    I use the Galaxy Tab A in splitscreen landscape mode. Uber on the left, WAZE on the right. I have it mounted on the plexiglass screen where my speedometer is located, right behind the steering wheel. I use a telescoping magnetic mount to hold it in place. It works really good.

    I got a Samsung Galaxy 6 Tablet and got this wild hair, brain scheme and thought about using it as my Driver screen. I didn't know if anyone else was doing it, so I did a UA-cam search. You gave some good info too. All I need now is a Drink/cup holder cell/tablet holder and I'll be all set. Thanks for the video. It helped a lot 😊

    I use an iPad Mini 4 and love it. I started using a tablet after about week 2 of driving. I've been driving for almost two yrs now. My first tablet was an LG 4. It worked fine but I liked the idea of my tablet and phone , an iPhone 6s, being able to "talk" to each other. So, I treated myself to an iPad Mini 4 for my birthday. Anyway, with the change Uber made where every call has a number change, it was so easy when I just had 2 numbers programmed into my iPhone, I now have to go to the "message" screen in the app on my tablet and then put the number into my phone to call the pax. It's a little more work, but not enough to give up my tablet. That 4x6 map instead of a 1x2 is so much safer when driving, especially at night or in bad weather. I secure my tablet and phone with the "no nonsense " magnets that I adhered to my dash. They work great. I enjoy listening to books on cd, when I'm between riders, so the cd mount won't work for me. Get a tablet, life is so much easier with one.

    I run Uber and Lyft at same time using Mystro on a Galaxy Tab 4 and a wifi hotspot. Works great for me and keeps my phone free of Uber stuff. When you are my age, looking at my Galaxy S7 phone would be impossible without reading glasses but I have my Tab 4 mounted at arms length and can read it with zero problems, day or night. Would not have it any other way.

      @@mikad2054 I used to use Mystro but about 4 years ago they screwed up the app IMHO. I put my iphone into WI-Fi Hotspot mode and then recognize it on my tablet. The tablet sits on a mount I have in my vehicle and these old eyes don't have to strain to use it. The tablet works just like any phone would with the app. The only thing that is different is when you call a passenger or answer a call from a passenger. It is handled by my other android main phone, not my tablet. I have 2 phones and a tablet with me at all times. One is my personal phone and the iphone is my company phone for my employer. Works great for me.

    I have been using a tablet for over a year now, bought a samsung Galaxy tab E with a 9" screen, and I love it, have a Nissan altima and it fits right over the storage bin and I use the door to lock it in so it actually looks like it part of the car.

    I have been using a tablet for well over a year and a half. I like the fact that the maps show up so much better on the tablet. With lift I can have the app open on my phone and on my tablet at the same time. This makes it easy to contact the passenger plus the phone doesn't go in navigation mode and so I can always see the street address where I'm supposed to pick up my passenger. I only wish / would allow me to have the Uber app on the phone and the tablet at the same time for that very reason. As far as making a phone call on a tablet I use an app called Tablet Talk it seems to work fairly well.

    Hi, Uber Man. In light of the development of the Mystro app, which seems like a great app, I would like to consider tablets that have the (most) current Android OS (7.0 - Nougat), so at to not be forced to a new tablet when the Mystro and/or Lyft and/or Uber apps demand an OS newer than what the tablet will be able to support. Any recommendation on 8" tablets, with this concern in mind?

  • @drew_w1586

    I use both platforms Uber/Lyft on my iPhone 8 and iPad gen 7 with T-Mobile as the carrier.
    When times are slow in the SF Bay Area, I utilize both devices at the same time. I turn on Lyft on my phone (requires phone call to cancel no show rides) and Uber on my pad. One thing I really like is Lyft allows multiple devices on for instance: I mostly use my phone for the pings and the directions to the pickup. As soon as I pick up the rider I turn on the Lyft app on pad. Much larger screen (I have had complements that all drivers should do the same/no more squinting at small screen/ This is not a Tesla! Nice addition) and being its in the middle of my dash riders can see the route I am taking to feel at ease or correct direction. Uber sees multiple devices as a threat as someone’s account being hacked.
    Uber on the other hand is experimenting/implemented an option to do a call or a free data call (data call doesn’t always work) to call riders.
    This is all so surprising as all all apps I run. On my phone I have a few apps tracking mileage/location(MileIQ, Firefly, ...) while running a dash cam app. iPad is running an app that can control LED lights under seats, stream music all day, to a rare occasional game at a red light w/out passengers of course.
    A few things I really don’t like (I guess you can call it OCD or extremely annoying):
    1) setting up WiFi calling on pad or even alerts to ring through speakers which either turns down music or completely stops it/then need to rest after call.
    2) When I need to make a call from Uber app that didn’t work.

    I used my Tab 4. The one thing you didn't touch on is the fact that they still need to have the phone that is tied to their Uber account because when the pax calls or texts it will go to that phone.

    • @AutoAuctionRebuilds
      @AutoAuctionRebuilds  9 років тому

      Lenoy Woolridge True, I'd assume they will still have the phone on them, most people don't go anywhere without it, and as I said, it has to be tethered to the phone for data.

      Yeah unless you have one like mine which had t-mobile data stand alone. True though but I say it because I have 2 phones I use and I left the wrong one at home and had to change my number on my uber account to get pax calls lol!! Made for a long night.

    I use the Galaxy 10.1 and get nothing but RAVES about it.My passengers love the fact that it is safer than looking at the phone. Now with Mystro, I think it is the best setup as now you have the rating filtering, and everything on one device (I would run lyft on my phone and Uber on the tablet as Uber does not allow you to switch devices).
    As for texting and calling, I use google voice and I am able to text from the tablet. I can then call through my phone if needed.

    Started using the tablet as well. Couple of things to note:
    If it's used strictly for business, it's a complete tax write off. If you use it for personal as well, you have to segregate your usages. I went ahead and got a data plan. I can write it off as well as the tablet. just deduct the cost of the plan. We're 1099'd so make sure that you use all your deductions that you can or you will be paying that 15.6% federal taxes. Bloomberg.com has lots of tax hints.
    As for mounting, I use Ram Mount. it's a bit more pricey, but extremely stable. I was involved in an accident in my work truck (Dodge 2500). Had my laptop in the mount. When the guy hit my stopped truck at 75MPH, the PC stayed in the mount. Don't ask me how, but I was sold. They have various styles of mounting and can be found reasonably priced if you look on line.

    I agree - I have used a tablet for driving most of the 2 years that I drove for Uber. Uber doesn't really want anyone to use a tablet for driving. I believe that it is not possible to install uber driver on an ipad. I received an ipad mini from a drawing Uber had while I was driving in Charleston, and I tried to install Uber partner on it, with no success. I finally bought an android 7" tablet from T-Mobile while they were having a promotion, and have been using that ever since. Works Great.
    Someone asked below about contacting riders. Used to be, there was ONE phone number that would always be forwarded to your current rider. It was EASY the, - I just used my uber number and was always able to contact my current rider. They now changed the system so every rider has a new number, from a group of about a dozen numbers for my area. Now I have to look up the number on my tablet, then dial it on my phone. I have all those numbers saved on my phone under a contact named " Uber Rider". I can pull up that contact, then select the number I need - quicker and more accurate than entering the entire number. Once I have sent a message, it is easy to go back to the message app for subsequent messages or calls.

When I open the user driver app on my phone I get the option to set up music, yet on the tablet the option doesn't appear? Is there a work around or a way to connect both devices at once? If i used an Ipad 4 Mini which would have its own phone number, how would i be able to text/call my rider when needed? I dont mind buying whatever is needed because i have trouble seeing that small map at night, but i am really confused about how this would work out. I dont want to but high dollar equipment and then find out i got the wrong thing. Please help me. Another video maybe? Thanks. Muleskinner

    How much data are you using tethering like that?? I have probably 3-4 tablets laying around the house and was thinking about hotspotting my iphone.. we already burn through over 15g a month (7 year old daughter that's all i have to say about that)..

    • @AutoAuctionRebuilds
      @AutoAuctionRebuilds  9 років тому

      Rick Wooley It uses the same as if you use your phone to Uber. No change in data usage at all.

    Hey Randy, I get all this tethering stuff. But, can you go about different ways to get data from your phone? Like, Is this something I need to add to my service plan? I have Iphone with sprint with everything unlimited data. WOuld tethering be included? How I go about tethering my Ipad to my Iphone?

    • @AutoAuctionRebuilds

    • @VAswang
      @VAswang 8 років тому

      Miguel T. Usually tethering is a separate service. Like $30 or so. It's not included with your standard unlimited plan. Now, if you jailbreak your iPhone, you can install tethering apps that will allow you to use your phone as a hotspot without the tethering charge!

I was told tabs can't do phone calls so i need both phone and tab. Does anyone show how to set up my tab so my lyft Company adds it for me to accept rides. Will it then show up on my phone and tab at the same time? I was told I stll need my phone to call a customer when there aren't showing up on time? Thanks
