The Rattler POV - Six Flags Fiesta Texas (1998)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 вер 2024
- This is a full POV of The Rattler, which was located at Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio, Texas. The Rattler became a steel coaster in 2013. With that change came a new name: The Iron Rattler. Please note that the use of video cameras was allowed at the park during the time this video was shot.
Thank you RMC, for saving us from this monstrosity
Exactly! The original was so uninspiring. I don't even think the changes they were wanting to make, prior to RMC getting involved, would have helped. I believe they wanted to remove the helix section and replace it with a small out-and-back section.
If Chris was able to survive Son of Beast, Idk how he could survive this :D
@@TonyKimtheamusementparkfan funny you mention Son of Beast. Rattler and Son of Beast were both constructed by The Roller Coaster Corporation of America. You would have thought Kings Island would have found a more reputable company.
@@thesoftparade1990 RCCA always put a very cheap price tag on their shitty coasters
@WaterishDog that’s why parks bought arrow custom loopers, Vekoma SLCs, and RCCA woodies
The best part about this ride was standing at the bottom of that gully type thing that the first drop goes into and watching the track. I have never seen so much movement in a roller coaster. The track would literally sway a good foot or two back and forth at points. Now, wooden roller coasters are designed to flex and its taken into account, but it was actually scary watching this ride. Glad RMC overhauled it into something way more badass!
tankmaster1018 That was my favorite part too, exiting the Gully Washer ride, running to that area before The Rattler drops to see the track sway, scary looking but Awesome!
I remember that. And the seats were hard, when I got off that ride I said, "They should have named it the Bone Rattler," because my back hurt from being bounced around. A very bumpy coaster.
3:01 when you forget to depump vertices
Aughhh wtf is that
3:01 looks like they forgot to use the smooth tool in planet coaster
That section has always made me wonder why it was designed that way.
😂😂😂😂😂👍🏽
What year did they redo that section (sans rmc)? Too bad
Nah looks like they hit autocomplete
@@SeanFlahartyI doubt that part was designed at all honestly lol
Man I miss the rattler lol... I remember it was so painful to ride but every second was worth it. On the helix, my buddy was riding to the right of me, and the whiplash was so bad (mind you I’m short) that it threw my head into his shoulder and I had busted my lip! Great ride though, came off feeling like you just fought the biggest battle of your life
3:01 wtf is that
I have wondering that since the day I recorded this video. :)
rcca not knowing what they were doing, that's what that is
3:01 track should NOT do that
It is odd. That's the reason I made it the thumbnail photo. Ha ha.
Sean Flaharty Ikr i have ridden some rough coasters like the grand national, big dipper, wild mouse (bpb) and the Ultimate at lightwater valley but after watching this it makes them look like a B&M
They may not have aged well but I thought the coasters you have ridden weren't al that bad. Then again, that was back in 2002. Rattler was MUCH rougher than those in my opinion.
Sean Flaharty i go on the Blackpool woodies every few weeks (grand national is my favourite in the UK) so that might be why i think its so rough but then again the pleasure beach's are much older
That's awesome! I would love to live close to that park. It's one of my favorites.
Wow 1998, I was a Junior in HS. Today I’m going to ride the New Iron Rattler 2.0. Thanks for sharing.
You are welcome. Thanks for watching. Iron Rattler is one of my favorite rides! Have fun.
That shaping is gorgeous for some odd reason
I skipped through the helix. I can't imagine what it was like having to sit through that during the ride.
I plan to use this for an Iron Rattler POV and will provide credit per usual.
Thank god for that trim @ 1:24, Imagine the forces on the helix without it
Gotta love 20th century video technology!
to think this was the tallest and fastest wooden coaster in the world at the time of its opening . wow
Yep, but then they modified it and removed its record breaking drop status not too long after it had opened.. I believe the height of the lift hill didn't change though.
i got to ride it in 92 when park opened. It was amazing!!
How painful did this coaster used to be. And that's one messed up coaster. Thank god they rmc it
I think it was more less thrilling than painful. Sure, it was pretty damn rough but the layout just didn't do a whole lot in regards to being a thrill machine.
Sean Flaharty and now it’s super thrilling but no pain😂 kinda miss the pain a little. Gave you that I feel like a bad ass feeling
The Rattler similar to Mean Streak was one of the most beautiful wooden coasters I have seen. Like Mean Streak it really shined well at night with the lights illuminating it. Add a pink sunset and twilight with the views of the ride and cliff. I just wish it was as fun to ride as it was to view. I still remember how boring that helix was and my buddy actually started to doze off during that part of the ride. Unlike Mean Streak I didn’t ever find it painfully rough (Mean Streak on the other hand was truly spine rattling) it was just flat or boring. Even older POVs from Rattlers inaugural year with the full drop seem incredibly tame.
I appreciate Six Flags Fiesta Texas for trying to improve it as much as possible before Iron Rattler came to be. Also RIP to Sean's camera that day.
Lol. That camera was built well. I used that thing for many years before switching to a MiniDV cam.
What was that mid course? It literally crawled after it
That was always a very confusing part of the ride.
Reminds me of Titan at Six Flags Over Texas’ break run
Josh Kirkham 🤣🤣🤣 old school wind power!
Another very tall woodie trimmed to death in later years
3:00 what the heck is that transition. Lol
It's like RCCA had people who didn't even specialize in construction and got 40s and 50s in physics and engineering classes. I'm not engineer, but track looks like it should not bend that way. If you need that many trim brakes, something is wrong.
That was a ride to truly rival The Beast. You can tell that's just what they wanted to do.
I was told the main reason the park wanted this ride was to compete with The Texas Giant at Six Flags Over Texas. I guess it all depends on who you talk to. Ha ha.
@@SeanFlaharty I actually miss the original Texas Giant. My last visit to Six Flags Over Texas was in June of 2008 (I have since moved to Michigan). This was Giant’s penultimate year as a full wooden coaster. It was a weekday and the park wasn’t very busy. There was nobody at the station upon my return and the operator offered a re-ride which I took. It definitely was pretty rough and bumpy, but not a painful rough. Shockwave was also similarly dead and I got not 2, but 3 re-rides. Though on the second ride I requested to switch to the backseat.
The ride was so rough that the camera lagged like crazy
I enjoyed this one back in 2011. Nearly fell asleep in the helix though.
That helix was one of the most confusing parts of any coaster. I know thematically why they put it in, but it left many riders confused.
Not the thumbnail lookin like something outta RCT ☠️☠️
Thank you, RMC
10/10 track profiling
Hey Sean! Would it be ok if I used this POV in an upcoming video I am making on The Rattler? I'll provide your channel full credit as always! Thanks
There is a new problematic rollercoasters video coming boys!
Absolutely. You can use anything I have. You do it the right way by providing credit. Thanks for that.
@@SeanFlaharty thanks so much Sean!!
It was a rough ride but I miss this version of The Rattler. Iron Ratler is awesome though.
A roller coaster so rough it almost broke the fucking camera lmfao
Looks smooth
Thank God for Alan Schilke!
This is awesome.
The thumbnail makes the track look like it’s rippling which on this coaster is comedy gold
When I went to upload this video, I original had a thumbnail of the first drop. As soon as I watched the video again, I decided to change it to that strange section of track. I rode another Pierce designed coaster in Japan in 2005. White Canyon. It also had a small section of strange track on its course. They removed the coaster several years ago.
that's just too odd for me, those trims slowed the train when it was already going slow enough, almost too slow for comfort
It was too slow for comfort. Ha ha.
those trims made it worse... those odd movements in the track, im wondering if those are supposed to be there at this point
Good question. I remember my first ride on it. It was right before the park closed for the night and was completely dark. We got to that helix and got silent, wondering what had just happened.
+Sean Flaharty those random bumps in the track have to hurt the ride too, looks like another former masterpiece by the folks at RCCOA
3:01 looking up ‘original rattler layout sfft’ you will find this indeed WAS on the layout, it is a downward ‘s’ bend and is used to better put the cars on the track better. :)
While I hadn't heard that explanation, I do think it was there to "enhance" the layout more than it was a there to secure the trains. It was just a very odd section indeed.
2:38 compare that skline to today.
Way to GROW FT!!!
Okay first thing is at some point in time the first drop went all the way to the bottom right? I know they changed the first drop but I rode this when I was very young (just tall enough to ride it) and I swear it went down to the very bottom. Between the ride changing and my little kid perspective changing I will never know if I rode with the full drop or not lol.... I think I did though.
That helix really did suck, in middle school I remember bonking head with the guy next to me cause it whips you around so much lol. The being said I really need to go again to ride the iron rattle that looks super fun.
You are correct in that the first drop used to be much greater. I never got to ride that version. Iron Rattler is a far superior ride in my opinion.
I found a video with a on ride of the old drop, I think the first time I rode it had the big drop... Because I remember it going down to the water. However I think the drop was changed (according to coasterpedia) 2 or 3 times before the last version so it might of been the first time they changed it... I'll never know... Wood is just not as fun for people anymore, they want a smooth fast ride... I can't wait to try the iron rattler someday I'll go again.
mow123 i love the word bonking!
@@mow123 I rode "THE ORIGINAL" rattler when it first opened as well. with the deeper drop. Sadly, it only lives in my memory because it was not recorded (no phones, and didn't have a camcorder)
oh and it broke my mom's C 5, 6, 7 vertebrae on that 2nd drop right before the tunnel :/
My spine hurts just from watching this. I caught my self flinching seeing the rough parts coming
It certainly was a chore to ride, back then.
This ride is the reason for my back problems today. I felt the jolt on that hard turn and never been the same since 8yrs old. I’m 35 now
Can I use this in a video I’m making called Roller Coasters With Bad Banking I’ll
Give credit
Yes.
Some park should make a duleung coaster one side wood the other steel. Call it TRIbrid steel vs wood
I truly don't understand all the comments hating on the Rattler. It was such a blast to ride, it's the only roller coaster I've ever ridden that didn't treat people like delicate fragile china. The new coasters are fun, but so tame in comparison. I'm riding for a thrill, not to be gently wafted around in my comfy seat. The Rattler used to give us that thrill.
I am not sure when you rode it but this ride was very, very low when I recorded this video. I would have liked to take an exciting ride.
I could almost swear that I hear the sound of crickets chirping during the long drawn out helix. I'm sure it's the track but that's hilarious.
Lol. I never noticed that until you mentioned it. The sound is the steel wheels literally sliding laterally across the steel track, with very little grease. It does sound like an army of crickets.
Im just here to see if the track moves 15 feet side to side in this.
I could't feel it swaying while riding but I know it did.
its so slow it looks like the worst wooden coaster ever.
I found this to be one of the worst I have ridden. However, Iron Rattler has become one of my favorites now.
Go try New Texas Giant at Six flags OverTexas
Slow Section Mid Brake: The Ride
This is when they modified and shorten the fist drop. The drop went further down into the cliff at one time. I believe this was the tallest and steepest at one time.
Darryl Ellis no
Looks like if they took one more foot off the drop, the car would stall. What a terrible looking experience. My neck hurts just from watching.
“Please don’t lean on the gay rails… uh guard rails please.
It's that old damn
Man after that shallow climb up. It’s like the ride design was intended for toddlers
It was rough and tame. The park had another idea at one point that would have required the removal of the slow helix. Luckily they decided on RMC to make it into a steel coaster. It's incredible now.
@@SeanFlahartyyes the new Texas giant is totally awesome
@@SeanFlahartyyes the iron rattler is awesome
That "Helix" was seriously bad. The train crawled through it. Then that sudden braking to a stop... smh. Iron Rattler looks so much better!
That helix was embarrassing bad. I remember one of the higher-ups at the park telling me that at one point they had planned on removing the helix and replacing it with a small out-and-back section. Instead, they went with RMC and created one of my favorite coasters.
Hey, Sean Flaharty! Do you have a video of Joker's Revenge?
I have a short off-ride that lasts just a couple seconds but I don't have it uploaded as it's too short. I wish I would have recorded more of the ride when I was there.
Do you have a video of the Funhouse Queue Line?
3:01 who did that?? Who thought it was a good idea to do that?? There was no single reason you had to do it, the designers chose to make this ride suck
There was another wooden coaster, made by the same engineers, in Japan which also had one of those "WTF" moments like what is seen in this video. It was called White Canyon.
I guarantee it was rougher than wildcat at the pre lift lol
Exactly. The ride was incredibly quirky and rough.
yikes, and this was at the front seat and it still looked painful
It was a terrible ride. Iron Rattler is easily one of my favorites now.
3:01 WTF is happening with that track
I don't believe anyone will ever know. :)
3:01 what the freaking potato in a pie is that?
This ride has changed so much since then. The drop is about 1,000 times bigger. 😂
The original drop of this coaster almost matches the stats of the current version. After a year or so, the original drop on this was raised a lot. I never got to ride it with the original drop.
Sean Flaharty I really want to ride the iron rattler but I’m scared to. I’m a wimp 😂 I will ride the Batman, Superman, scream, and pretty much anything as long as it isn’t the iron rattler.
IR is an incredible ride. If you like the other rides you mentioned, I think you could ride IR with no problem.
roughness the ride
Would I be able to use this POV in a video? I’ll give full credit!!!
Yes, thank you for asking.
That helix looks like the longest thing ever
It was too long in my opinion. The ride wasn't the greatest but the helix really made for a awkward middle.
That profiling tho
3:01 That should not exist. It must be very rough and painful.
That section wasn't too painful. Just confusing. There is a slightly similar section on a now-defunct wooden coaster in Japan (White Canyon), made by the same manufacture.
the thumbnail says it all
Rattler could have been a great ride if it was manufactured by any company OTHER than RCCA
Not sure why my reply didn't show up, but let's try again. Ha ha. I honestly can't think of a single wooden coaster manufacture that would have successfully been able to design and build a massive wooden coaster like this where it didn't becoming ultra-rough. Now, had the ride been announced in today's world, things would definitely be different. Back then, no one was successful in getting a massive wooden coaster to operate well.
@@SeanFlaharty Yea I agree but RCCA even with smaller scale coasters is known for it being rough and painful
this thing looks like its gonna collapse at any minuet
+X The Smasher It swayed more than any coaster I have seen. There is another video on UA-cam that shows the swaying.
Sean Flaharty ive seen it, its insane.
Good POV of the original Rattler!
I rode it before they rmc treated it, it wasn’t as slow as this showed it to be but it was rough, still better than the iron rattler, I’d rather wait two hours for 3 1/2 minutes than 3 hours and 1 minute 20 seconds.
While I can’t share the same opinion as you, I know the original still had a few fans. I have ridden this a few different times and it was always just as slow, if not slower than when this video was recorded. I really tried to find the excitement with the coaster but it never happened. I much prefer Iron Rattler. Smoother, faster and I find it to be a lot more fun.
3:01 WTF
This thing looks worse than Timberwolf at WoF...because timber wolf is decent now. Anyway so glad RMC fixed this ride
It really was worse than Timberwolf in my opinion, although the last time I rode TW, it was among the worse I had ridden. I heard about the improvements so at least they are trying to keep it ridable. RMC did a fantastic job with Rattler.
That looked painful!
+ozzyray Indeed it was!
When my mom ridden it she had to wait for ever to ride rides because of how rough this ride was
That helix is disgusting
Indeed it was. It was always a very strange element that didn't make any sense, anytime I rode this.
Looks painful- like Mean Streak from 3 years ago painful
Its was indeed painful at times and even less eventful in my option. The new RMC version is incredible!
Mean streak was boring and slow when I rode it in 2014. I remember being super disappointed that a ride so big and intimidating looking could have so little thrills. I don’t remember any airtime or roughness.
Damn that was lame didn't even look like it went that fast
It really didn't. When it first opened, the first drop was much longer and faster. They raised the first drop and the ride lost some serious speed. The helix has always been slow. Iron Ratler is a much, much better ride in my opinion and one of my favorites.
Holy crap this looks awful 😬
Indeed, it was.
this looks worse then SOB
+Nicky DeGirolamo I am a sasha banks Thank You Daniel Bryan bayley paige guy I thought it was. I never got to ride Rattler with it's original first drop. I only got to ride it with whatever version is in this video. I have heard from a few that loved the ride but I can't say I am one of them.
this video showed how rough it was you could barley hold the camera
It was a brutal ride indeed!
This coaster looks terrible
It wasn't a real joy to ride, in my opinion. I am really glad the ride is now Iron Rattler. It's a far superior ride.
This is so incredibly slow, it’s looks horrible. RMC turned this from what looks like a terrible ride too and incredible ride, they’re amazing.
I skipped through the helix. I can't imagine what it was like having to sit through that during the ride.
I plan to use this for an Iron Rattler POV and will provide credit per usual.
Yep. The helix was the most confusing part of the ride for sure.
