  • Hello everybody, and welcome to the third and final part of unwinterizing the machines, and getting them back washing for the summer! This video, we focused on the last two machines remaining, that being the 1969 Maytag A106, and the 1969 Westinghouse. I won't spoil anything that happens in the video, but we successfully got all the antifreeze flushed out of them, and they are ready to go back to washing laundry! I hope you all enjoy!

I always thought the Westinghouse top loaders were very aesthetically pleasing machines to look at. Miss the one we used to have years ago.

If you feel so inclined Drummerboy, I’d love to see the inner workings of the Westinghouse in action some time, if you ever feel so inclined.

I’ve thought about doing something like that for a while, just haven’t gotten around to filming it just yet

I was really surprised by the strength in the Westinghouse right from the beginning you could see that it was doing super and a very powerful pump on it as well.

It’s definitely a strong machine. I’ve been very impressed with its performance over the last year.

I was going to mention that the slow agitation might be lack of lubrication of the agitator shaft due to thick old oil. My Maytag has this issue but for now I'm keeping it lubed by laying it on it's front for a couple hours every few months to allow oil to flow up the tube and agitator shaft. I see you are on top of this from your comment about tearing this machine down to clean and change the transmission oil. May I ask what oil you are going to use?

I was able to get my hands on some “factory” transmission oil for it. Eugene from Lorraine Furniture sells his new production transmission oil that’s almost an identical replacement, for a reasonable price compared to a bottle of NOS oil. I’ll be sure to show it in a video I make of rebuilding the transmission on it.

13:02 tensioner under the motor needs rebuilding.

in this case, it’s unfortunately not the motor carriage. The transmission oil in these old Maytags is known for becoming almost a gel after many years, which gums up all the internals of the transmission. It is currently in the process of being torn apart and rebuilt with fresh transmission oil.
