You know what makes efficient power shafts? LODGES!
Yes, they transfer power. Yes, through the roofs too. And much less planks needed.
Just build a stack of lodges and put batteries on top. Still needs a staircase, but leaves some extra options to engineer a multi-purpose skyscraper

1.) Build floodgates along all the directions the main water source can flow, that way you can fully control where it goes and when.
*Bad Tide coming?* Direct it off the map and block everything else.
*Wet Season?* Way off the map is blocked so all the water flows through the map.
*Drought coming?* Block everything for the last day or so and store water like a reservoir.
2.) Continue the "Poo Water Deflection Dam" to direct it off the map as well.
3.) Look to making a ground level dam and reservoir for most of the map, greenifying as much as possible.

For power skyscrapers I use a 3x3, where nothing goes through the center until the very top, with a double helix (one for power and another on top for path).
You may expand later but you can put 4 batteries on top and still have near top access. It's click and mentally efficient once you know what you're doing, only the top is tricky but way better than deleting the path for power each time.

I would definitely go experimental. If you don't, you'll have to build a spiral power tower to get to your batteries, which is _super_ annoying. Plus you can get sluice gates so you don't have to micromanage your flood gates.
"...that would use twice as much stuff, Pythagoras and all that..."
Doesn't apply. You can only build in four directions, not effectively infinite directions. You're trying to make a path that stuff (water) can traverse. It, therefore, takes exactly the same number of blocks no matter how you do it. If you want to convince yourself of this, pull up any map. Plan out a path in dams or whatever (pause the game, you don't want to build these) that goes five down and five over. This takes 9 blocks (five for the down, four for across). If you do it diagonally, it _also_ takes 9 blocks. Pythagoras doesn't help you here because you are building in blocks, not actual straight lines.

I would maybe consider researching explosives, then you could modify the GigaDam, reservoir whatever, so water would reach farmlands better even when water is lower. Also, explosives could be used to make a gap in the poocano, to direct badwater, without building levees all around.
Another suggestion, for speeding up mega or giga projects, is to build a couple of storage piles next to your project site. They can be small, but set to "obtain", and haulers will move the materials closer. When the haulers are doing all the hauling, builders can focus on the building.

      * I have a really good idea for your next skyscraper! 😮💡
It Might be a Bit overengineered, but the my idea of a double- spiral staircase is actually very Useful and saves a lot of recources and building.
The Double Spiral staircase is able to do multitasking!
1.st spiral staircase: gearshifts from the top to the bottom (Power supply to the bottom).💪⚡️💪
      2nd Staircase:
Scaffolding for the beavers used for building/maintanance. Its very Space efficient (3x3 blocks area) and it should be very easy to free Trapped Beavers (during the constitution), because you just have to build in the middle hole a Brunch of 1 block high Platform (+paths on top of them) and every Story can be accessed very easily by your beavers. 🦫🚧🔨

Might I suggest watching Biffa's episode of Teamberborn where he builds his Power Towers? They're more compact and they have the power shafts built under the scaffolding. I've got 5 Power Towers in my build of this map. They work great!

With Update 6 you can build a "preasure tank". Try to do that on the poocano source and see if with a pipe upwards and then vertical with power weels work for you :) Could work very well.

@RCE I do believe the Shamming wheel mod still works... doesn't it? This should be always included on the modpacks for your series... with all those pesky architects going undercover, blending with the upstanding beavers.

To save on resources and space, you build 2 extra medium water tanks and delete all the small ones. Then you should be able to turn the large water pump off during droughts to keep the land green

  • @IuriSantos

You can start building the horizontal shafts on the other side of the tower where you don't have a path going. You'll only need to build the elevation shafts and the final curves afterwards.

In my game, I have 4 batteries set on a single triple over a cliff and that is enough for powering most of my buildings for a week. I added 3 windmills to help off set the usage during the drought so now I don't need to worry at all.

Gravity batteries have a limit of storage which is equivalent to twice the height of the highest platform, so you essentially are architecting that tower

I had a max height tower for grav batteries in my last colony and I built it up all the way with stairs only. Then I built the batteries and after that I removed the stairs one after another and slowly replaced the walkway with the power shafts cuz the beavers wouldn't have to get up again anyway^^

  • @SmokeandSpirit

If you want the power shaft to follow the path back down that's going to include a mad amount of build micromanaging and 1-3 pieces planned at a time then built. You'd easily take 5 episodes to accomplish that. Just switch to experimental. You basically made it a necessity now.

Me too. Standart tactic: Built a nice and easy tower of nothing but housing and maybe a roof etrrace every now and then (with an overhang so i can build housing on top of the roof terrace). I also like to add my hospital right next to it which is essentially the same as the housing block just with med beds. Then only add a nice storehouse for food and a large tank for water right next to the tower to shorten walking distances.

When staying on this version: extend the power tower by another 4 platforms, and use the extension to bring power up.

What I find interesting is that beavers in real life are primarily nocturnal so I think it would be cool if this game makes a faction that works mainly during the night with the day and night cycle switched, or making it so that in each faction there are beavers that are nocturnal or they adding a night shift which can affect wellness score with like loud noise if some work areas that are active are near homes

  • @jamoecw
    @jamoecw 2 місяці тому

There is a height limit, and I built my battery at the limit. The power takes a very long distance to get the power down to the ground, as you can only go one step down at a time and is the reason it isn't built yet in my game. deleting the path and building on your way back down will take a lot of extra logs due to the extra distance, but it does save on space.

So Matt... Because the Timberborner world is composed of squares and things can't move diagonally across the squares, Pythagoras doesn't apply. It's "manhattan geometry" (also known as taxi-cab geometry). You can check. It is exactly the same number of squares to go on each leg of the triangle as it is to squiggle along the diagonal.
