- Okuma Rockaway HD Reviewed on Location w/Cedros 14000 for Casting Ability!
It's been a week since i got my 12ft Rockaway HD by Okuma. This is the most powerful Rockaway Surf Rod ever released! Rated at 6-16oz. 70/30 split for loading-up. UFR "Ultimate Flex Reinforcement". 24/30 ton low resin carbon blank. Deep pressed Sea Guides with zirconium inserts. Textured shrink wrap handle. 6-models to choose from ranging from 9-12ft.
I added the NEW Cedros Carbon 14000 Spinner with 65lb Soft Steel Eminent Braid to complete the package. This reel is 15% lighter than the all aluminum Blue Azores Reel of the same size. Also both has 44lb max drag. My final touch was "white" light reflective 3M tape for identification & night usage. I also added a Bell Buddy by Fishing Solutions
During this field review i'll experiment with different casting weights. The rod is stiff but still flexible enough to load-up those lead bombs. Though i never caught anything this day i've casted enough rigs to know the "feel" is good. The distribution of weight along the rod felt well distributed on the load points when i went up to 10oz. I didn't see the need to cast heavier leads as i was getting great distances with what i brought.
The only strike this day was a smashing take-down on my 13'3" HCS Surf Rod that John Bretza & I worked on for over 2yrs. That rod came crashing down using crab filled bait bags by Big Vic's. I'll try to get out more but the surf & weather aren't "predictable" at the moment.

Need a cool fishing buddy like you.
Thanks 👍
just picked up one of these poles for plugging it feels great
The 91/2?
yeah
Bro you making me jealous!! Lol
You would REALLY like this rod! Besides the HCS Surf series there's nothing that i know of coming out for awhile.
Great information. I'd like to see the rod action, it reads moderate fast. Can you show us live action of a bite or a simulated bite? Thanks!
I never do a "simulated" bite. When the weather gets better & i'm feeling that i can go out as i'm nursing a pulled hamstring i plan on using this new rod again.
@@ScubaChris let me know how it goes. Hope you feel better soon bud. Thanks for the reply.
Do you think this 12' rod of yours could cast 120 yards with 5-6oz that you said are the sweet spot for the rod or close to it? With the reel that you used or a long casting reel? Thanks for the upload, I'm looking to buy me a big surf rod and this might be the rod for me!
What will you be targeting? I just dug out a few of these out of storage so i could put on some new reels. They work well with the Cedros 10k/14k Spinners. Thinking of using my new Surf 8K Spinners w/fresh line on them. Distance casters. Thinking of using 6/7oz with 65lb braid w/a mono top shot. Not sure if i want to OOMPH it to 120yd, but 90/100yd np. Too many considerations putting heavy lead to that kind of power into my swings nowadays. Property, cars, other anglers to accidently wrapping the line around a guide on the cast to pulling a muscle. I'm not young & dumb anymore. lol
Where can i get this okuma rockaway hd rod?
Looks like it hans't entered indonesian fishing market yet_
🙏
It recently sold out on Tackle Direct, but they're waiting for new arrivals.
Ok_
Thanks for information @@ScubaChris
Is this the heavy
Yes, it is. Up to 16oz lure rating.
How’s the rod holding up. I’ve heard some of those models has a tendency for the tip to snap off.
This HD model series was just released last month.
@@ScubaChris when I say models I mean the rockaway in general
@@urmailingalen Any rod tip can snap if the user doesn't take care of it. Like trying to cast with the drag set to tight to the line getting wrapped around the tip. I have quite a few Rocks & Nesikas and no problems.
@@ScubaChris I have a question have you ever changed out your drag washers to carbontex washers? I was wondering is it safe to use Corrosionx grease on the washers instead of Cals grease?
@@urmailingalen I changed mine on all my Newells. Mostly i use Cals Universal Reel Grease.
Did u buy your rod at a local store or online cause I need to get this rod but can’t find it online if u got in online can You tell me where thanks
Depends where you live. Always Okuma & Tackle Direct online.
@@lumberchicken007 It's in local Hawaii stores since last month. Right now because of California law the state is on mandatory lock-down. Since Okuma USA is in Oxnard, CA there's no factory activity like distribution.
Brother, do they make them in a conventional style?🤙🤙
Not that I know of.
@@ScubaChris thanks brother 🙏
