For those who are interested a translation - rather an explanation. This is a Christmas or rather a winter solstice related folksong. In Latvian language Ziemassvētki literally means celebration of winter- but I will refer to this as Christmas. The utilized refrains or choruses (typical for Christmas songs) in this song are “Totari Totari” (typically found in folk songs of Vidzeme - a historical region of Latvia) and “Kaladū Kaladū” (typical for the historical region - Latgale). There is no particular meaning of these refrains. Ok the words (meaning) goes approximately like this: Come together youthful maidens Totari Totari To pour the fortune this evening Totari Totari A grandfather gave me Totari Totari A hand full of trouser buttons Totari Totari Yesterday I took a white goat Kaladū Kaladū Around the green pine grove Kaladū Kaladū Today a white snow was snowing Kaladū Kaladū Like white goldeneyes (a type of diving duck - a bird simply put) Kaladū Kaladū Oh the prolific Christmas Kaladū Kaladū Have gone down in the valley (typically the relief in Latvia has small hills and some depressions - in this context a depression would better characterized the word “Lejiņa” rather than valley) Kaladū Kaladū Let’s run old an young Kaladū Kaladū Let’s pull the celebration back on the hilltop Kaladū Kaladū Rise sun early in the morning Kaladū Kaladū Polish my body (Brighten my stature - you get the point) Kaladū Kaladū Rise sun early in the morning Kaladū Kaladū Polish my body Kaladū Kaladū When setting in the evening Kaladū Kaladū Erode (wear out) my condemner Kaladū Kaladū When setting in the evening Kaladū Kaladū Erode (wear out) my condemner Kaladū Kaladū I sowed barley - it wasn’t growing Totari Totari Hops didn’t blossom (Hop=Humulus plant, used in beer brewing) Totari Totari This year will stay for me Totari Totari With hate between me and other people Totari Totari Yesterday I took a white goat Kaladū Kaladū Around the green pine grove Kaladū Kaladū Today a white snow was snowing Kaladū Kaladū Like white goldeneyes Kaladū Kaladū Rise sun early in the morning Kaladū Kaladū Polish my body Kaladū Kaladū Rise sun early in the morning Kaladū Kaladū Polish my body Kaladū Kaladū When setting in the evening Kaladū Kaladū Erode (wear out) my condemner Kaladū Kaladū When setting in the evening Kaladū Kaladū Erode (wear out) my condemner Kaladū Kaladū I put white and wore white Totari Totari White is my body Totari Totari Hands of my own, legs of my own Totari Totari A wise advice of my own Totari Totari
I love how they´re not afraid to use headphones and neon lights together with natural costumes and background. It looks perfect and that´s how I imagine good future, living by the natural laws with comfort of technologies. Good work Tautumeitas, you are perfect :)
At first I was mildly dissapointed by the headphones, as they broke my immersion. Your comment showed me a different view though, and now I can appreciate them as well. Thanks :)
Love your take on it. My thoughts were similar…not so much in terms of technology, but rather it made me consider…the young following in the footsteps of the ones who came before, bringing their unique touches along the way. Thank you for sharing your perspective.
@@MebesMarcus I can try and translate it but lot of words will not make sense to you if I don’t explain their meaning in folklore and Latvian history. Maybe here are some Latvians who could translate and explain it better then me? But i will try to translate the song and look into it. This song is a modern interpretation of ritual to battle the darkness that comes in winter.
A Lithuanian girl passing by... this is just splendid. The music, the energy, the costumes and the beautiful women. Glad to see that the pagan light is still alive and is so well portrayed in this modern production 🧝✨👏
I am Lithuanian too and already for a year I am listening them and I can't fall out of love.. They are wonderful! I wish we would have such songs in Lithuania ❤️

This is brilliant. It's not just that Tautumeitas get it - they are it .....and I love them for that. The powerful and mysterious energy of the arc of the feminine from the ancient world to now. Beautiful. Truly beautiful. Thanks
One thing I'm learning is that what people say about someone or something should not be your base of judgment. Instead get to know and experience it and let your judgement come from that. Paganism has forever been taught to us to be demonic but just look at how peaceful this is...well done ! Thank you for belssing my soulTautumeitas😍
As a Pagan and Priestess of the Goddess and Saint Bridget I have to say that 95% of Pagans love nature of every description and never work with demons. Pagans are mostly gentle, kind and loving people who only want to do good in this world. If you want to find that work with demons you need look no further than big business and the people who do things to benefit them like governments. There is enough food and medicine for every living soul on this planet without tearing down natural habitats and creating mono cultures - that way only lies disasters like famine, climate change, horrific storms and wrecked lives - Pagans haven’t created all that. We don’t carry guns, we don’t sell arms we are not demons!
I was taught Pagan philosophy is " do what you want but harm noone, " Pre christian beliefs hold Herbs. chants, worship, medicines, methods , still used today. Demons are not what Paganism is about. It is about Nature . Many still use spells and magic though they are churchgoers. It is not forbidden but tolerated.
They are great, the video is great, and the interpretation and creativity is something only Tautumeitas could produce. Another great video interpretation to add to the growing collection from this wonderful group. Christmas has come early for us all...
You know it's Christmas holiday season in Latvia when you see people dragging a burning log around their yard and singing Kaladu, kaladu, even though no-one really seems to know what it means. But it is good magic. Christmas is the darkest time of the year = winter solstice. Our ancestors believed that it was important to do all they could to help sun to return and singing songs and that particular word was one way to do it.
@@ligastrazda9723 about every culture across europe had some kind of winter ritual. The Norse would cut a huge tree and set it on fire in their village squares during winter. Heck even here in the states we cut a tree down and drag it inside and decorate it even though it really has nothing to do with christianity but we put decorations on it and either a star or angel on its top so we think it's for christ😉
@@ligastrazda9723 I've looked up kaladu. All I could find was caladu was Portuguese that means silence. Could make sense in a way. It is quiet in the winter most things hibernate and with the exception of the wind and the stillness of falling snow it is quiet.
@Kolnu Andrius did some research on it. Tried typing the title in but it came back spider man. So I typed in the individual words. Found an article on it. The title is called polish my body. Its basically a recap from 2020. It's more less considered a song of healing. At least someone is trying something. Still a good song and I like how they were dressed up in it too.

This is so beautiful there are not enough words to describe it. I confess I would like the modern drums replaced by traditonional ones and the metal-like part for a more folk version but as a whole the melody is majestic and the costumes, hairdwear and lights are simply magical! Liels paldies/loba di'na for uploading this wonder here, much respect and love from Brazil.

šim video big like
