The 2018 Milwaukee Brewers were one win away from their first World Series appearance in 36 years. Their team was fantastic and fun...but they seem to have already fallen out of memory...

As a brewer fan, thank you for this video. September of 2018 was the most fun i have ever had watching baseball, along with 2011. From clinching a playoff berth against the cardinals to winning game 163 against the cubs, it was magical. I miss when we had guys that could hit consistently. People don't make youtube documentaries like this about the brewers often so thank you.
That 2017 team could also have a video in the future. A team with a bunch of no names with 2/3 of them out of the league a half decade that nearly made the playoffs.

I was in the stands for Game 1 and Game 6 of that NLCS. I really thought it was gonna be the year. Losing that 13 inning game was the nail in the coffin...it ate up our bullpen, which was the most valuable tool in our toolbox.

As a Cubs fan, 2018 Lorenzo Cain still gives me nightmares. If there was runners on you simply were not getting him out. Felt like every time we played the Brewers he would hit a go ahead single than make a highlight reel catch the next inning. Him and Yelich back to back was cancerous.

Same bro. Chatwood and Darvish were terrible or injured, our bullpen was injuries and we had to be desperate at the deadline. If we played better then we could have won.

Yelich had a stretch of 154 games from the latter half of 2018 going through early 2019 where he'd put up offensive numbers that were almost completely equal to Babe Ruth's 1921 season, arguably the GREATEST hitting season of all time.

I knew the Cubs would no longer be a viable threat to win a title after that moment and would likely return to the lean years of the past. It was tough to take. My father and I watched Baseball forever together. He's from Illionois and was a true Cubbie fan despite being from the South side. In 2007, when Braun and Fielder shined, we watched the Brewers, and every year after that. And nothing was more important to us than that 2018 season. I watched the Brewers-Cubs game at school and was ecstatic to see them advance and tell my father as he was on the road truck driving. We watched them crush the Rockies full well, knowing they would. Then the day came for Game 7. My father and I banded together in our one bedroom apartment watching it on his phone, looking at Yelich dominate that early home run lead. Then, when Hader didn't come back for the 7th inning, we knew it was over. We both felt it before it started. I don't really know what it was, but it hurt us. Because to this day, my father and I haven't watched a single Baseball game since that Game 7. We knew that's as close as Milwaukee would get, and it hurt to see it end the way it did.

I would argue the best team forgotten about was the 2005 White Sox. Led the divison everyday that season, and went 11-1 in the playoffs winning their first title in 88 years. Certainly most people forget about them because really what was the storyline behind them.

the 2010's was a wild decade to be a Brewer fan, because I only became a fan in 2005 when Ben Sheets was carving offenses, it finally felt like hope because the Brewers, similar to the Pirates, could never bring in talent let alone keep them, they always went to the Yankees or some other big market to win for them. Even in some of our down years in the 2010's, there were some fun highlights and players, like Chris Carter in 2016, it wasn't the best year but Carter tied the home run league lead with Arenado with 41, and o.m.g.... Carter's swing was VIOLENT! He was SO entertaining, yet he's considered the emptiest HR champ ever, and that hurts, cuz it's true...
When I look at this team on Pro Baseball Reference, idk HOW this team was so good honestly, compare this team with the 2011 team.
The 2011 team had a great pitching cast despite it being off on the wrong foot with ZACK GRIENKE getting injured before the season on a pickup basketball game, him and Chris Narveson would each start 28 games as a result, the only other spot starter we had was Marco Estrada (who'd be decent with the Blue Jays), which means only 6 guys started games at pitcher for them. We had the Axe man John Axford as the closer and K-Rod as a setup man, YES A SETUP MAN WHEN THAT DUDE IS LIKE ONE OF THE BEST CLOSERS EVER! Every starter except Estrada had 10+ wins! The thing is, the 2011 team was even MORE consistent, and had the same amount of wins basically as the 2018 team. 2B and CF were the only positions to basically not have full time starters with more than 130 games. The 2011 team had Jon Lucroy play 136, Prince Fielder played ALL 162 at 1B, Yuniesky Betancourt at SS for 152 games, Casey McGehee at 3B for 155, Braun at LF for 150, and Corey Hart at RF for 130. Our relief players (not pitchers) were Jerry Hairston Jr., Craig Counsell as a 40 year old player (now managing Cubs...), Mark Kotsay, and Carlos Gomez.shared CF with Nyjer Morgan (TONY PLUSH!). Rickie Weeks was supposed to be 2B but he only played 118 games indicating injury, it's been 13 years i don't recall what happened that year with him. Basically, the 2011 team had consistent starters offense, defense, and pitching all season long with very few interruptions.
2018 on the other hand!? We had so many platoon guys like Hernan Perez, none of our catchers played over 100 games, we made a TON of post trade deadline trades using the waiver wire loophole. Travis Shaw played the most games at 152. Funniest thing is that Thames was supposed to be our 1B that year, but he got hurt in spring training, and then Aguilar broke out so it's like, what do we do with Thames!? Then there's the pitching staff you mentioned... Only Jhoulys Chacin started the full season (min 32 starts) with 35 starts! Chase Anderson started 30. the 2018 Brewers started 11 different pitchers that year! If that were any other year, this team would've folded like a piece of a paper with that inconsistency of a rotation. Chacin was also the only pitcher to get 10+ wins with 15!
So I'm glad you're pointing this team out, because that team should not have been good, they were the definition of over achievers! the 2011 team had studs and superstars, guaranteed good players at almost all positions. the 2018 team? Was a completely different team by September! They were a different team by the All-Star Break! When 1 player went down, another came up!

I remember thinking that the 2018 Brewers reminded me a lot of the 2014 Royals but better. Both having electric 3 man wrecking crews in the bullpen a starting rotation held together with shoe strings and bubblegum. Brewers get the nod for having a way better offense. And you can't go wrong with having LoCain in CF

I remember telling my dad going into that series that the brewers best chance of beating the dodgers was to end it quick and make sure that it doesnt draw out into a deep series. When their bullpen heavy approach would put them at a disadvantage of having a overtaxed bullpen.

Even as a Reds fan, Darth Hader was one of my favorite pitchers to watch. What's disappointing to see in this video though is how Christian Yelich swelled after he went to the Brewers and teamed up with Braun. Yelich really didn't really need to do steroids, but it is incredible how he could do just a _little_ and could be widely considered the best hitter in the league. That alone says a lot about his natural talent.

i blame the fans. Was at game 6 and 7. game 6 was electrifying. Everyone was loud and going crazy. Game 7 as soon as we got behind the fans died. When the brewers needed us our fans shut down and gave up. no one was cheering or trying to get the crowd going. My step dad almost got kicked out because he was screaming and cheering trying to get the fans loud. The all just sat with disgust.
