No scope, no cammo clothing, nothing that the modern companies try to tell us is essential for a successful hunt.
Just back to the basic and age old principles of hunting.
    Skill, patience and respect. Wonderful.
    Thanks for taking us along.
    Ps, loved the coffee break.

      Absolutely.
I have several rifles for hunting here in the UK.
      All old school weapons.
My favourite is an old Stevens single shot in .22lr with a Vernier tang rear sight.
My dad originally got hold of it in WW2 from a black market trader so he could supply rabbits to the trader.
The black market trader got it from a Canadian seaman in Liverpool docks.
It's legally registered and was passed down to me a few years ago.
This rifle is stupidly accurate, but only with subsonic ammo.

I remember when I got my first deer. I felt terrible. My father put a hand on my shoulder and told me "A real hunter feels bad for killing something. If you don't, you're just a killer." Carry that with me to this day.

When outdoors, i simply boil water in a pour pot hanging by a bail handle, dump in coffee grounds, and boil for 12-14 mins. Then i quench the boil with a cup of cold water and wait 5 mins for the coffee to settle before enjoying.
Your grandfather's coffee set is a treasure of memories. Enjoy them as you pass new memories to your dear little ones.

I remember camp coffee out of dads blue stoneware enamelware coffee pot, wood fire, sun just coming up. Ground still covered with dew, listening to the woods wake up. Best coffee ever.
40 years later, I wish I still had that coffee pot.

I enjoy many things about you videos as I have been with you channels for many years now… the thing I enjoy most is your being “tuned” to your surroundings without all the technology hype. I will admit that I have a lot of “modern” hunting and shooting equipment… after hunting for 53 years… I guess that just happens… but this past season I used my .54 caliber flintlock I built by hand and my hunting pouch… nothing else but water and some food… then took a cow elk at 56 yards. I follow your practice of respecting the animal and thought about you hunting in the woods. Thank you for what you do.

I’m a middle school principal and former history teacher. When the 8th grade history class is learning about the civil war I will arrange a field trip to my parents property to demonstrate my 1861 Springfield rifle musket and allow them to load and shoot under supervision. I’ve got a Henry golden boy in 22lr to demonstrate the effectiveness of the 1860 Henry though it would be cool to have an 1860 Henry. Though they are a bit expensive.

Another top quality video. Thanks. As I’ve gotten older I keep simplifying things it seems. I so enjoy doing my reloading with an Ideal tool similar to the one you use here. The process has become as gratifying as tying my own flies once was. I’ve given up my obsession with, what now strikes me as harassing trout and salmon and I’ve given up killing things as much as possible. I leave the fish and the game for you younger guys to experience and enjoy as I did at one time. I do still like roaming wild places with a gun in my hands though even though I have no intention of shooting anything. It reminds me of my youth. And seeing you out with this Henry so captures that old feeling and reminds me of many great times afield. Keep up the great “work”!

My grandfather’s Henry rifle was the first rifle I ever fired. When I was a young boy the first game I ever took was a rabbit with that rifle… the .44 HRF has long since run out and the rifle has become a simple show piece. my uncle still has that rifle and someday it will pass to my oldest son and my younger son will receive mine, which is a Henry Repeating Arms co. In .45 Colt… at least he will be able to fire it even though it’s not an actual original you can still purchase ammo for it and I do have an Ideal loading tool for .45C. The Henry rifle will always hold a very special place in my heart.
Thanks for sharing another fantastic video and for the cartridge boxes and forming kit that I received from you a few years ago… they have been well used and enjoyed.

What an awesome hunting simulator. That would be very cool to have. The closest I get to that is playing wildlife camera videos on UA-cam and dry-firing at my TV.

Great video. Your reverent approach to hunting mirrors my own, but I've never heard of the three twigs... will use that the next time I'm afield.

The traditions are important, but it is much more important what you actually feel. I am 100% sure that you've been a good man without the branches as well. What ever we do to stop, think and feel is ok in my opinion.

Beautifully made video, and great shot! I always get excited when I see that you’ve posted. I’m going out tomorrow with my modern Henry in .357 mag. I can’t wait to get a more historic model of rifle to use.
Keep your powder dry and good luck!

That is a good rifle! I think it is more important how you hunt, than what you use for hunting. Have a good time in the woods!

@@capandball Well said, and thank you. I am very very happy with my rifle, but something with good historic connections would also make my hunts more enjoyable for me. I’ll still enjoy myself today in the woods though🤣
