try opening the taps at the lowest point first to push air out at that level followed in order until you reach the outlet that is the highest. all air should be pushed out
Thank you! Note: when you flush the toilets for the first time it’s best to slightly press the handle/button to let the water refill slowly cause if you just flush them normally, it will seem like your toilet is about to explode!!!
I've been having that knocking for almost a year so when I changed the cartridge for the shower cause it was leaking I had to turn off the main line so I decided to try your advice drained all water from all faucets upstairs and even down stairs and I have to thank you it worked that blasted knocking is gone 👍
When you got a partially turned on faucet and you have the loud vibrating that is not water hammer. Its a loose washer either on the faucet or on the supply stops. Water hammer is when you shut a faucet real quick, or when your washer or toilet fills etc. you have a loud bang.
Hi Thanks for your comment! The loose washer combined with the water hammer effect causes a phenomenon called hydraulic ram which is the vibrating sound you hear. The root cause is still water hammer. Thank you for watching tho! Check out this video for more information ua-cam.com/video/zFdyqTGx32A/v-deo.html
Do you have to repete this process ever? And if so, how often? Weekly, monthly, yearly? I will try this... it was whisling and low pressure. I changed the spray hose and now it is hammering. There seems to be a small leak from the handle of the new hose/handle combo. I will address the leak first, then the hammering if it persists! Thanks!
We had a leaky shower I had to fix and since then we got pretty loud water hammer. Not constant vibration like you showed but just a few knocks after the water was shut quickly from faucets. I tried this and it worked like a charm! I was about to buy 2 $60 water hammer arrestors and you saved me all that money. Thanks so much!

I have water hammer sound only when I use my instant hot water tap. So do I still have to shut off the water to my house and turn on all the faucets ?? I have 4 bathrooms- 3 showers and 5 sinks + a laundry room sink and kitchen sink plus instant hot water.
Once drained close all taps that were opened, then turn the water main back on? I would assume that air will come through first prior to water? Should this be done at the highest or lowest point?
@@ThePunggolHandyMan now my only question is if you close everything and turn the water on wouldn’t that also trap air? I’m not a plumber, but I would think that if you turn the main on slowly and leave everything open, then all the air would push out if that makes any sense? Lol.
Yes as I have mentioned in the video this is no way a permanent fix. You have to find the faulty component and address it. This gives you temporary relief from the rattling
this just started happening in one of my restroom shower faucet! I don't think it's the lowest point, nor the highest point... is there a reason why it's happening there? thanks!
The problem is usually due to a faulty valve in one of the tap. Good to have isolation ball valves in every tap. Shut each isolation valve and find the fault.
Help! I live in a mobile home and have pex pipes. After I run the water at my kitchen sink (mainly the hot water) there's knocking/thumping sounds coming from under my dining room floor. I've had the pressure valve changed and lowered water pressure from 100 to 63 but it did not help. It also happens sometimes even when l'm not running the water. This may not be related, but coincidentally around the same time the thumping sound started my floor boards in dining room started to make creaking/snapping sound. Do vou have an idea of what could be causing the knocking/thumping sound under my floor?
This may be caused by the ram effect. I have a similar setup with my portable sink and it is due to the pressure buildup from the water pump. I dobt have a water hammer arrestor in that setup ant it might explain the knocking. You may try getting a small water hammer arrestor installed and seeing if that helps.
I installed a pressurized tank…everytime the refilling is done there is a thud noise in storage tank while the pipe is vibrating..is this water hammer ? and how can this be avoided
Can you help with this? We came home with Sunday afternoon. We live in a condo community. We came home to the walls vibrating noisily . The neighbor had been snaking the pipe in his shower. After an hour we went and knocked on the door. He said that he actually stopped an hour before. But the knocking continued. We turned off our toilet water, and it stopped. We turned it back on and then knocking returned, as well as, the toilet refilling slowly while making a whining noise. Will an arrestor work for that? (And would the neighbor snaking his shower pipes affect ours?)
.A new faucet (a dual spray switch tap that allows to switch between a strong shower setting, and normal stream setting) is installed downstairs. Whenever the downstair neighbor switches to strong flow setting I hear a high pitched water stream noise in my kitchen. The below neighbor uses the high flow setting quite often in the day, and it affects my ears as I have an ear condition called tinnitus. But it's loud enough that even someone without tinnitus would find it annoying (the nails against chalkboard type of sound)..why the noise is coming, Really appreciate any help, thank you!
You need a plumber to have a look and you guys should figure out how to split the cost.. you may install a water hammer arrestor and it should solve your problem

The idea of this fix is to PUT AIR into your plumbing system (to absorb the water-hammer vibrations). SO, after you drain the water (to put air into your system) should you close your HIGH POINTS first before closing your low points (to trap the air in the system?). Thank you! 👍👍
I’m a bit confused with what you mean by lowest and highest point? I’m on a single story home and everything is basically on the same level. I had our gas internal instantaneous hot water system repaired recently and after a week or so I notice significant hammering around the home and near the unit itself when we shut off any tap at a normal speed. Why is he sporting a surgical mask?
Because
Ok the vibration is none stop in the bathroom and it is really killing me
This is a quick fix and meant to be temporary. The fault should be in a faulty valve somewhere.
If I turn off the tap very slowly there is no hammering.
I’m hoping to fix this problem or else I must call a plumber.
Good content. Good to try this
Thank you !
Awesome
