I don't know if it's just me who sees/hears this but the way his mom talks about him makes me think she didn't actually care about him. I could just be looking too hard but she probably wasn't the best mother to him. I feel like she's the type of mom who encourages their child to kill themselves when they tell her they have suicidal thoughts.

I had an ex that went through similar trauma, and ended up being just as messed up as he was. I can confirm his mom was the main issue and made his mental issues worse. The problem could've been fixed if his mother mothered a bit more. Also, love your videos!

6:40 Yeah, you have to be 18+ to get diagnosed with BPD (even though there has been rare, extreme cases of people getting diagnosed at 16+), so they usually diagnose the kid with DMDD (and sometimes misdiagnose them with bipolar disorder) if you're underaged, so he definitely was gonna get that BPD diagnosis once he hit 18. I couldn't get diagnosed myself with it until I had turned 19 even though I was showing signs of having BPD since I was like 16.

He didn't kill people over MLP. There was more things going on in his life and in his head that lead up to this. He was struggling with many mental issues and trauma, and nobody gave him the support and therapy he needed. The way I see it, MLP was the only thing that brought him comfort and joy. It might seem silly to you, but it was something very important to him. He didn't exactly kill people directly because of the loss of apple jack. Intense feelings slowly built up over time, the loss of apple jack is just what happened to make him snap.

It's really sad that he was able to reach out to my little pony as a emotional support system but wasn't able to concur his deamons. As an adult with PTSD from sexual trauma MLP is a huge comfort for me. Most TV shows have no regard for how graphic and sexual the depictions of sexual abuse are. These kind of scenes are more often than not shot from the perspective of the rapist so it's extremely "sexually appealing" the second I head from a young age he would wear multiple pairs of shorts makes me think he was probably sexually abused. His anger and violence to this extent don't make sense unless there was something to that extent that happened to them. His mother should be locked up for getting him a firearm and giving him unlimited access to it. They knew he was going to do something terrible but chose to ignore it.
Unfortunately this kid is a prime example of why we have to help those who feel rejected. He was screaming for help but no one was listening. I was also in counseling for a long time 8-18 and all they did was gaslight me and make things worse. This kid was emotionally beaten down at every turn yet they expect him to be able to function?? Why do you think we have so many violent adults in the U.S.? This wasn't a freak accident, this kid tried and tried to get help but his mom was emotionally unavailable, his counselor wasn't doing their job, his teachers couldn't give a shit. I was never told about my sexual abuse I had to figure it out from the constant nightmares that still won't let me sleep. Most kids who do get abused the parents/counselors refuse to tell them what happened. All that does is make the survivor feel crazy because they're always afraid of getting hurt but don't know where the fear is coming from. So many situations like this could've been easily prevented if the adults in his life took him and his trauma seriously

My perspective on his mother is more sympathetic because of my own experiences. My father would constantly threaten to kill himself if my mother left him, even go so far as to attempt suicide twice to keep her on the hook when he thought she was close to actually leaving. He was an abusive asshole who'd only say that to guilt my mother into staying, and it worked way longer than it ever should have.
Eventually my mom got fed up and finally left, and when he called her and texted her saying he'd kill himself over and over she eventually just started replying "fine, do what you want". He never did, he's still kicking to this day. Its sad, but enough abuse from someone can make you very unempathetic to their words.
Brandons mom kept fighting for him to get therapy, taking him to multiple places to try helping him get better. Unfortunately some people really just cant be helped no matter how much you try. (Also the mental health care displayed in this video for him was a joke, the system is fucked and there really isn't much any normal person can do about that)
Of course, I could be wrong. The opposite could very likely be true, she definitely could have been a terrible mom. But I don't know the full story so this is just my thoughts.
You wrote pretty much everything I wanted to say but much better. The way the mom responded to the dad sounds like it's not the first time he has said it. And without knowing more info that doesn't make her bad in my opinion.
It seemed less like that Brandon could not be helped, but that the system just did not help him at all. They seemingly only diagnosed him and didn't provide him with the stuff that he truly needed, seemingly just a diagnosis and basic therapy ? The law enforcement also was equally lazy it seems, only "checking up" on him, and then failing to recognize what was truly going on.. which is not as much of a suprise, since law enforcement is notoriously terrible about handling people with mental illness or other neurodivergent conditions, but its still incredibly sad and tragic. People had to die because systems had failed... i have empathy for the mother, i dont know how good of a parent she truly was, but she did seem to at least try (which is unfortunately more than you can say for most parents).

As someone who has mental and personality issues as well as violent tendencies, I definitely see where his problems all started from. However, just because he had a tough life doesn’t excuse the fact that he killed people. Whether or not you were yourself in that moment in time or not does not matter. In the end you killed someone. Similarly to how I get into fights with people when Im not myself(basically like two people in one body with two different minds), although I’m not aware of what happened and wasn’t conscious during it, I still chose to engage in a fight.
13:00 where is indicated that Brandon was rejected from society, and being treated unfairly, and so on and so forth. And at that part I feel bad, because I know what it’s like to be rejected and treated unfairly and it it hurts, and it really changes of who you are so with that being said, I assumed maybe his personality change all that because he was rejected and treated unfairly all his life into something more sinister or maybe he wasn’t clear in his head. I don’t know I’m still trying to figure it out.
This case sinks into my thoughts deeply…

They might be referring to the transition to Generation 5 MLP. Generation 5 MLP supposedly takes place in the same universe as Generation 4 MLP (the one he's obsessed with) except thousands of years in the future. So all of the characters from Generation 4 are dead.
This is just sickening cases like these are so unbelievably surreal and the fact that he was a kid is worse....I sometimes wonder why he's like this. This is why I don't see my little pony the same way anymore....

Wow, over MY LITTLE PONY? I mean people die every day over some ridiculous stuff or major stuff, but this is beyond unbelievable… Eight people lost their lives because someone was in desperation, and have anger over a toy/movie, wow… and I think I’ve heard about him, but that’s beyond bizarre.
This case is genuinely sickens me, it could be as to him going through something in his disorders/illness or whatever the case might be, that is still NO excuse for committing multiple crimes over something that is not important, a toy/movie really?

I find it weird that the mother, even though she tried to warn law enforcement of the potential danger her son was to himself and those around him, she didn't sound like she cared for him, just herself. The way she talked about the father's suicide, and how she encouraged her son's threat to follow in his footsteps, just sounded so flat and apathetic about it. I think she only cared about her own safety, not her son's well being, from the sound of it. It all comes from bad parenting, or lack of.
As for the MLP stuff, here's my take as someone who's familiar with MLP lore within and outside the show:
- I'm pretty sure the Applejack plush on his bed is a s*x toy. Yes, unfortunately those are a thing. Custom plush dolls of MLP characters made for that specific purpose.
- MLP was his coping mechanism.
- Applejack never died, at least on screen. By the end of MLP Friendship is Magic, there's a time skip in the final episode that shows all the characters aged up. I didn't watch generation 5, the newest MLP, but I know it takes place in the FAR future, which means everyone from generation 4 died of old age, including Applejack.
i remember watching this case years ago, glas its being recognised. its so upsetting how children feel the need to be like this, after all they just need help that they dont get it. its still sick though.

4:04, I also lost my father to suicide and I can say for a fact that during a custody dispute, people throw out a lot of threats to avoid losing custody. My dad also threatened suicide in response to it multiple times but only carried it out once. I don't blame her for sort of not taking the threat seriously as there was probably a bad family situation she was trying to get her son out of.
Also the system makes it incredibly difficult to get proper help psychologically for children. I have 10 mental disorders including OCD, Anxiety disorders and depression and my mom had an incredibly hard time getting me any assistance when I was an adolescent. I don't think it's fair to automatically blame her parenting when the video said she had to work very hard to get him in front of a professional. I definitely wouldn't blame the mother when it's very clearly the system refusing to be accessible or effective for him. The professionals absolutely failed both him and his mother, but that doesn't excuse what he did either way. You can be mentally ill and not kill people.

I'm autistic and I knew within less than a minute of watching that video that he was autistic(being literally obsessed with 'My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic', rocking back-&-forth, wearing multiple layers of clothes due to his skin being sensitive to certain types of fabric), in addition to having OCD(which I also have and which very commonly co-occurs with autism) and being mentally ill. It's so obvious! How in the actual f@@@ did he not get an autism diagnosis and why in the actual f@@@ did so many people ignore the tell-tale signs that he was dangerously mentally ill?!
