As a long time furniture builder and hand tool woodworker/ tool junkie, your instructions are both spot on and pertinent, sir. Kudos to you!

I have a metal soled coffin plane. It looks like someone used a saw blade to repair the worn out sole. It's not great, but it has a nice Sorby blade in it and I reach for it occasionally.
    Thanks for the video!

You are so right, they are a joy to use as they also have thicker irons so theres less chatter. Great video !!!

    Wooden plains for the win.
I have never used a metal one.
(Possible never even held one now that I think about it)

Wow, that's pretty rare nowadays. I really enjoy usung my wooden ones and I guess I use them 50:50 with my iron ones.

I've one of these, but without a cap iron.
    What's the disadvantage?

A chip breaker deflects the shaving as it comes up the blade. This puts tension on the fibers and makes them cut more cleanly, which reduces the blade digging in and tearing out, but a tight mouth and/or a steeper bedding angle can do the same, so it's not necessarily a large disadvantage.

    What is its bed angle

Here's one of those Japanese thinnest shaving competitions: ua-cam.com/video/6Ubv3kS9fhs/v-deo.html
