  • This video shows my dads new (to him) Toyota Yaris. He bought the car from a private seller who had only driven 20,000 miles in the prior six years, but had virtually neglected any maintenance during this period. We therefore carried out some regular servicing and maintenance in this video.
    Servicing completed during the video:
-Gave the car a more detail-focussed wash
-Changed the front brake pads and discs
-Fitted a new front windscreen wiper blade
-Changed a battery in one of the keys
-Carried out an oil service (oil and oil filter
    -Changed the air filter

I got the 2015 ICON model with the older style alloys, TIPS - only use 5w30 in summer months & 0w20 the rest of the time or just stick with 0w20 all the time, the wiper blade is a faff to take off 😂 Your using good oil i'll give you that! 🙂 I use 5w20 Magnatec & i swear by it as it'll quieten down the engine noise...trust me.i've been using it for years on my MK1 Yaris. Another tip... pour in some new oil in the filler hole & let that drain out the bottom to rinse/wash away the old dirty oil sitting on bottom of the pan & do check your PCV! It's right there, can't miss it & only takes 5 secs to remove WORTH DOING!

Super helpful comment, thank you very much. I'll refer back to this when we do the next service on the car! For mine and others benefit, could you explain how you check the PCV please/what you're looking for when doing this?

      Why 0w20?

@@stevetop5970 I believe it’s recommended by the manufacturer, same for a Toyota Aygo I just did too.

@@RyanBengal1 so you think its superior to 5w30?

Why did you change the disc. There is a minimum thickness of disc thickness

Didn’t want to put new pads on worn discs.

Hey ryan, do you mean the car was running for 6 years without service OR that the car was parked for 6 years?

The car has been running for six years but has only covered a few thousand miles in that time. The oil that came out looked OK so not sure if it has had servicing in the meantime with no history to show for it.
