Man this chair is so famous, but I see it sold so rarely, even in construction or garden stores. Like they just spawn, nobody buys them, they just appear
It's exactly like plastic cups or plastic grocery bags. It's not the usefulness itself but the concept of getting it made more cheaply everytime and nonchalantly discarding it everywhere.
@@arzfan29 these chairs do seemingly last forever, thought. They might have been made to be cheap and disposable, but the disposability part doesn't seem to be the case.
These chairs are far more fragile than you are making out. The plastic is not often UV stabilised and as a result they become brittle and break after about five years of sun exposure…
They wouldn’t even last five years in Florida, I’d give them a year tops if they don’t get a ton of shade. Plastic flower pots that aren’t even touched only last 2 years here because of the sun. There are plenty of cheap aluminum chairs that actually last and don’t pollute the environment with micro plastics unlike these terrible chairs.
As someone who refuses to set in these chairs I can agree with you. My big nearly 300lb butt will most currently break it, as I've broken dozen of them before
When my dad was in the military, before he was deployed, one of his factory jobs was in a plastic production facility. He would wait for the mold to spit one of these chairs out and he would take the warm newly birthed chair and stack it in the corner with the rest, sometimes for 12 hours a day.
Kenya did it *12 years* before Germany? 🤯 As if it wasn't embarrassing enough that some people here blame Africa for environmental issues and famines 😪
@@LRM12o8Ironically, because of most of Africa having high poverty rates and not as much population and cities with tens of millions of people as other continents, they end up contaminating not nearly as much as North America or Asia in most areas.
The very first set of chairs we bought after getting married (almost 40 years ago) were of this kind. We decorated the rest of the room to match the style and were very proud of having them 😃
I crossed the Pacific Ocean on board a container ship and there several of these chairs on the decks immediately outside the passenger cabins. I asked the captain what they were for and he said they are to throw into the water if someone went overboard. Not for the person to cling to, but to mark the spot, as it would take several miles to make a 180 degree turn and get back to the location where the person fell in. So this chair could just possibly save lives. He also commented that if you ever witnessed this on a cruise ship or ferry, you should throw cushions or chairs into the water for the same reason. Hopefully this isn't why the one on the beach washed up though...
Yeah the ones I remember were always dirty, covered with spiderwebs, and I was always weary of sitting in them because of both the grime and the fact that they look so flimsy.
Oh this is my favourite chair. I have one that perfectly fits me. No armrests and very old pillow of mine and I have achieved the ultimate goal of ergonomics. No pain, forces me to move around a little after every 30 mins, supports my back even when it's injured.
@@balcorn9211 because it is not very grippy and moving a bit only requires me to sit up again. This makes sure I atleast change the way I sit every half an hour, usually more like every 10 mins. Very rarely (like once every month or two) do I ever sit for like 2-4 hours without moving. It's usually when I'm under stress of finishing a project and forget about time or when I'm way too much into a game or video.
This one truly is one of the chairs of all time. Rumor has it that if you see one of these somewhere, then a storm is definitely approaching, whatever that is supposed to mean.
Those are Keter chairs known for their use as a weapon. But in my community, when a public event is ended, many folks from the crowd helps to lift the chairs, put them on each other to make small towers, and bring them to one spot at the corner
Here is a thing: I had a red one since I was a baby. And I loved it. And still have great memories about it. 🤔☺️ The only thing I hated about other chairs like mine is, that I stress tested them by rocking back and forth, as well as twisting the back two legs until they broke and I landed flat on my a*s.
I still have mine around, and in the hall of my home too lol. I asked my mom just now if they had bought it when I was a tiny kid. She told me that back when my older brother was just under 3, one time when they visited a family friend's home, he saw this chair and didn't stop crying until he got it 😂. Their daughter was already 10, so she didn't mind it being taken. That means, this chair is atleast 30+ years old, and in pretty good shape I say. Feels amazing in a way 😆
I hate using these chairs for a few reasons. I don't like how it feels unstable (especially scooting it up to a table) when it is actually pretty stable. I don't fidget often but I can't help myself with the sharp flashing left on the edges. Lastly I just don't like the hard plastic, I greatly prefer folding fabric chairs or solid chairs with padding.
They are comfortable enough when relatively new or protected from the weather, on level ground, and thick enough to support the weight of the person sitting in them. But on slightly unlevel ground one leg can buckle, especially if the occupant is near the weight limit of the chair. Leaving them sitting out in the weather also weakens the plastic, making them more likely to break or buckle. They are good chairs, so long as they are taken care of and not overloaded and not used on inappropriate terrain.
