It is not so hard not to get scammed, just ignore all street sellers, that try to talk to you on the street. Also make sure you do not need anything, like do not get stuck on an airport without transport to your hotel, because locals will know that will happen and they scam you. Hey Nick, I want to thank you and express gratitude for your honest, respectful, insightful and fun reflections about the places you visit, especially Egypt. Your genuine love for travel, culture and people comes across effortlessly at a time when people across the world are in desperate need to connect, understand and respect one other. Traveling to Egypt without a travel agency in style and luxury is not easy but as you've shown it has its own special rewards. Egypt is grappling to undo decades of political and social problems that impact its own natives as well as its visitors. But we also have, not just in our deserts and oases, but inside us countless treasures to share with the world. I'm glad to have stumbled across your vlog and once again thank you.

i cant imagine walking up to a foreigner/stranger in my country and asking to take a selfie, like whats the point, why would i want a photo of someone i don't know XD
I really like how you express a whole story in each experience good and bad! Sorry if you got scammed and it probably happened a lot in Egypt but the way you put in your stories is unique, it reminds me of national geographic but in your own special way! You make it as if I am walking down the street myself! Wish you have more good experiences and keep it up..
@@nakkadu Compared to that shit they were eating on the street...it's heaven. In America, its juts one step up from a fast food restaurant like McDonald's. It's a great place to hang out and drink and watch sports. Some people think of it as a sport's bar. Some people think of it as a family restaurant. Our sport's bars and pizza joints are better than most top food places in 3rd world countries.
I’ve been Egypt twice. Both times I experienced things i never experienced in other countries shops. I had large notes only of Egyptian cash. On both my journeys they offered me to take the items without paying and told me to come back later and pay when I have correct money. It wasn’t the same shop both times. It was actually two different locations. This is something you don’t come across always. First time I agreed and made sure I went back. The following time I put back the items and came back to the shop later on with change. However that’s not to say taxi drivers and other people don’t try to rip you off with price. Worst country I’ve been to in terms of Scams is Turkey Istanbul. Watch out of Taxi drivers. Pay them one note by note or they’ll quickly swap large notes for small ones and trick you with a blink of an eye. Crazy.
I'm Egyptian. I go back for visits sometimes and even I see people try to scam me. Why? It's because if I say I'm from America or if I'm dressing like an "American they try to take advantage. You just have to keep an open mind in front of people and show them you know what's going on
I’m glad you found trustworthy locals! I’m Egyptian but I live in the states so I have a heavy American accent when I speak Arabic which is a dead giveaway I don’t live there. so I always make sure to bring a family member with me so I don’t get scammed 😂
Awesome video! Thank you so much for sharing this. I’m an Egyptian but I live in New Zealand. You have such a beautiful country and I love your scenery. Hopefully one day I get to share my experience and the beauty of your country in a video on UA-cam!
If you want to go to a good place like the museum or the castle tell me and i will take you there . And dont worry i will not ask you for anything just for fun 😃😃
Sorry for that but that's not how all the people look like in Egypt, these Scammers are few, but commonly at the Pyramids, but the other Egyptians are all good people who care about everyone. Its just like 90% good people and 5% scammers.
Hey nick, what program do you use for music? I can’t help but notice you always have good montage music and I’m wondering if you find it for free or do you use epidemic sound?
Scams I experienced in Egypt: No. 1: "Welcome to Egypt, where are you from? I'm a teacher and want to teach my students something about your country. You come into my place?" (it's a shop) No. 2: "Welcome to Egypt. Here take this as a gift. No, no. It's free, you don't need to pay. (3 minutes later) I'm so poor and I need to feed my family. Can you give me some money?" (No.) (takes the "gift" back) No. 3: "Hello. You live in that hotel? (Yes) I've seen you at the breakfeast. I work in the kitchen. My boss sent me to buy safran from the market. You come with me?" (happened to me three times each day. Some day I just answered that they use a lot of safran, because their friend already told me the same story 10 minutes before. The safran market is of course a tourist market with tourist prices.)
heeey, i am egyptian and i really liked ur video a lot, definitely not the scamming part :D i liked ur spirit handling the scamming situations, i have been working as a tourguide in egypt for 6 years and kinda understand those situations i have been travelling all over the world for the last few years and in the end came to the conclusion to be positive and focus on the good stuff of ur trips and learn from the bad ones and always face the scamming situations with a good smile :D
hi +indigo traveller, I'll be heading to Cairo for 4 days in October. I'm very curious about the taxi scamming in Cairo. do you have any advice? I'll mostly have my hotel get me a taxi, but when I am out and need to get back, just don't want to have a situation. thanks in advance.
Bry New York hello! I'd recommend downloading Uber application, so you don't have to worry about being scammed.. most of the white taxis, also, have a fare calculator based on the destination.. but I'm using Uber or another application, called Careem.. you can find both on the app store or the play store and they're very user friendly! Hope you enjoy your stay, here, and as Nick noted, just be cautious of any unexpected situation.
Bry New York before you ride any taxi ask the people around you how much they pay for going to the place you are heading... And i would prefer if you have any friend here in egypt ask him or her to guide you it would be much better
Get a sim card at the airport with internet. Getting from the airport to your hotel will cost you. Therafter Uber everywhere for a fraction of the price the hotel taxi's will charge. Travelling outside cairo, Take a bus. They can be booked online. Buy all tickets yourself to save big.
not all of the Egyptian are scammers . we have in egypt hospitality and kindness . if you needed any help over here i would love to help you and show you the real egypt
I am visiting Egypt soon with a friend - we are both from America and afraid of only seeing touristy places in Egypt just because we are ignorant of the "real egypt" you mentioned. Any advice for me before my travels to Cairo? Thinking of going to Alexandria but it will be February and coldish
I went Egypt hurghada in 2019 November. My hotel was essay hotel. See a taxi guy he pull over and ask me where I want to go? I said Sheraton Road he said come in! Then beeping his horn every second at everyone and talking shit. Anyway the car drive is 5 munchies away and when i got to my destination he try and say 5 hundred in Egyptian money! i said i don't think so I gave him sixty Egyptian because i got told by the workers in the hotel what to pay. Anyway he try and come out the car and start trouble then the Police come over and ask what happened? I talk to them and they told him to go away and not try and con me.

It is bettet to use Uber or karim companies where you can conplain about their drievers and maube suit and get good amount of money، BTH all of us sometimes do not be patient enough and try these scammers taxi drivers😂
Amr Abdelazeez i think this guy came to Egypt only to show how it looks very bad. He decided that before his coming. As I am seeying also he choosed only some bad places to record his vedio, although we have many good places. Every country in all the world has the same!.
Ola Barakat maybe you should have watched other videos he has...this was only a small event...why is it you're offended he showed the truth? Should he have hid it? Maybe you're upset because you're a scammer? Lol
@Joy Slmpson I think she/he is right on some points you see Egypt has many beautiful wonderful places and not everybody is a scammer, you know it's just there's these type of people here who want easy money so, conclusion is there's a lot yet to see and Cairo or Giza is not really a very good tourist attraction area in here soooo. THAT'S MY POINT OF VIEW
Been to Egypt around 10 years back . Had similar experience . There are more scammers because of the huge inflow of tourists for many years so they know all the loophole of how to scam. Nonetheless, it's an amazing country . I would love to visit it again :)
Traveling can be a bit random!! 😂 Flexibility, kindness & good, healthy boundaries are key. I’m glad things worked out in the end! Looked like a fun and bridge-building time, eventually. 😊👍🏼✌🏼
A friend of mine who is Egyptian was talking to a market stall guy. He saw a European walking past and said "you see that?, that's walking money, and I'm going to get it". He told me this, I'm British, and he said "I feel you need to know what they think of you" Egyptians are not intrinsically bad people. But you can't trust MOST OF them. I have lived in Egypt a year next week and honestly, I can count on one hand (and I won't even make it to 5) the people I trust with my life, wife, money and the key to my apartment here. Again, they are not naturally bad. But the tighter your lips, and the less you trust people here, the longer your sanity and money will last.
I can't really invite you to Syria 😃😄 Maybe in the near Future... The coastal Regions are the safest Homs and Damascus too but not everywhere in Damascus.
Amthal Sulaimān yes Syria had a lot of beautiful tourist places you could visit and for a cheap price. Now only god now's what's left. Hope there will peace in this country soon.

Egypt is a great country with a civilization and science and everything is a very good people but there are many poor and fraudsters because of poverty and do not blame them because of the economy or corruption in the country of the country of civilization 10 thousand years a great country in this world all countries of the world took the flag of Egypt and Iraq I am an original citizen of Canada from Libya, Egypt is considered compared to Libya. Per capita income in Egypt is $ 3500 per year and $ 45,000 per year for Libya. I hope that the people of Egypt will live in good financial condition.
I am very sorry for what happened to you in my country . And I wanna thank you because what you make here in UA-cam helps much more than what the government do to attract tourists
Obviously, a Great Empire came out of the Egyptians, and the Cushites ruled Egypt as well to the south. They have beautiful skin, and I don't understand why they think my white skin is beautiful. Egypt is on my list! As well as Lybia and Morocco!
Pero Perhan as for “white”, the concept of white and black in that way came into existence following the trans Atlantic slave trade. European origin people view anything that isn’t black or brown as white, for example light skinned Arabs, or Latinos. But we don’t consider ourselves white. And if white European people were so good looking you wouldn’t bother with squats, tanning, eye makeup, dying hair dark and so on. Every place has beautiful people. And for the record most people find mixed raced people the most attractive. So calm down small man. If we wanted to be like you we would fuck you and procreate with you. It’s not difficult. You go around dividing the world into black and white. That’s how narrow minded you are. Lol.
Hey there, I'm Egyptian and I travelled around Europe since I was student in Germany and these things happened to me in Pairs, Berlin and Rome! I believe it is something that doesn't exist in small countries but in capitals you always face scammers, I met a guy who said that he is Muslim and spoke 2 words in Arabic as if he was trying to comfort me and in the end he ended up selling me fake silver things with the amount of 200 euros, I didn't really buy them but that was one thing in one if the capitals that I visited, I believe these things doesn't happen in small cities because they don't rely on tourism to gain money!
I traveled to Egypt and there is a lot scamming, which is why I highly suggest visiting and traveling with a LOCAL with you. My Egyptian friend took us to all the amazing places and helped avoid scams or other issues. Now I know not everyone knows a local Egyptian, but if you can, avoid traveling to Egypt alone as a tourist ...
Carolina Cuevas egypt is not the only place all around and in every country there are scammers especially go visit India or an Asian country they are the best at scamming people
But please don’t say a lot of scamming because every country there is lots of scamming it does not matter if you are poor or it’s a rich country most scammers target tourist that’s why there is a lot for people that travel to another country
Been to Egypt many times before for work and once for leisure .. Scam is a culture. Some people are good though specially educated young men who like to help and act decent to foreigners. What shocks me is how dirty the streets and neighborhoods are.. It changed a lot since 1990s.
Indigo Traveller yeah that’s def true. And tbh I had no idea it was that populated. That’s really fascinating. Estimates for the Greater Cairo area are as high as 20 million. That’s insane lol. My entire state in the US is around 10 million. LOL.
Dude..egypt is full of con artists. But that's only because of the poverty. The well heeled Egyptians are very nice ,generous and hospitable.. you kinda have to expect this whether it's Egypt, mexico,or italy.. it's the poverty my friend
Indigo Traveller my point is..... expect this in every 1st ,2nd, and especially a 3rd world country.. you're going to get scammed.. expect it and deal with it. Or just stay in New Zealand and close your channel. Or better yet just do an only new Zealand show. So you can stay in the confines and comfort of your own home
Indigo Traveller don't back down stupid... have the balls to not go back on your word.. I repeat if you can't take what the world is offering you. Stay the fuck home. And quit begging patrons for money. I've travelled the world on my own dime And I've lived abroad (Thailand, Philippines, cambodia) And I've adjusted to them because I know what to expect..
pedro Gomez You had a very strong and valid point to say, until you decided to ruin it with some cuss words and immatureness, If you watched the video you would understand and see the acceptance that he had and if you go through that comments you would see how he was defending Egypt and nothing else... you owe him an apology because he did nothing but good and said nothing but good too
In WW2 and for many years later the phrase ' Iv'e been jipped out of EG: £10 ' ( pronounced as the 2nd syllable of Egypt ) meaning, in modern phrase, Iv'e been scammed. That's where the saying jipped came from being that it was so common there.
They will rip you off if you're a foreigner. As an Egyptian, if you visit the Pyramids you pay 15 Egyptian pounds, as a foreigner you pay $200 USD. Taxis do the same thing as well as local sellers.
7:30 The man told you "Enta Asal" which translates to "You are honey", a very common Egyptian expression when you want to tell someone how sweet/funny/cute he is :)
Not sure how much I agree with this.. Unfortunately I really did have a love/hate relationship with the country. I honestly got excruciatingly tired of all the scammers at every step I took, culminating in me nearly losing my head when I was mocked by one of the locals for not wanting to pay his price because I was on a student/backpacker budget and he couldn't believe that I, as a westerner, wouldn't be throwing money around. Even just going for a walk/ head back to the hostel you would have a local walk along you for 15 minutes being polite and plugging their tours, only to tell you to fuck off when you kindly say no. I really can't say most of the country respects tourists and see us more as an ATM than anything - no country I've been to has had me continually annoyed from fending off what I encountered in Aswan, Luxor and Cairo. Two menus, right next to each other, one in Arabic with arabic prices and another in English with 2.5x the price is an absolute slap in the face to any tourist. God, even when I ordered a coffee I had to negotiate the price down - hell even in Abu Simbel the guy told me a price, then told me 10 pounds higher when I went to pay. Also locals finding it amazing how much the train tickets were for tourist compared to Arabs, which really felt more discriminatory than anything. I just have no idea why, when the dollar is so weak and the tourism industry is struggling that they persist with this.. there is no way I'd recommend my mates to go there over somewhere like Morocco or even Israel/Jordan. Also pissed me off when I had Felucca rides offered to me by six people when all I wanted to do was sit peacefully on the corniche in Luxor to see the sunset. Stuff like that seriously ruins the experience. Also seeing western women being called whores because they don't accept the advances of young guys in the street...which goes onto what I saw of the 20-something year old Egyptian guys still being overtly misogynistic and extremely anti-semitic which is ironic because they have dreams to go to London or Paris where that would never fly. Alexandria was pretty legit though. Sorry mate but I really cannot get around you saying the scams are the equivalent of NZ. No way in hell but at least you have a much more positive outlook which never really hurts. Culturally/historical great. Foods not bad either.
Sorry for your hard times. But I never said they are equivalent, I said they come in different forms. This means that they are different. All the best ✌️
Nick first of all sorry you had to witness that If you need anything just write a comment in your fb page people will come for help in a matter of seconds with answers You should check your fb messages one egyptian site wrote about you I ve sent you the links God bless you man

I'm from Iraq and I never knew a single person in Iraq who visited Egypt and did not get his stuff stolen.
Damn
I had been scammed terribly many times in Cairo...
You have to take much caution in Egypt truly...
Sooooooooooooooooooo bad
These scammers in Egypt are few, but the whole other people respects Everyone, Sorry for that bad people 🙏
you're videos are super helpful and show the real side of a country from a kiwi perspective. from a fellow kiwi. safe travels!
i cant imagine walking up to a foreigner/stranger in my country and asking to take a selfie, like whats the point, why would i want a photo of someone i don't know XD
Thats degrading
This is because we do not see tourists every day
Different cultures, different traditions..
You surely haven't been to places like Nepal, Bangladesh, etc.. every few steps there people would stare at you as if you're an alien 🤣
The new generation in Egypt didn't use to see a tourists in Egypt, they are so fucking stupid
TGI Fridays? So you got scammed after all. LMAO
Authentic Egyptian mozzarella dippers
😹😹
I really like how you express a whole story in each experience good and bad! Sorry if you got scammed and it probably happened a lot in Egypt but the way you put in your stories is unique, it reminds me of national geographic but in your own special way! You make it as if I am walking down the street myself! Wish you have more good experiences and keep it up..
Thank you Sara❤️
"We're at a nice little restaurant." TGI Fridays. Hahahhahaha
Is TGI Fridays bad?
@@nakkadu Compared to that shit they were eating on the street...it's heaven. In America, its juts one step up from a fast food restaurant like McDonald's. It's a great place to hang out and drink and watch sports. Some people think of it as a sport's bar. Some people think of it as a family restaurant. Our sport's bars and pizza joints are better than most top food places in 3rd world countries.
John Doe I’m from America and that’s just false
Your taste buds or just made for French fries and beer
Nysha Reddy in Massachusetts T.G.I. Friday’s is not looked at as a nice restaurant
@@nyshareddy8751 agreed! TGI Friday’s is just eh. I’d much rather be eating local food than that half edible mess.
Crazy.
You have Taxi scammers everywhere not only in Turkey
I'm Egyptian. I go back for visits sometimes and even I see people try to scam me. Why? It's because if I say I'm from America or if I'm dressing like an "American they try to take advantage. You just have to keep an open mind in front of people and show them you know what's going on
I’m glad you found trustworthy locals! I’m Egyptian but I live in the states so I have a heavy American accent when I speak Arabic which is a dead giveaway I don’t live there. so I always make sure to bring a family member with me so I don’t get scammed 😂
Egypt wait you
Awesome video!
Its just like 90% good people and 5% scammers.
best 11 cent boat ride ever!

I recommened using uber other than random taxis.
Yeah, I use uber :)
Yep...we use Uber every time. Safest way.
in indonesia too, always use uber if you ever got there alone.
I only travel by submarine.
@Gerry Freeman Subermarine
Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences! Well done and very enjoyable.
heeey, i am egyptian and i really liked ur video a lot, definitely not the scamming part :D
i liked ur spirit handling the scamming situations, i have been working as a tourguide in egypt for 6 years and kinda understand those situations
i have been travelling all over the world for the last few years and in the end came to the conclusion to be positive and focus on the good stuff of ur trips and learn from the bad ones and always face the scamming situations with a good smile :D
hi +indigo traveller, I'll be heading to Cairo for 4 days in October.
Will Contant just wants to spitroast you with his mate...beware
Welcome to egypt indigo 💚

Lol, sorry for what happened to u. But in Egypt (and most of countries) u should ask two sources about the cost of anything. Welcome to Egypt
Great video mate! 👌
Man you should visit Alexandria its just 3 to 4 hours of Cairo but more quit than Cairo and people more friendly
George Ayman he goes and meets the locals that’s the point of his channel and if the locals are twats he will tell you
Been following you since the jump happy for your success I lived there 8 months
Thank you!
Enjoy your time in Egypt 💜
thanks!
Been to Egypt around 10 years back . Had similar experience . There are more scammers because of the huge inflow of tourists for many years so they know all the loophole of how to scam. Nonetheless, it's an amazing country . I would love to visit it again :)
Cheers Ahmed, great country is Egypt
Traveling can be a bit random!! 😂 Flexibility, kindness & good, healthy boundaries are key. I’m glad things worked out in the end! Looked like a fun and bridge-building time, eventually. 😊👍🏼✌🏼
Very true, Karin. Definitely bridge building(over the Nile) ;)
A friend of mine who is Egyptian was talking to a market stall guy. He saw a European walking past and said "you see that?, that's walking money, and I'm going to get it". He told me this, I'm British, and he said "I feel you need to know what they think of you"
Egyptians are not intrinsically bad people.
The coastal Regions are the safest
Homs and Damascus too but not everywhere in Damascus.
Would love to visit Syria, soon I hope.
Amthal Sulaimān yes Syria had a lot of beautiful tourist places you could visit and for a cheap price. Now only god now's what's left. Hope there will peace in this country soon.

Obviously, a Great Empire came out of the Egyptians, and the Cushites ruled Egypt as well to the south. They have beautiful skin, and I don't understand why they think my white skin is beautiful. Egypt is on my list! As well as Lybia and Morocco!
Fair enough mate.
Colonialism messes with the perception of self identity.
Pero Perhan not true in many cultures white skin looks like a dead or diseased body that's why white people tan so they don't look pale
Most of times Egyptians ruled the kushites. Kush ruled egypt for short period compared.

Carolina Cuevas egypt is not the only place all around and in every country there are scammers especially go visit India or an Asian country they are the best at scamming people
Ahmad Salah of course, which is why traveling to any country with a local is a good idea !
But please don’t say a lot of scamming because every country there is lots of scamming it does not matter if you are poor or it’s a rich country most scammers target tourist that’s why there is a lot for people that travel to another country
I love these videos, they always help me to decompress sometimes, and You can’t not like Nick! Thank you for everyone who makes these videos happen.

Been to Egypt many times before for work and once for leisure .. Scam is a culture. Some people are good though specially educated young men who like to help and act decent to foreigners. What shocks me is how dirty the streets and neighborhoods are.. It changed a lot since 1990s.
1:10 Cairo has absolutely more than 9,5 Mio inhabitants
Ok, provide your research.
Indigo Traveller worldpopulationreview.com/world-cities/cairo-population/
Indigo Traveller they have the fastest growing population in a city, in the world apparently.
Right, I guess it depends on if you are going for the metro population or not
Indigo Traveller yeah that’s def true. And tbh I had no idea it was that populated. That’s really fascinating. Estimates for the Greater Cairo area are as high as 20 million. That’s insane lol. My entire state in the US is around 10 million. LOL.
love your vlogs ...btw who added this hilarious Arabic captions to the vids :D ?
Dude..egypt is full of con artists. But that's only because of the poverty. The well heeled Egyptians are very nice ,generous and hospitable.. you kinda have to expect this whether it's Egypt, mexico,or italy.. it's the poverty my friend
What is your point here?
Indigo Traveller my point is..... expect this in every 1st ,2nd, and especially a 3rd world country.. you're going to get scammed.. expect it and deal with it. Or just stay in New Zealand and close your channel. Or better yet just do an only new Zealand show. So you can stay in the confines and comfort of your own home
Watch and listen to the whole video before jumping to what you think I think.

Be careful from Egyptian pple
In WW2 and for many years later the phrase ' Iv'e been jipped out of EG: £10 ' ( pronounced as the 2nd syllable of Egypt ) meaning, in modern phrase, Iv'e been scammed. That's where the saying jipped came from being that it was so common there.
Went to egypt 10 yrs back. Met some nice people also not so very nice people. Quite a lot of scammers. Other than that a lot to do in Egypt.
Omg It's ayaan yea as an Egyptian who never lived in Egypt, I always get ripped off and scammed there
Good video ! Any plans to visit Quebec/Montreal this year ?
Hey K Mac, not sure, why do you ask?
In the last video you mentioned your travel mate was French Canadian. I made the maybe dumb assumption he lived in Quebec and you may visit him there.
Somehow I'm getting the impression the friendliness isn't quite up to Iranian standards😊
Iranians great comedians, know how to have a good laugh, good mix for Brits
They will rip you off if you're a foreigner. As an Egyptian, if you visit the Pyramids you pay 15 Egyptian pounds, as a foreigner you pay $200 USD. Taxis do the same thing as well as local sellers.
Youngevity Cures foreigners pay 100 EGP and Egyptians pay 10 EGP please research before typing I hate when people don’t know and they write bullshit

"we have come to a nice little restaurant" ….TGI Fridays lol.
Yeah... hilarious!
