Pure Photography with the Nikon Z30

Hey guys today I head out to test out the #Nikon Z30 as a stills camera, this is the first time I have ever used a camera with no EVF so was very curious to see how the experience is! join me as I head around Beamish open air museum testing out the Z30, I plan on following this video up with my conclusion on using it as a stills camera.

Thanks, it’s a great little camera but not sure it suits stills photography especially in high contrast scenes, you just couldn’t see the back of the screen.

Barry, how does the Z30 screen hold up in bright sunny outdoors when it comes to composition? I know smartphone screens have improved tremendously when it comes to usability outdoors due to the high screen brightness nits. BTW, like this POV format.

Thanks man, yeah it’s not something I can recommend for serious stills photography as it is not a great experience, don’t get me wrong it is more than capable just in those high contrast scenes it’s difficult to see the screen the only way around it is to flip out the screen and have it at an angle, I feel that the z50 is better with the tilt screen as you only need to tilt it slightly to see the screen. Indoors and low contrast scenes it s perfect, I plan on following this video up with my thoughts in shooting stills with this camera.

thank you for doing a photography-only video of the Nikon z30. i just purchased it for my trip to the Philippines. i wanted a smaller camera thats portable. can you do a future video using hi speed sync with the z 30? id love to see the results. you should have included the settings with your shots. did you use any presets or color grading in these shots?? they are great shots!

You captured some great photos. I'm thinking of purchasing the z30 but was curious what metering setting you have this on? Did it choose the proper exposure most times or were you full manual?

Thanks,when I comes to metering on my mirrorless cameras I really only ever rely on the screen, rarely ever changing the metering mode if honest, on my DSLRs I would use them for the situation I was shooting in, I loved highlight weighted metering helping me not to blow out the highlights but because I can see the exposure change on the screen now I find it’s not really necessary.

Good image quality is no different to the Z50 which has been my favourite camera to date.

Is this the 35 f/1.8 S or one of the old 35mm (DX/FX) for the F mount + FTZ adapter ?

No I used the 35mm 1.8 s although the results would be very similar.
