Original Rattler Wooden Roller Coaster POV Six Flags Fiesta Texas

- POV Video of the ORIGINAL Rattler roller coaster at Six Flags Fiesta Texas recorded in 1999! (Note - I mean original as in the one that was there BEFORE Iron Rattler. Yes, I realize there were many different incarnations of the original ride, but in my mind there was Rattler and there was Iron Rattler. Sorry if you're not happy with that justification, you can simply just not watch this video, or unsubscribe if it bothers you THAT much!)

I see why they call it the Rattler
And it freaking hurts the sides of your arms and you feel like YOUR IN A WASHING MACHINE
My teenage home park. I rode this so much that opening year. We'd all get off and look like we just took a literal beating, staggering and grabbing st our necks and ribcages lol
Me too
The slowness in some portions comes from the fact that the first drop on this coaster was originally 166 feet, but then got shortened to 124 feet, which reduced the top speed from 73 to 65 mph. This was the tallest and fastest wooden coaster in the world when it first opened, but went through several modifications over the years.
I do believe the original height of the first drop was 180 feet tall and the 166 feet is actually the length of the lift hill. When the coaster first was built it would drop down the quarry wall and be parallel with the water for Gully Washer.
I believe that's also why they removed the many hills I the triple helix. Not enough speed....
AntonioH I can't comment on the amount of hills in the helix, however I can say that back when it opened it would rip through the tunnel and had plenty of speed through the helix. One of the original modifications after the coast opened were the addition of harder brakes before the tunnel and right after the Curve. They were there to begin with however they did not brake as hard before.
+Keosilver Silver Oh, I know, just saying that if they had originally changed or made any modifications to to the original decent....then, it would most likely have been to border-line not making it over the smaller hills(more people, more mass of course), thus causing another modification....
All that metal rubbing together makes it sound like a NYC subway.
Underground trains in London
Looks like an old school coaster, the squeaking sound is horrible tho
Was that grandma in the fast lane passing this train?
I remember riding this when it opened in 1992! It was scary and I remember my neck hurting for a while afterwards.
Same!
lucky
Mine still hurts 17 years later.
It was awesome!!!
Really miss this version. Iron Rattler is cool sure but it's really short and the banked curves in place of the helix still seems weird to me.
sure but at least it doesnt go an average of 5 mph like this did
God, that neverending helix, talk about terminal boredom.
A squeaky one at that
I absolutely LOVE the fact that wooden roller coasters are in the middle of a renaissance courtesy of the Rocky Mountain Construction Co. and can only hope that the "new breed" of Woodie make it to the west coast sooner rather than later.
I'd say wooden roller coasters already were in a renaissance due to the Gravity Group and GCI.
And also I think most RMC coasters would be considered steel coasters by the general enthusiast population. They do look like pretty amazing rides though.
This was such an amazing ride back in 1993 when I visited, I rode it three times and thought it was just the best! It didn't make the squeaking noises here, the first drop was much scarier and the whole ride was considerably faster! :-)
This isn’t the original Rattler. You can tell that the drop off the lift hill is already modified from the original.
Yes it is
Hate to say it, I miss this bruising experience
I like the new rattler it's just too short
Why didn't they Make It Better Longer albeit RMCs are Fun They said Lighting Rod Is Short But i actually Liked The launch Better than Mavericks launch IDK???????
VelocityGrimZ that was part of the fun! Sorta like battle scars. When you got a shirt that said "I survived the rattler" it held some weight to it. I remember this ride being taller, but now that I've ridden the new one and watched this video again, that first drop is nothing now!
God Curtis Summers - who would have thought three times around a wedding cake was a good way to use up all that good speed. Thank god Alan Shilke came along and redid this. Now its first class!!!
it wasn't designed by Curtis Summers. It was designed by John Pierce and the RCCA
Oh my god the squeaking and screeching during the never ending helix sounds like fingers on a chalkboard.
I remember this ride in the 90's this video doesn't do it justice , it would rattle at the bottom like it was coming apart truly a thrill for it's time
I want to go on something more thrilling than Wooden Roller Coaster 1.
I loved that ride. Idc how much it hurt or how bad it looked.
That screeching, super long and slow Helix reminded me of japanese coasters...
Looks like the most boring coaster in history. The never-ending middle section looks like a kiddie ride. One good drop at the start followed by slow, squeaking, torture. zzzzzzzzzzz
Well, as I said above, this is the reprofiled version of The Rattler. Before the 'neutering', the ride's first drop originally went down to the bottom in a slightly twisting fashion and that is what made the ride what it is. Coming off the next hill the train used to go into the mid section helix at a much faster rate. The reprofile and braking just completely ruined the ride from what it was. Thankfully the remodeling of the ride to now have a steel track restored the original first drop, albeit it is much straighter than the original. Pacing is much faster because of the steel track and the removal of the boring triple helix in the middle. The downside is that the ride is much shorter than it used to be, but the upside it is faster and more interesting, restoring much of the thrill and fun that this ride initially was supposed to be.
+jukingeo find a vid of the original ride pls
truuue
watch?v=hLzwmpx7JCU
The video is only the first drop but as you can see it was much faster. Before it got re profiled it was the fastest wood in the world. I think I rode the fast version, but I was barely tall enough to ride it (as a kid) so it is hard to say.
i rode this in 93 when i was 14 years old there were no trims working only mid course break, in 98 i heard they installed
multiple trims on the ride overall the ride was still very rough, iron rattler is to short but is also super intense and glossy smooth
It looks and sounds like someone is riding along in the back, pushing a handbrake everytime they think it might go to fast. My ears are still ringing.
The track does look like fun, if it would just go a bit faster.
An 80 year old with a walker could probably walk faster than the train's speed during that wonky wavy helix.
That zig zag track pattern is awesome! I haven't seen that pattern on many coasters
Man you would love some wacky worms
Guess it was kinda of a guarantee RCM that anything they would do make this better. It's kind of like saying hey you think Coasterforce videos are good, wait till I show you this TPR video
This is my first wooden roller coaster
This ride really was neutered to death, wasn't it? I mean, this isn't even the original version. The original drop on this ride went almost all the way to the ground and had a roof over it. I believe there were a few other minor differences. I wonder how many different modifications this ride had before RMC fixed it...
The triple helix was a stupid idea, and doesn't look fun at all. Just loud, slow and boring. Glad RMC gave this the Iron Horse treatment. It's a much better ride as a result!
Well this would have been the fastest wood coaster in the world but modifications made it slower. When it first opened it would rip right through that helix
This looks ridiculously rough. And holy crap there's so many banked bunny hills right in the middle of the ride. Is it just me or is this a very unusual track design?
The first half of this ride appeared to be epic! But Iron Rattler was definitely a big improvement.
Yay, San Antonio.
There’s no Superman Krypton Coaster yet. That’s wild to see the park without it
Just because you CAN put in a triple helix doesn't mean you should.
JackSassyPants that’s RCCA’s logic
At least RCCA didn't fuck up the structural integrity of the coaster like with Son of Beast, and RMC was able to salvage it (seeing this, I'll say this is one of the few times I've seen a wooden coaster better off converted into an RMC than kept as is).
Ok, I have a question : what's wrong with the guys who make six flags's coasters?!
Are they crazy?!
Well, this manufacturer (Roller corporation of America or RCCA for short) had a reputation for making bad rides. Such as Son of Beast at kings island. This coaster wasn’t much different in reliability
Actually that is not the original Rattler. That is like a year or two after the very first year. The original first drop went all the way to the bottom of the cliffs like the Iron Rattler is now.
This ride helped inspire the designers of today. The people who call this pointless probably consider Motown and The Beatles pointless in regards to today's best "music".
That fucking helix looks so slow and boring O.o
Also it was surprisingly rough.
Here is the Original Rattler. Search You Tube for = Texas Rattler POV Before the Heavy Re-Profile
This isnt the original rattler. The first drop is the shortened version, and even before that the top of the lift hill was shortened from the original from what I hear.
They should rename this to 'The Banshee'.
AHHH! the screeching!.....
Where
Brandon Pang The whole ride. The loud annoying scrapping of the train wheels against the track.
Oh
Old school...
It was awesome
Yeah!
OUCH, MY EARS!
I wish this was original... this is after the heavy re profile they did and shortened the drop.
Sounded like it was gonna fall apart and half of the time looked like it was gonna get stuck lol
That roller coaster would break my neck
That is not the original version. The first drop used to go all the way down to the water
Last wooden coaster I ever rode. Felt something POP in my neck which I think was the start of my neck issues. Still ride metal though ~
This wasn’t the original. The original went to the bottom of the quarry on the first hill.
So badly designed. Iron Rattler looks so much smoother & faster & better looking!
KoasterKing 205 yup! RCCA was so bad at designing and building roller coasters
Sheesh! No wonder it got RMCed. That awful squealing noise.
0:31-1:26 What the hell even is this? I mean really, who thought that those tiny, banked bunny hills were going to give ANY semblance of airtime when you're going THAT freaking slow?
Based on another comnent above, it used to be a lot faster, but the shortening of the first drop and the trim brakes before the helix slowed it down a lot.
I wish I would have rode it. Sounds awesome.
It’s like a railroad with the squeaks on the turns
some of y’all are crazy if you miss this coaster! this is one of the worst rides in history. this one doesn’t even maintain its speed, yeah it’s old but i have seen coasters built before this and it maintains their speed. this one hurt and i can see why it was called rattler
Seems like this ride would hurt my ears more than it would hurt my body.
They should call it The Screecher!!!
I remember writing this so rough
Screech screech screech!
SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEECH
Remember riding this as a kid its used to be so rough my dad got a bleeding bruise
i think i almost went def because of the sound the track made when the coaster started to slow down.
Dude this is a old ride now it's the iron rattler
I'm pretty sure the kids went on this in the movie blank check.
Were they trying to make an airtime helix or something
This isn't the original..The first drop was modified.
I miss the helix
this isnt even the original this was after the reprofiling was done shortening the first drop which use to be massive. I rode this opening year and it was one of the best roller coasters ive been on. Rode it 5 years later and was one of the worst rides ever.
This isn’t the original Rattler!!!!!!!!!!..The 1st has already been modified….Try 1992 footage!!!
Good shit dangerous
This vid is 3 yrs older than me
From 1999 not when it was posted I was born on 2003
Sounds squeaky. Old school. ;)
You know that its like Six Flags Magic Mountain they get rid of an old wooden coaster Colossus into Twisted Colossus EXAMPLE: Old Rattler into Iron Rattler
***** why'd u call me dummy
Can you ride the friarie ride in Italy
Rattler was such a weird ride...
Why is it making a weird squeaking sound
literally what in blazes
San Antonio :D
Should have been named "The Squeaker".
I saw the gully washer
They should call it the screechier. lol
SOMEONE PUT SOME OIL ON THOSE WHEEL BEARINGS,
Whoever designed this probably had a stroke
one of the 301 viewers :3
I miss this piece of crap
This isn't the original. This is after if was modified to be lame after that dude had a heart attack.
Does any ride on this planet currently offer the excitement parallel that of the original Rattler?
I rode this incredibly boring ride in 1997. Way too much braking on a so trill ride. My review posted here is more exciting.
Sounds like it's going to break
Go ride the iron rattler
I honestly hated this ride, but wooden rollercoasters just dont do it for me in general
Which one is worst this or the old mean streak
Mean Streak was way better. Mean Streak was a rough ride, but it was a great ride when it opened. This one opened being boring, slow, and incredibly rough. This is not the original Rattler in this video, by the way. By the time this POV was recorded, the trains were replaced, the bottom of the first drop was raised greatly, the second drop (the double down) was totally reprofiled, sections of the helix were replaced, the MCBR was added, the drop after the MCBR was reprofiled, and a few turns at the end of the ride were remade. This ride spent its whole life being modified until RMC came into the picture. By the time the original Rattler closed, it was an incredibly rough ride that also had structural issues. Not only was it very rough, but it was ridiculously boring for how big it was and how much track it had. At least Mean Streak was built properly and had a good layout.
There was a women that died at this rollercoaster!
Looks like Collosos in Germany....
Designed in rct3
RCCA everybody...
my god that damn fricking noise of that screaling is driving me up the wall, they need too inspect the cart/coaster. for that or the roller coaster will not be rideable :/
That is not a good noise... This thing desperately needed RMC love.
need greas
