- So I just bought an Xbox 360 HD DVD Player add-on about a week ago (from eBay), and now I'm gonna see what happens when you put a foreign disc in it! Let me know what you think will happen, and let me know what else you want me to try!

I remember Dragon's Lair on HD DVD was promoted as an "HD DVD exclusive game" for the X360. Even though it's technically not an X360 game.
Ur 360 should also be able to play a regular DVD bc one of my dad's friends used to own a 360 and it worked with a regular DVD

What would happen if you connect it to Xbox One, PC or Sony Playstation???
The 360 disc froze because the xbox 360 knew what it was seeing, so it interrupted the dvd splash, but as the drive attempted to read it, my guess is the hypervisor didn't like it and locked up, eventually giving up and kicking back to the dash

You do know that ps4 and Xbox one disc are just data disc . You don’t actually play from the disc. It plays from the hard drive . If you already installed it on ps4. A scratch is not going to affect it . It just uses the disc for proof of sale so on .
Blu Ray uses a blue laser so it won't know what to do with a PS3, PS4 game or Bluray disc. Every other disc format (probably including HDDVD) use the classic red laser.

how come a Blu-ray can't play Blu-Ray discs??
hd-dvd uses the same blu laser to achieve the "high-definition" quality. its just hd-dvd is made in a different way and was inferior to bluray since it was trying to mimick the dvd-like format. ultimately it held less space (15gb on hd-dvd and 25gb on bluray).
HD DVD uses a 405nm laser just like Blu-ray.
@@soan06 the Blu Ray Laser must have broken, I had that on a Blu Ray drive once.

My gosh, its 2019 and my family still doesn't have anything that can play Blu Ray because we've never thought we'd need one lol. As long as they keep making DVDS I don't think we'll get a Blu Ray player. If only the Wii u had one built-in.....

@@linktotwilight yes but lets be real here,whos only console is a wii u? ps3 was on discount at pawn shops for about 50 bucks at that time,so i mean it didnt matter that much,not to mention,in 2012 when the wii u came out,bluray players were cheap as hell 2nd hand

That damn things pisses me off! I wasted $200+ to get that HD DVD drive when they were out & then Microsoft decided to kill it off & discounted them to $15.00!!! 🤬 I was so freaking mad, because I was told "to bad, so sad, you're just SOL". However for being a USB 2.0 Add-on drive it actually performed extremely well! I watch the movie "300" on it & it was awesome! Played flawlessly & the quality was gorgeous! Had a 50" 1080p Plasma at the time, which was "state of the art" 😂.

The weird thing? If you hook up the drive to a pc the pc 8s the only way to open it. The eject button doesnt work, a least when a disc is playing

HD dvd wad made by Toshiba and Bluray is primarily made by Sony. Sony worked with Philips and Pioneer, but the blue laser in blue ray comes from Nichia. Since Sony worked on bluray they could implement it directly to the ps3 console.
Microsoft didn't work with Toshiba so they didn't have the HD dvd tech ready to it get in the XBOX 360 console, which is why you needed an add on accessory to watch hd movies on XBOX 360

Along with making an HD-DVD add-on, Microsoft could have also made an Xbox 360 Blu-ray Player add-on which also comes with a High Speed HDMI Cable to connect the Xbox 360 console to an HDTV (only for Xbox 360 Consoles that have an HDMI port).

I looked up what type of laser Is in HD DVD players and it is blue
Should play all HDDVD's since HDDVD was region free. One pro that HDDVD had over Blu Ray.
The hd dvd reader use a red laser, so the box it's red, the blu ray disc Reader use a blue laser, so the box it's blue
You should try a mini DVD.
Both ps2 and PC games is mixed media disc so that means you have to system player to look at files

I doubt it, as the Xbox 360s security is reslly tough to crack and requires alot of skill in order for you to even try that.

The player knew there was a disc in the drive, it didn't know how to read it, because
1) it's a blu-ray, so it's already incompatible
2) Nintendo Discs have a barcode which is only readable by Nintendo's drives.
