Vehicle skins have always just been skins, you just paid for them with gold orders. Unique vehicles are event rewards, (Edit) actually this is better than i thought, now not everyone who buys the battlepass will be skipping straight to the tiger 2
@ you used to get a “separate” vehicle with the skin on it. So you didnt have to unlock the vehicle in question, however with the merge it caused a bit of imbalance because you can equip one squad with the tech tree vehicle and another legacy squad with the gold order vehicle. Not the biggest issue ever but im glad i wont be facing people cycling super pershings and tiger 2 (h)s.
The PPSH-41 was not a low cost gun, it was very much still a product of the pre-WW2 mindset of SMGs (high quality manufacture, wooden stock, drum magazine). The PPS-42/43 was the low cost SMG of the Soviets (as every country in WW2 I can think of eventually made a similar weapon), stamped sheet-metal is just way cheaper and faster to produce on a large scale. The PPSH staying in production over its "replacement" was due to the logistics of refiting factories during a war, it didn't make sense to switch production to a new model of gun when you had just tooled up for the old one and you needed guns NOW. The PPS never outproduced the PPSH due to this, it was however produced in places that either didn't have the necessary machinery and/or expertise to produce the more complicated PPSH, or for places where the nessesary materials would be harder to supply (such as factories close to the front), an example being Leningrad which produced weapons such as the PPS even whilst under siege.
PPD-40 is the real pre-WW2 mindset of SMG as the intention of the PPSh is to be a cheaper PPD. PPSh was already a low cost SMG for USSR with over 6 million made the entire war compared to around 2 million PPS with one of the bottlenecks of PPSh being the drum magazine but PPS didn't replace PPSh as they were both used unlike PPD being replaced by PPSh. PPSh and PPS were only replaced by the AK years after the war.
I have seen how ridiculously complex the Thompson is and how it underwent plenty of simplifications but still not as cheap as PPSh did. PPD is much more complex and expensive than PPSh as the latter is already considered crude especially on machining and not finely milled and machined like PPD. Still PPS being the full on 2nd gen while PPSh is more like 1.5 with some transition. SMGs fell out of favor again after WWII in the USSR since they had AK as their 'SMG' while the main rifle being the SKS until the AKM came as they knew AK can do better than SKS while SMGs only came back in the 70s with KGB and MVD requested a much lighter weapon in 9mm for missions where AKS-74U is not an option then later on 3rd gen SMG based on AKS-74U but 9mm with Vityaz.
@ Yes, the PPD was even more complicated, and...? Just because a weapon was developed during the war does not nessesarily mean it is entierly up to date with the times (out of all the praise for the PPSH, do note that "forward thinking" isn't among them). The PPSH is a very good example of a 1st generation SMG for all of the reasons I have stated, a simplified one yes, which almost all countries also ended up making but still 1st generation (the M1A1 Thompson or the Lanchester are still 1st generation, though similarly simplified). I did mention that the PPSH outproduced the PPS, and the reasons why. The AK was not a SMG and is a entierly different class of weapon, though I grant that Soviet post-war infantry doctrine intended it to be a replacement for their SMGs (which didn’t really work out, vehicle crews still needed SMGs for defence). I’d recommend you look up the generations of SMGs to learn more, the PPSH is clearly a product of the pre-WW2, or a 1st generation SMG, just because the Soviets replaced a even more complicated gun does not mean it didn’t follow similar design principles.

Hey Quadro. Do you think Enlisted currently has a map rotation issue? For example, after the merge, when I play Allies BR V, I frequently get maps like Le Bre, Airfield, and Gare de Saint-Lo repeatedly. Occasionally, the game puts me in D-Day or Ver-Sur-Mer, and even more rarely, Ruins of Vaux. The Belgium maps are even scarcer. The same issue happens when I play as Soviets. Skin instead of a whole upgraded vehicle is awful, means you don't get to skip over the super-expensive vehicle upgrades. Mostly to avoid the situation where the devs were making 4 new weapons each season, but people were only unlocking 1 or two This new system encourages more engagement, allows players to get all of the content, and causes them slightly less work in the end, which they can use to make other content.

I just started playing Enlisted a couple of days of ago and subscribed your channel as soon as I found it. Lots of good content, although it does seem like a lot has changed recently. I had one question that I'm trying to figure out - is a radio operator worth bringing in a squad? I'm just unlocking BR 2. I can tell already that an Engineer is a must take once you unlock it, but I'm not sure when having to choose between an AT gunner and a radio operator, especially at lower levels.
Artillery wins games, take a radio operator, any soldier can kill a tank with an explosion pack or TNT anyway, much more to be gained with the radio operator, at BR2 anti-tank rifle aren’t that effective anyway, not like a panzerfaust 100 which you can only get at BRIV.
I think that the reason for skins intead of vehucles is because those are the top tanks in the game and they now once you reach the squad for use it the grind is over, you dont need more and that is what they are trying to avoid. I personally did the same with the panthers and tiger from previus BPs and focus in others lines like rifles and machinguns.
