casserole EVERY Thanksgiving or holiday family gathering as well! She also used shredded cheddar as well and I remember loving it as a kid!
I love Josh and Momma..she is actually a healthcare professional..that poor woman doesnt seem to own any spices either..but she is open to trying new recipes..
How are they not sick? That’s crazy leaving all that stuff out.
I love Josh and Momma - I feel for their hearts though…. DO NOT WATCH HER MAKE THANKSGIVING 😂
@medina__anidem I’ve seen the crap you write. I’ll believe in Josh and Momma over you everyday of the week. You live off hate, it’s not good. We have enough hate today - stop being the problem.
you know that pineapple casserole would actually be really good! if you didn't bake it and removed the cheese and crackers ♡
I hate pineapple, but even I would prefer this way.
so just pineapple with raw flour?
@@_korbo_ exactly! ♡
i forgot about that part oops, i meant just pineapple and sugar
sounds about white
Ken was so respectful pulling up those spider photos on another monitor and preparing Dane before putting them on his screen
I'm so glad to have you back!!! Things have been kinda rough since you left... Now, I have my coping mechanism back 💚
10:54
BuFF: 😮 😯 😲
Just realized this is the first CTK video I’ve watched on my birthday so the classic “happy birthday” at the end made me 🥹🥹🥹 love you dad and Dane 💛
Happy birthday!
10:30 his butt looks like a little kiwi XD
As soon as I heard the accent, I KNEW some shenanigans was about to go down
"ZERO sugar;
- yeah, ZERO interest."
😄💗
10:30 Furrow spiders I believe! We have them all over the place. On all our windows, on the porch. Love them!
Can feel the good energy and chemistry in this. Love you guys \o/
I love Josh and Momma’s channel!
We need more Kay in our lives.
Gramma Arlene has been asking where the laughing guys were... she missed me watching you laugh 😅
Happy 2024 yall
"YOU GOT THE WHOLE UP THERE, GET AWAY FROM ME!!" - Buffs greatest quotes on spooders 😂😂
What a Lovely intro with the hacking into the microphone..Mirror check! 😂
The glass at the bottom of the pizza sauce jar is frosty from condensation, and there are little water droplets at the top that wouldn't be there if it was always kept at room temp.
